Lake Ridge is a community of 7,000 homes on 4,400 wooded acres. The 38,000 residents take great pride in our flowering trees, vines and shrubs. When the cherry blossoms came out a few weeks ago I decided I would produce a short video of the many varieties that are a signature feature of Lake Ridge. It is short - only one minute long. I hope you enjoy watching it as mich as I did driving around Lake Ridge to film it.

While rummaging through my picture files to delete and organize them I came across this forgotten snapshot of an owl. During the blizzard of 2010 I snapped this photo while sitting at my in-home office watching the snow pile up. Suddenly, this owl flew into the trees within about 30' of my sliding glass door. As you can see, his/her feathers are puffed to help keep warm. I think those are snowflakes on his/her head. Living in Lake Ridge offers a way of life not possible in many newer subdivisions. The original terrain was gently rolling, heavily wooded hills. 1,200 acres of the original 4,400 acres were left untouched. The detached home sites range from 1/4 to 1/2 acre with many of the original trees still standing. Most of the town home and condominium sites are surrounded by wooded areas. In 1820 it only took 50 acres to establish Brentsville and make it the county seat of Prince William County. As residents moved farther west to work new farmland the existing county seat at Dumfries was too far east to serve them easily. Brentsville was a logical choice since it was centrally located along the major east/west road that went as far as the Shenandoah Valley. When the county seat moved to Manassas in 1893 Brentsville was able to maintain its' 19th century rural trappings. Recently, I overheard an agent say to a client, "The number of available short sale and foreclosed properties is declining in Prince William County."
