Yes, this is the flag that was raised atop Mt Suribachi on the Japanese Island of Iwo Jima during World War II. The photo it shared with five Marines iand one Navy Corpsman is one of the most widely known of the War In The Pacific. Squirrels regularly hop aboard our $69.95 squirrel proof bird feeder to have a feast. It is easy to tell the "newbies". They have a real problem trying to get seed, but eventually they figure out a system that works. This young guy/gal joined the older residents about a week ago. He/she hops onto the feeder every 15 minutes, goes through a series of trial positions and eventually loses grip. This poor little deceased evergreen tree has been there so long it no longer qualifies as an "everbrown". It is on public property near the curb and I suspect it is a victim of budget cuts. The state has had to cut back on mowing median strips for the same reason. There are times I have been tempted to stop and pull the poor thing out, but I don't want to run afoul of the law. Covenant Presbyterian 2nd Annual Block Party Set For June 6, 2010 - 06/03/10 04:53 PM

Covenant Presbyterian moved to its' new location on Hoadly Rd three years ago. The block parties give the members an opportunity to meet our neighbors in an informal setting. As you can see in the photo above there certainly is enough ground to host a major block party. If last year's attendance is repeated it will be highly successful.

National Museum of the Marine Corps To Open New Galleries June 5, 2010 - 06/03/10 08:27 AM

On Saturday June 5, 2010 the National Museum of the Marine Corps will open three new galleries adding 12,000 square feet of interactive exhibits. It will include 250 new artifacts not displayed previously The founding of the Corps during the Revolutionary War era. Manassas VA Railway, Civil War Weekend Set For June 5, 2010 - 06/02/10 06:23 PM

Over the years the Old Town Manassas VA Railroad Festival has centered around the old brick depot which was built in 1914 and still serves commuter trains and Amtrak. However, next year marks the 150th anniversary of The First Battle of Manassas during the Civil War. The decision was made to incorporate activities pertaining to that since the rail line through Manassas was of importance to both North and South.

This rebuilt Chevy dump truck sits at the entrance to GDC on Dumfries Rd (Rt 234) in Prince William County west of I-95. GDC is a major trucking company with a huge fleet of behemoth dump trucks. The Brentsville Courthouse was built in 1822 and served as the Prince William County Courthouse until 1894 when the county moved the court system to Manassas where it remains today.
