texas: Why join a local RESA Chapter? - 05/22/10 05:41 PM
As the 2009-10 Charter President of the RESA-Dallas Chapter I am thrilled to be involved with a local association of professional home stagers who value professionalism, ethics, accountability, education and what they do as home staging professionals locally in the Dallas area. We officially started our chapter in September of 2009 after almost 2 years of Stage it Forward Round tables, casual get togethers and then active recruitment. So don't be discouraged if there is not a RESA chapter locally yet in your area.  YOU can do it!
As a national member of RESA & a RESA-Pro I am also equally thrilled to be in the … (12 comments)

While we're still in the early stages of forming a Dallas RESA Chapter the last meet and greet we had at IKEA , Frisco,TX was very successful (in spite of the rain!) and those in attendance decided we should meet again in April at a more central location.
Based on the addresses of those in attendance at the last meeting Richardson,TX was the most centrally located city for everyone. (Thank you Rose for figuring that out)
After checking into the area for possibilities with quiet spaces we could meet and talk, Cafe Brazil in Richardson,TX off Central Expressway and Campbell had the capacity and area … (13 comments)

texas: Not selling a home? Start planning like you are. 5 Tips to Start Thinking like a Seller - 03/12/09 12:30 PM
In the past 2 weeks I found out that a dear friend of mine and family are moving.
I was, to say the least, shocked and quite saddened that one of my friends won't be close by.  Road trips are being planned already and long "girl's weekends" are on the agenda.
Her husband, took a great job within his company but had to agree to relocate quickly in order to fulfill the position. He is literally leaving this weekend.
They've started the mad dash process of getting the home ready for sale and lining up schedules with workers for this month. She is concerned that … (11 comments)

texas: 10 Easy Changes to Improve the Marketablity of your Home - 02/26/09 10:38 AM
Home Sellers if you already haven't, prepare to change.
Especially in the current state of the housing market (& limited numbers actually buying & those that are -are being extremely picky with what they are purchasing) seriously ask yourself this question;
"Is it really going to hurt too much to make a few changes that can expedite the sale of my house?"
As a North Texas Home Staging Professional I am sometimes faced with clients who feel that;
their homes  their choices [whether cosmetic or structural] and the way they are living is perfect for them so why change?  Marcia! Marcia! Marcia!

texas: Lacking furniture for a key selling space? Reuse & repurpose what you may already own - 02/23/09 08:14 PM
As a Professional Home Stager, I always recommend when selling that it's important to have furniture in every key room. Key rooms include all main living areas, kitchen and master bedrooms.
Vacant rooms are very difficult for buyers to visualize and often leave them sorely lacking in terms of connecting to the home.
In some cases understandably sellers have not gotten around to furnishing key spaces for lack of time, funds or desire to choose something - it happens! However when selling it will pose a problem should a key space remain empty.
Some key problems with vacant spaces are:

texas: Selling Safely - Why Guns don't say "buyer friendly" - 02/06/09 08:36 PM
Being a Professional Home Stager in the Great State of Texas has its share of perks as well as challenges.  Texans are a proud people and guns are a way of life for many. From hunting, recreational shooting to security, guns are generally accepted here as "normal".
Now I bring up this point not to stir controversy or state a position on them rather, I bring it up as a Professional Home Stager who recommends that while in the process of selling a home, sellers should take serious the consideration to remove or at minimum, lock safely and securely any weapons … (20 comments)

texas: Greetings 86 Collin County, TX RE Pro members! Where are the other 741? Here's a challenge... - 01/04/09 08:08 PM
I started thinking today about how great Active Rain has been for me both personally and professionally as I hope it's been for you or will be in the future.  As with anything, you get back what you give out.
Personally I've made real friends here from coast to coast. We talk on the phone, get together (if local & some of my other friends and I have talked about meeting somewhere in the middle) send personal emails and notes and genuinely support and encourage each other.
Professionally, it's increased my business and my SEO as well as keeps me connected with other North Texas RE Pros in my … (9 comments)

texas: Home Star Staging's success is Collin County, TX merchant's success - 01/04/09 03:39 PM
Yes, it's a no brainer - my company's, Home Star Staging, success supports not only Collin County's economy but every area I do business in and that includes Dallas, parts of Denton and sometimes Tarrant counties as well.
As I go through the always fun task of getting my year end receipts together I was looking at the businesses I frequent for goods and services in my day to day life as a home staging professional in North Texas. These businesses depend on me and you to patronize them in order for them to stay in business too.
And if I'm a viable business I can afford to help … (14 comments)

texas: Favorite Staging Transformation 2008 - but not for the reasons you may think - 12/28/08 05:58 PM
My favorite staging transformation of 2008 was the first staging job I scheduled at the beginning of 2008.
It was my favorite for several reasons but perhaps not for the reasons you may think (in terms of the before and after photos). Here are several reasons why it was my favorite:
First staging job to kick off 2008 It was less than 1/4 mile from my house in Plano, TX and 2 miles from my warehouse ;-) The seller found me online which confirmed and validated my blogging and SEO efforts from the prior year (This was a biggie for me. Thanks Active Rain!) … (17 comments)

texas: How one home stager reaches 200,000 (or more) Collin County, TX Residents - FREE - 12/22/08 12:20 PM
I teach, therefore I reach.
It's that simple.
When my instructor packet arrived recently with the newly printed Winter-Spring 2009 Collin College Schedule of Continuing Education booklet inside, it dawned on me again. I am reaching well over 200,000 residents of Collin County Texas who are receiving their booklets with my Home Staging course in it, for free.  The college sends this professionally printed course schedule out 3 times a year to all Collin County residents. How's that for marketing and it doesn't cost me a thing?
Then I see it on page 8 this time, that's right, my very own home staging course … (35 comments)
