Ten-year-old Female says... "Can't You See I'm In The Shower... " - 08/31/10 06:31 PM
OK... what's the problem here ?  Can't a girl get any privacy ?
Oh... I feel so "violated."
Here's the story, folks.  My Mom... Karen Anne... and I are moving tomorrow.  As some of you know, our two bedroom apartment was flooded last January 10, 2010.  All that water came in through the ceiling at 3:30AM when the pipes from the fire-sprinkler system froze and burst.
Water everywhere.
So... over the last seven months... (yeah... that long !) we have been living in a ONE bedroom apartment since then.  Actually we have been squeezed into... a one bedroom apartment since then.  … (55 comments)

Want More Comments ? Using the Active Rain "Groups Feature" Will Really Help ! - 08/30/10 11:42 PM
NOTE:  If you want more comments on your posts... this post will help bunches !
Every once in awhile I will read a post that I really enjoy.  Then, I often immediately go to the writer's "profile" page to read about this newly-discovered Active Rainer I have found.  Once on their Profile Page, I usually click on their "blog"... and look at their other posts... and read some of them.   And... if I like what I see... I will "subscribe" to their blog.
There have been times when I have been very surprised when I have found that some of … (102 comments)

Why Do Blogs Die ? - 08/29/10 07:24 PM
There were several posts written over the past two days about the death of blogging... and whether it was real, or not.  While I was reading those posts and comments, one of the things that popped into my head was this:
There are many, many real estate agents who, in the past... when they "heard" all about blogs for the first time... "LOOKED" at other agent's blogs, and, in wanting to put together a great looking blog to launch, spent lots of time and money... with some of the excellent professional blogging consultants.

In the process, they sweated blood and … (104 comments)

To the Guys who Read Leslie Ebersole's post Wednesday... It's Ok. Karen Anne Comes to Your Rescue ! - 08/28/10 08:44 AM
A few days ago, one of our Active Rainers, Leslie Ebersole, wrote a blog post titled Time to Pull On Our Big Girl Panties and Get To Work.
It got an excellent response here on Active Rain.  Leslie's post earned the coveted Gold Star, and her post was made a "Featured Post" as well.
One of the major points of her post was... as the title said... getting back to work and making things happen.
Unfortunately, the directions Leslie gave to help us DO that... only worked for about half of us.  Us Girls.  (Well... perhaps a few of the guys … (34 comments)

Negativity in The News: Why Do We Continue to Feed Our Own Paranoia ? - 08/25/10 11:27 PM
There it was yesterday, for all to see.  The headline on MarketWatch read something like "Home Sales Fall 27.2% in July."
It was there... wallpapered all over the screen.  Sensational headlines.  Of course, just about every other news or economics website on the internet had something similar.
It wasn't a surprise.  We all knew it was coming.  But still, there it was.  Ouch !
What makes us just crave all this negative news ?  What is there about someone yelling "the sky is falling" that just brings click after click, taking us to these websites when we see a link to … (30 comments)

What Do YOU Do... When Somebody "Gets Your Goat ?" - 08/24/10 09:17 PM
I was just answering some comments on one of my posts.  The post had lots of comments, and if you read my posts regularly, you know that I usually get some really great, introspective comments.
Well... one of my commentors was making his comment, and he said something about something that "gets his goat..." which he then explained.
All of which led ME to make the following self-question and observation:
-------------------
Serious question here.  When something "gets your goat..." What do you do ?  Do you go out and buy another goat, or do you just remain "goat'less ?"
I remember … (48 comments)

Serial "Copy and Paste" Commenting. What do They Get Out Of It ? - 08/22/10 06:55 PM
Every once in a while I run into something on Active Rain that "catches my fancy."  Sometimes this is a good thing, and some other times... not so much.
Here is one of those "not so much" times.
There are some Active Rainers out here in RainerLand who write posts... lots of them... and then have a few folks who appear in the comment section of their posts and make either this comment below...
"Thanks for sharing another interesting post with us today.  Best to you"
... or other such "numby" comments that really don't say anything.  Where is the dialogue, … (43 comments)

Here's Lookin' at You, Kid ! - 08/22/10 05:30 PM
Ahh... Miss  Mollie T is at it again.  My wonderful guard cat... simply worn out from working the entire night... keeping all the elephants away from our cozy home.
I am not sure if she is just close to dozing off to sleep, here, or if she is all drowsy from barely starting her waking-up process.
There is, of course, another possibility.  Mollie T wants me to "think" she is sleeping, but she is actually "watching" me.  You see... just before she went off to kitty-cat dream land... she came over to me to have a little "kitty cat chat."
It … (29 comments)

Minnesota Mom Shows Target She Rejects Inequality - 08/18/10 07:03 PM
Much has been in the news over the past month about the Target Corporation, and its donation of $150,000 to the political campaign of anti-gay Minnesotan... Tom Emmer... who is the Republican candidate for Governor of Minnesota.
Shown below is a video that really appeals to me.  I think that when some people see talk about all of these boycotting activities that can go on across the country in favor of equal rights, the first thing that many of them think of is some large LBGT organization like HRC... the Human Rights Campaign... and others... and perhaps from that mental image … (52 comments)

My Brother Would Have Been 63 Today... - 08/14/10 01:18 AM
Today is August 14, 2010.  Today would have been my brother's birthday.  He would have been 63 today.
Neil died much too early.  He was 56 when he passed away... as I said... much too early.
Neil had a pretty hard life.  Much of it was because of choices he made... and then the results of those choices brought him harm rather than good.  He abused his body... smoking and drinking... and at the end, he was not a pretty sight.
He wasn't very good with some of the people who loved him.  He at times chased them away... why I … (36 comments)

Ted Olson's Great Interview With Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace - 08/08/10 03:19 PM
It is very much a rarity that I do re-blogs.  In many cases, I think they are over-done.  Not this one !  The post below if from Stewart Penn, both an excellent Realtor, and an excellent blogger here on Active Rain.
If you can... and IF you believe in equal rights for all... of even if you don't... I very much recommend that you watch the entire video in the post below.  This man, Ted Olson, is confronted by Chris Wallace on Fox News.  Over and over again, Wallace tries to push Ted Olson into a corner.  Wallace is typical.  He … (29 comments)

Zydrunas is One Classy Guy ! - 08/01/10 02:44 PM
As someone born and raised in Cleveland, and also as someone who longs to return there, tears came to my eyes this morning when I found the ad below that was posted by one of my all-time favorite Cleveland Cavaliers, Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
Zydrunas Ilgauskas came to Cleveland from his native Lithuania fourteen years ago.  He was drafted by the Cavaliers... straight out of Lithuania.  Both of my grandparents on my father's side were born in Lithuania, so I have a special liking for Big Z, and feel a special bond with him.  Who knows, we could even be related !  <smile>
