This store in the Glendale Plaza on Dale Boulevard has survived the arrival of The Home Depot and Lowe's even though they are less than 10 minutes away.
It is a hardware store of the type you remember before the hardware super stores came to town. When you go into Pitkins and say, "How do I -----?" there is someone there who will tell you and show you exactly what you need.

That is a question many newcomers ask. After all, news organizations around the country occasionally report impurities in local or regional water systems. Those of us in Eastern Prince William County have been drinking our water with confidence for many years.
The Occoquan, Woodbridge, Dumfries and Triangle Service Area of the Prince William County Service Authority draws 15 million gallons of water every day from the 1,500 acre Occoquan Reservoir. It undergoes treatment at Farfax Water's Frederick P. Griffith, Jr Water Treatment Plant. It is tested by the Service Authority at many points throughout the system.

THE OLD BRIDGE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA was founded in 1999. It is a musician-run group that is dedicated to providing concert for residents of Eastern Prince William County.
The orchestra performs regularly at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church on Valleywood Drive in Lake Ridge. The size of the orchestra and the sanctuary's acoustics work together beautifully. In its' short existence the OBCO has found a loyal following. The OBCO has chamber ensembles that regularly perform for community events, business gatherings, and private parties.

One of the highlights of this year for those of us who live along the Occoquan River is the upcoming Occoquan River Festival on July 27. The event commemorates the 400 year anniversary of John Smith's exploration of Chesapeake Bay and the watershed including the Occoquan River. His trip was made in a 23' shallop. The photo at the left is a working replica that is on display in the Maryland statehouse in Annapolis.

The Woodbridge area of Prince William County has numerous commuting options. One of the most efficient is bus service operated by the Potomac Rapid Transit Company.
The company provides 4 levels of srevice. Unless you are as familiar with Prince William County as I am (a 22 year resident) you may not be aware of the depth of service provided by this firm.

The majority of purchasers consider price, location, condition, features, transportation, shopping and recreation when deciding which home to purchase. Not all purchasers are concerned about school quality, but they should be!!!!
The fact that you do not have children or do not plan to have children is not a consideration. School quality is a major feature to many purchasers and will impact on one's ability to resell the home. It should be in the "mix" of items to be considered by ALL PURCHASERS.

Congress doesn't pass any laws that spend your money wastefully or limit your freedom. To the best of my knowledge it's been such a week.
This weekend in our nation's capital is very eventful and none of it required an Act of Congress.
Today marks the opening of the NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL a two week celebration of the gift from Japan in 1911. Yes, 1911 - the initial trees were given then, but were diseased and replaced in 1912 which is the date the public recognizes. One of the activities my husband and I enjoy is today's music by the Howard University Jazz Ensemble.
