 THere are a record number of foreclosure homes for sale in Ma & RI.
Are these bank owned homes foreclosures a good buy?
 The short answer is - it depends.  As a real estate agent I have seen & sold many foreclosures. One was a terrific buy in decent shape & sold for about 100,000 less than a very similar home that was on the market. On the other hand I have gone into foreclosure homes that I had to run out of!  Many are in sad condition with mold & other issues.  Here is a good tip when looking to buy a home.
Always drive by the home first to check out the area before you schedule an appointment. You can take this a step further by going to Google Earth ( a free download) and checking out the area of homes from a bird's eye view. Recently I had home buyers do this & there was a 4-wheeler track behind the home that was not visiible from the street.

Good Tip for your Home Buyers - 02/14/08 05:29 PM
 A good tip to pass along to home buyers that I learned from one of my buyers.
Every time they choose a home to view, I advise them to first drive by to make sure they like the area.
My buyers take it a step further by viewing the area from a satillite with google earth.
Google earth is easy to use & is free to download.
 This saved my buyers ( and me) from making an offer on a home that had a 4 wheeler race track behind it, that could not be seen from the road.
