Money Magazine recently ranked Prince William County 13th in the nation for job growth, a dramatic increase when compared to its' #17 ranking in 2000. Prince William County employment increased 40.1% during the 10 year period and 7% between 2009 and 2010 alone - "and the beat goes on" New commercial facilities and Prince William's AAA bond rating were two of the factors cited in the report However, it is also obvious that level of growth requires a transportation system that can move county residents quickly and smoothly. As you can see by the map at the right Prince William County is (14 comments)
commuting: Why Commuting To Work Works In Prince William County - 02/26/11 09:51 AM
As you can see by the map at the right Prince William County is not the closest community to the Pentagon and Washington, DC. When people relocate to Northern Virginia there are four items most of them consider when they make a decision as to where they will live. They are commuting, schools, shopping and recreation. When you live somewhere as congested as the National Capital Area commuting is measured in time, not miles. Commuting will be the focal point of this post.Since the majority of the major work centers are north of Prince William County commuters are faced with (20 comments)
commuting: Commuting Options From Lake Ridge, Woodbridge Throughout The National Capital Area - 01/15/11 01:42 PM
Several years ago I was working with a prospect that was relocating to the National Capital Area and had decided to purchase a home in Northern Virginia. His email to me prompted this post. "Karen, Several of the people in my new office suggested settling in Lake Ridge since the homes in Prince William County are less expensive than those in Alexandria or Fairfax County. As I look at a map it seems to be quite a distance from DC. Is it a difficult commute? Bruce" "Bruce, Lake Ridge is one of the ten largest subdivisions in the United States. You should (12 comments)
This is a copy of a 17th century map of the Belmont Bay area of Prince William County where a ferry crossed from Belmont Bay to Colchester (Harbor View) in Fairfax County. Potomac Path was the first north-south route through Virginia. It started in Boston and terminated in Williamsburg. After it crossed the Potomac from Fairfax County it went through Belmont Bay and south to Dumfries passing Rippon Lodge on its' way. The Mason family owned a 534 acre plantation named Belmont. Colonel Mason (great-grandfather of George Mason) started a ferry service in 1684 to facilitate the river crossing - it (12 comments)
commuting: Commuting Options For Lake Ridge, Woodbridge Prince William County VA - 07/30/10 06:19 PM
COMMUTING Express bus service to the Pentagon and Washington, DC is available within Lake Ridge and at the entrance to Lake Ridge in the VDOT Commuter Lot Carpools usually meet at the VDOT Commuter Lot at the entrance to Lake Ridge - see Omnimatch for more specific details Slugging (some erroneously call it hitching a ride which it is) is a result of the need to use HOV lanes on the I-95 as much as possible. Commuters form a line at a designated Slug Line Stop in Lake Ridge - the VDOT Commuter at the Lake Ridge entrance. For example, (0 comments)
commuting: Express Commuter Train 300 Starts Today 7/19/2010 In Woodbridge - 07/19/10 05:36 PM
Commuters have waited years for "Express Service" - it arrives today as Fredericksburg Line Train 300 is scheduled to pull out of the Fredericksburg station at 5:05 AM bypassing the Quantico and Rippon Landing stations and then departing Woodbridge at 5:44 AM. According to the VRE announcement "This new train means that fewer people will be standing on later trains 302, 304 and 306........" This new service was implemented just as VRE reduces the number of Amtrak trains that it will use - Amtrak trains 66, 67, 70 and 80 will no longer be available to commuters.

commuting: Bus - When You Want A Cure For C.B.C.S - 06/30/09 07:24 AM
aka Commuting Bumper Car Syndrome. When the alarm clock gives the "Get outa' bed signal" folks in Northern Virginia perform two critical acts. Grab a cup of coffee and Turn on the TV or radio to hear the traffic reports. It is an unusual morning when there isn't a fender bender somewhere along the I-95 corridor that may slow traffic and increase commuting time Correction - This is the morning ritual of those who drive to the Pentagon, Washington, DC or other National Capital Area work centers. On the other hand, people who ride to work on Potomac and Rappahannock (3 comments)
commuting: Bus - A Very Practical Commuting Option in Prince William County - 05/02/09 10:14 AM
There is commuter bus service avaialable in four Eastern Prince William County subdivisions. That obviously minimizes the amount of driving one has to do to get to the bus. People in subdivisions without bus service can drive to one of the numerous VDOT parking lots where the buses do stop to pick up commuters

commuting: Springfield, VA - It's A Commuting Hub - 03/15/09 03:42 PM
There are three primary concerns for people who relocate to the National Capital Area and decide to locate in Northern Virginia. The first concern is the availability and cost of housing. For those with children school quality is the second area of interest. It should also be an area of interest for people without children since school quality has an impact on resale value. Commuting is the third area that is considered by a relocatee Springfield is Commuting Central for many North Virginia residents especially if you live east of Burke in Fairfax County and south of the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County (0 comments)
commuting: The Ultimate Rush - Rush Hour In Northern Virginia - 10/07/08 04:44 PM
If you are a resident you know the term "rush hour" is an oxymoron. If you are relocating to the area you must have heard the National Capital Area is in the elite group of "Lousy Commuting Time Cities". Don't plan an escape across the Potomac - according to local traffic reports Suburban Maryland has a similar problem - no worse, but probably no better. However, there are options that make it more palatable if Prince William County is an area you are considering calling home.

commuting: Fleet's In - Welcome Aboard - 09/12/08 10:05 AM
The overwhelming majority of eastern Prince William County commuters travel north to The Pentagon, Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Arlington and Crystal City. An excellent fleet of buses is operated by PRTC (Potomac and Rappahannock Transit Commission). The bus routes operate in the communities of: LAKE RIDGE MONTCLAIR DALECITY The buses then stop at Commuter Parking Lots near or at I-95 interchanges and proceed to their northerly destinations. PRTC also operates service to the Franconia-Springfield Metro to provide service for commuters who will travel throughout the subway system and to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. At present there are no PRTC routes serving the US (0 comments)
