It's a little too early for this year's crop of "newbies" in the Canada Goose category. I snapped this picture last year at the Lake Ridge Park and Marina along the shores of our 2,100 acre Occoquan Reservoir. Actually, it isn't "our" reservoir - it belongs to the Fairfax County Water Authority. January is only 4 weeks away. Lake Ridge sits along the shore of the 2,100 acre Occoquan Reservoir. Assuming the road to the Occoquan Reservoir is open when the winter snows arrive I plan to go back and capture it again. Since I believe there are dogwoods in that area I'll obviously head back in the Spring and then in the Summer as well. Access to the reservoir is one of the many reasons to live in Lake Ridge

12964 Harbor Drive The library first opened in the lower level of Tacketts Mill in 1985. Those of us who are now and were residents then remember well the Lake Ridge mural that was painted by a local artist. However, there was a fire in 1986 that damaged the mural and also forced the closure of the library for one month. It moved to an upper level location temporarily and in 1987 returned to its' original location. However, it was again moved in 1995 to its' present location in the Fairfield Office Park. We live within 1/2 mile of a Lake Ridge elementary school, middle school and senior high school. There are school speed signs, crossing guards and traffic lights all over the place. It never ceases to amaze me when I see a car speeding through the school zone and the driver is a young mother with a youngster strapped in a car seat. Not too many years ago one of those boys would have been our son. We moved to Lake Ridge 26 years ago when he was only 5 years old. Like many Lake Ridge youngsters the Occoquan Reservoir has played a major role in his summer activties - Lake Ridge kids aren't bored in the summer. There has been fishing from both dock and boat, miniature golf, canoeing with his Boy Scout troop, BSA projects and kayaking to name a few. The Old Bridge Observer recently reported that four young ladies of the Ridgewood Barracuda swim team in Lake Ridge have been breaking long standing Prince William County Swim League records. They broke records in the 11-12 age category Medley and Freestyle relays. They are Yvonne Dinh, Allison Aceintuno, Emily Kelly and Victoria Coughlin. They were all introduced to swimming at a very early age. Their success can also be contributed to team spirit and excellent coaching.
