Understand the importance of pronouncing a person's name correctly. For years I was associated with a firm where one of the owners regularly refered to me as Karen KRESKA. No matter how many times I corrected this person I was still Karen KRESKA - a complete lack of sensivity to my feelings. I wasn't the only agent subjected to the problem.

For those of you who have never lived in or visited a tobacco growing state this old barn has the slats seperated for a reason - the tobacco was harvested and hung to be air-cured. This old gal has long been retired from tobacco service and appears pretty much in danger of collapse if too much weight was put against her. Much of the land around it has been turned into 5 to 10 acre homesites with humongous homes. Since it was farmland there isn't one tree on the lots - the homes look like "Large House On The Prairie".

Prevalent in Northern Virginia, and to the south, is a roof staining problem called "black algae."  It looks like a dripping, running black stain, usually on a shaded roof, or on the side facing away from direct sunlight.  Incorrectly called mildew and fungus, the staining is an algae, typically Gloeocapsa magma.  I see it all the time.

The black algae is usually distinguished as a general stain. 
It runs down the roof as it is carried by water.

This past Sunday we "tested" the Manassas, VA Sunday afternoon concert and ice cream social at Harris Pavilion.
The St Thom Cats, a swing band from St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Manassas had the assembled crowd reacting enthusiastically as they played tunes of the "Big Band " era.
No concert of this type would be complete without playing Glenn Miller's classic arrangement of "In The Mood" at the conclusion.
As the video progresses there are frames of an elderly lady in a wheel chair "dancing" with another lady. There's no doubt she's a Glenn Miller fan.

Express Commuter Train 300 Starts Today 7/19/2010 In Woodbridge - 07/19/10 05:36 PM
Commuters have waited years for "Express Service" - it arrives today as Fredericksburg Line Train 300 is scheduled to pull out of the Fredericksburg station at 5:05 AM bypassing the Quantico and Rippon Landing stations and then departing Woodbridge at 5:44 AM.
According to the VRE announcement "This new train means that fewer people will be standing on later trains 302, 304 and 306........"
This new service was implemented just as VRE reduces the number of Amtrak trains that it will use - Amtrak trains 66, 67, 70 and 80 will no longer be available to commuters.

This is my very first attempt at photographing illuminations. I chose the Fourth of July for several reasons I wasn't sure about magnification I had no idea how many would burst at any given second I didn't have time to play with aperture and shutter settings so I set it to figure it out by itself while I tried to concentrate on placement Halfway through I decided to attempt adjusting shutter settings I fully recognize I am not a William Johnson, Myrl Jeffcoat or Debi Boucher, but I had fun trying this. The slide show is about 1.4 minutes.

Listening to music at the marina in Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge is a very relaxing way to spend a summer evening. The lawn overlooks the Potomac River and is between the two boat ramps giving you an endless view of nautical scenery as boats of all types come and go.
The bandstand is at water's edge. The performers have their backs to the river and face the assembled music lovers.
You can bring your own refreshments or there is a snack bar where light fare can be purchased. Be sure to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs

Founded in 1918 the men and women of the Quantico Marine Corps Band rank among the finest musicians in the region as well as the US Marine Corps.
The band is widely acclaimed and has received many awards. We are fortunate to have them based here in Prince William County, making it possible for us to enjoy their performances locally over the course of the summer months.

A few weeks ago Arthur and I visited the National Museum Of The Marine Corps to see the new exhibits that had just opened a week earlier.


Since I had never seen the newly built and non- denominational Semper Fidelis Chapel we decided to visit it as well. Its' design is symbolic of field chapels built by Marines during campaigns. My husband started to take my picture when a woman seated at the rear of the chapel asked if we wanted our photo together.
