The Brentsville Union Church was completed in 1874 and is still available for worship services by local religious groups. The church is part of the 28 acre Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre. The church, 1822 courthouse, 1822 jail and 1922 one room schoolhouse are now owned and maintained by Prince William County.Architectural lines in rural America during the 18th and 19th century were clean, symmetrical and functional. The fourth courthouse to serve Prince William County was built in Brentsville in 1822. Over the years there have been two replacements. The interior has been faithfully restored and is open to the public. After it was closed it served as a girl's school and as county offices among other uses. The small brick building to the right is the jail that was built in 1822 as well. It is in disrepair and is presently being renovated. Rippon Lodge is thought to be the oldest colonial home in Prince William County. It certainly is among the oldest in Northern Virginia. It was built about 1747 by Richard Black-burn of Ripon, an old cathedral town in England. Colonel Thomas Blackburn, his son, was a contemporary and fought with George Washington. We took the above photo at a prior Connaughton Plaza performance The USN Commodores are regular performers in the Prince William County area as are all of the other military branch bands. We have enjoyed the Commodores at both Leesylvania State Park and Connaughton Plaza in Woodbridge. Their musical repertoire includes the big band sounds of the '30s and '40s as well as truly American jazz. Many top jazz personalities have performed with them.
