Leonberger Dogs


I just ran into an owner of these wonderful dogs out in the parking lot of my office. What a beautiful dog and so sweet!  I wanted you to see just how beautiful these dogs are.  Below is a video I found where the owner is being greeted by their Leonberger.  The second video below will also show you that these dogs can be used as watchdogs or for security.  Although we all know how gentle and tame they really are.  But, to a stranger, the size and accompanying bark from this gentle giant is enough to scare anyone off.    


Leonberger Dogs


I have never seen this type of dog before and was wondering how many of you are aware of this breed of dog.  They're called "Leonberger" and they have very long, flowing hair with browns, tans, and black colored hair.  Their face is mostly black.  Upon first glance, I thought the dog was a St. Bernard mix of sorts.  I found out later that this breed was created by mixing the Newfoundland with the St. Bernard,  the Pyranese Mountain dog and then back with the St. Bernard and came up with our now known Leonberger dog.
