School buses are always
YELLOW
School is now open in Prince William County and the rest of the country. You would think all drivers would realize and respect the purpose of school speed signs and school bus lights is to protect our children.
Quite frequently, offenders will be young mothers with small children in car seats. You have to wonder what their attitude will be about an offender when their child is in school.
The same is true of school buses. Their amber lights flash before they come to a full stop and turn red. It is not at … (4 comments)

videos: It Was A Lovely Day For A Picnic in Manassas, Virginia - 08/21/13 01:51 AM

But A Sad Day For America
The day was July 21, 1861 (150 years ago) in Manassas Junction, Virginia. The first shots of the Civil War were fired at Fort Sumter on 4/12/1861. However, the Battle of First Manassas (Bull Run) was the first major encounter between the Union and Confederate troops.
President Lincoln was concerned that the 32,000 Confederate troops at Manassas presented a threat to the nation's capital city. He ordered an assault by 29,000 Union troops. It was believed victory would be swift and the troops would then easily take Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy.
Many civilians packed … (49 comments)

videos: Would John Philip Sousa Approve Of This Version On The Fourth Of July? - 07/03/13 09:00 PM

John Philip Sousa wrote "Stars and Stripes Forever" on Christmas Day in 1896. It is one of his best known marches
I suspect there isn't a marching band in America that doesn't have the music in its' repertoire for patriotic holiday parades
The Commodores are the US Navy's premier jazz ensemble. We enjoyed their version of the Sousa classic at a Harris Pavilion concert in Manassas
Now we hope you enjoy the video we made of their adaptation just as we are certain John Philip Sousa would have enjoyed it.

videos: We May Have To Start Taking Reservations - 05/08/13 09:34 AM
Lake Ridge is a 4,400 acre subdivision.  The developers left 1,200 acres in heavily wooded common area.  Since Lake Ridge also borders a 2,100 acre reservoir it is home to many animals such as deer, rabbits, possum, chopmunks, foxes, black bear, turtles, snakes and, of course, squirrels.
As you must know all those trees attract a wide variety of birds.  Arthur and I go to great lengths to attract them to our part of the Lake Ridge forest.  It makes the view from my office just a little more exciting.  Our plan is working nicely.

videos: Commuting From Prince William County Isn't A Problem - It's A Solution - 02/16/13 02:46 AM

As you can see by the map at the right Prince William County is not the closest community to the Pentagon and Washington, DC. When people relocate to Northern Virginia there are four items most of them consider when they make a decision as to where they will live. They are commuting, schools, shopping and recreation.

When you live somewhere as congested as the National Capital Area commuting is measured in time, not miles. Commuting will be the focal point of this post.
Since the majority of the major work centers are north of Prince William County commuters are faced with … (20 comments)

videos: Lynnwood at Lake Ridge in Woodbridge VA Homes For Sale Updated Hourly - 02/10/13 10:14 PM

It is not unusual for people to think Lynnwood is a subdivision since the sign at the primary entrance on Old Bridge Road is different than the signs at the entry to the other sections of Lake Ridge. But Lynnwood really is different since it is the only section of Lake Ridge with homes sited on lots that are both heavily treed and approximately one half acre or larger.
There were three builders responsible for the majority of construction
Faitfield Calvert Long (our Lynnwood home was built by Long Homes)  The final few homes on Valleywood Drive were built by VanMetre.

videos: Lake Ridge - 38,000 People, 4,400 Wooded Acres And A 2,100 Acre Lake - 12/19/12 06:01 AM
Lake Ridge is large enough to be a small city anywhere in the country, but it is a subdivision in the eastern section of Prince William County, VA.
Since 1,200 acres of the hilly, heavily wooded site were watershed unable to be developed, Lake Ridge has an abundance of pristine woods in the scores of valleys in the community.

Lake Ridge borders the 2,100 acre  Occoquan Reservoir adding many more acres of natural habitat and recreational opportunities to the area, making it one of the most naturally attractive subdivisions in Northern Virginia.

videos: Lake Ridge Recreation Options Can Add To A Home's Resale Value - 11/12/12 07:37 PM

Recreation is one of the four most important items (the other three are commuting, schools and shopping) that are of interest to people when they consider a home purchase.  Young or old the vast majority of people seek some level of recreation outside the home environment

Recreational opportunities within the confines of the subdivision are what make Lake Ridge "the leader of the pack".
With 38,000 residents it as as large as many small cities.  The on site HOA, Lake Ridge Parks nd Recreation Association operates

videos: Lake Ridge - Neighborhood Shopping Is A Primary Amenity - 11/09/12 05:53 AM
Home buyer priorities and interests vary widely. However, the majority of buyers place importance on all or some of four items
Commuting Schools Shopping Recreation This post will highlight the reasons why shopping is a Lake Ridge asset.

The developers took into consideration that Lake Ridge is one of the ten largest subdivisions in the United States with 38,000 residents living in 7,000 residences on 4,400 acres, 1,200 acres of which are treed common ground. Access to other communities is restricted by the fact much of the boundary is located on the 2,100 acre Occoquan Reservoir.

videos: The Very Active 1810 Greenwich Presbyterian Church Nokesville, VA - 11/04/12 09:55 PM

The story of Greenwich Presbyterian in Nokesville began with the birth of Aminta Elizabeth Douglass who was born April 1, 1777 in Maryland.
In April, 1802 she married Gilbert Irland Moxley and moved to Greenwich, VA. Shortly after her arrival she began holding religious services in her home. They were so popular a small log building was built to serve as a place of worship. Records indicate that an 1810 meeting was the basis for the founding of Greenwich Presbyterian Church. By 1812 it was necessary to replace the original log cabin with a larger one.
As both the congregation and area grew … (13 comments)

Whether its' winter ice skating, farmer's market, chili cook offs, railway festivals, community service events, summertime dancing or concerts Harris Pavilion in Historic Manassas has earned a reputation as one of the leading family oriented public recreation facilities in Prince William County.Harris Pavilion may be a modern facility, but it specializes in old fashioned outdoor entertainment that was so prevalent in America's small towns in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
