The National Capital Area is one of the most popular summertime vacation destinations in the country. Living as close as we do in Prince William County we are able to visit more frequently than tourists. However, most of us spend the majority of our leisure time seeking out recreational opportunities close to home. As a developing county our recreational venues are growing along with the residential and commercial community. The good news is that the growth also applies to facilities that we can enjoy when the winter weather makes outdoor recreation uncomfortable. It's winter, it's frosty and it's time for Winterfest, an annual event at Harris Pavilion in Historic Manassas. Each winter Harris Pavilion becomes an outdoor, but covered public ice skating rink. Winterfest is an opportunity for the community to enjoy live music, free s'mores, play Broomball (similar to hockey except the hockey sticks are brooms), take pictures and exercise on ice skates. There is no charge for Prince William County residents (Woodbridge, Lake Ridge, Nokesville, Manassas, Bristow, or Gainesville) to bring their trash to the landfill. There are fees for residents of Dumfries, Occoquan, Quantico and Haymarket.
