everett: Kids Take Helm of Navy Ship for a Day - 04/08/09 09:11 PM
Cmdr. Robert Bodvake stood on deck of the USS Momsen at Everett Naval Station and barked his first order to the deployed group "No Running".  Strange you say, well he was speaking to a group of children age 6 to 12 who has either one or both parents in the military. They were on a "one day deployment of the USS Momsen".

The program, sponsored by the base's Fleet and Family Service Center and Child and Youth Programs help kids in military families understand their parents' roles in servng their country.
Navy firefighters manned a learn-by-doing station and children got to … (0 comments)

everett: And The Rains Cometh! - 01/06/09 10:08 PM
It's "actively raining" in the greater Seattle area. The weather forecasters predict between 5-10 inches tonight. That's already on top of the several feet of snow that has melted this past weekend. You can read the whole story here.

Local rivers are expected to crest on Wednesday.  There has been damage to residences, businesses and farms due to the extreme weather we have had for the past two weeks.  We are not used to receiving as much snow as we did (several feet in many areas) and it melting so quickly.  There has been avalanche control in the mountains as well.

everett: A Positive Attitude - Yes It Works - 01/05/09 05:53 PM
I'd like to share with you my experience with a referral here on Active Rain.  I was one of the "first original rainers" and living in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area) I was honored to meet many of the staffers of AR on many occasions.
A year ago I received a referral from Sarah Nopp, a RE/MAX Agent in Olympia, WA which is about 50 miles from my home town of Everett. Sarah had been following me on Active Rain and we chatted a few times on line. Sarah had a client, relocating from Hawaii, that wanted to be near the … (3 comments)

everett: Recycling a House - Have You Thought About It - 10/05/08 12:58 PM
A local doctor and his family purchased a small 50 year old home perched on an Everett bluff. As the family grew they found that the 1400 sq. foot home would no longer serve their growing family needs. They learned that remodeling wasn't feasible; so it would have to be a "tear down" so they could rebuild on the beautiful lot. They felt like it was a waste to destroy a historical home that had sat there for 50 years.  So they contacted a Canadian Company that opened an office in Everett to buy the home.  This company specializes in moving … (0 comments)

everett: Everett's Secret Jewel - 07/28/08 05:45 PM
Not a prettier place on earth on a hot sunny day; can you imagine - no phones, no cars, no shops, no driving to it - only access is by boat - ----------

everett: Do You Know Where Your Toilet Paper Comes From - 02/12/08 09:21 PM
Well, Everett, WA does have a claim to fame; Boeing, Fluke Mfg., the Everett Naval Base and, ta da, the Kimberly-Clark Pulp Mill.
Can you believe they produce over a million rolls of toilet tissue and paper products each day with about 850 employees.
The plant sits on the Puget Sound waterfront neighboring the Naval Base.  They were recently fined $235,000 for a smokey six month fire in waste wood chips that was meant for fuel. This is the largest fine ever levied on a pulp mill in Washington.
Shame, shame, Kimberly-Clark, I'm sure you'll be hearing from the Pollution Control of Washington State. … (5 comments)

everett: Get The Facts - Washington Real Estate - Snohomish County Market Conditions - 01/06/08 11:47 AM
Get The Facts - The foreclosure rates today in Washington State are the same as they were 10 years ago.  Fewer than one percent of mortgages end in default in Washington state. As of mid-June, sub-prime, adjustable-rate loans represented 20 percent of loans nationally but just 6 percent of home loans in Washington.  Real Estate is Local - listen to our radio ad.
You Ask Why - Home appreciation in Washington continues to be strong. Home prices have increased an average of 8% since the same time last year.  Interest rates continue to be low.  Our home market isn't keeping pace with the growth … (0 comments)

The sun is shining in the beautiful Pacific NW, the leaves are turning red and gold. It's the perfect weekend to search for that biggest, best pumpkin you can find. However, newscasters are telling us that our weather of late is too wet and most pumpkins are rotting on the field! Heaven forbid! Get out there and start hunting before we become "pumpkinless"! Imagine "Pumpkinless in Seattle", we can't have it!
Here are some local places to go: Carlton Farms on Sunnyside Dr in Everett; Craven Farm in Snohomish, Biringer Farm located between Everett and Marysville.

everett: 4 Year College for Everett? - 03/24/07 12:16 PM
Many state senators and community leaders have been working on the proposal of bringing a four year college to Everett.  With a population of over 100,000 and 670,000 in Snohomish County, and with forecasts of nearly one million, Everett needs to step up to the plate and provide higher education opportunities in the Engineering and Polytechnic field.
Now, Everett's Mayor says he's willing to back a branch campus of the University of Washington in Everett.  "A UW branch will create new, affordable and convenient education options for North Puget Sound students," Mayor Stephanson said recently.  The biggest hurdle is whether a branch … (0 comments)

everett: What do TV's, Pets and Kids Have In Common - 03/23/07 10:39 PM
They all need a home, and I've found them one.
Ever have to find a home that fits a movie sized screen TV; I did, we had to find just the right sized family room to hold not only the tv, but the components, movie chairs and let's not forget the popcorn machine.
Or maybe there's an important member of the family that we need to consider, and unfortunately, he can't communicate to us his needs; however, he needs a fenced yard to be safe.  I've looked for many a home that has a fenced yard as a requirement for "Beloved Fido" or … (1 comments)

everett: It's Raining in Everett - Active Raining - 03/12/07 11:34 PM
And I'm not talking weather here.  I was minding my own business the other evening, blogging, entering a listing and doing other paperwork for my listings. when I got a phone call from a prospective client.  She was on the internet looking for agents.
She had some questions regarding her financing and the manner in which her home was listed prior.  She listed with an agent that was a lender as well. Now, don't get me wrong, some people are capable of wearing both hats. Unfortunately, this agent was threatening her with "you have bad credit" "no one will give you a … (2 comments)

everett: There Is Hope - 03/05/07 05:54 PM
We're talking about "Housing Hope" in Everett, Washington.  Later this month the nonprofit organization plans to open New Century Village, a 44 unit transitional housing complex for homeless families with children.
Funds came from a variety of sources including city, county, state and federal governments along with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Twenty-one spaces will be available for  homless teen mothers -- the trials and tribulations of adolescence are difficult enough, add single parenthood, poverty and homelessness and it's a recipe for desperation that most will never endure.
This nonprofit group has helped homeless teen moms find permanent housing, go back to school … (2 comments)

everett: Everett's Wierd Weather - 02/28/07 11:04 AM
Well, someone said "spring is just around the corner".  Not here in the Pacific Northwest. There is a cold front moving in today that will be dropping SNOW FLAKES in the low lands, particularly, Everett as we are in the convergience zone!
As I look out my office window, it's 8:55 AM and the flakes are as large as silver dollars! And with all the evergreen trees we have it, it coats them like pictured here.
We are expecting trace to 3" here today with freezing temperatures tonight; however, don't get the sled out yet, by Friday, it will warm into the 50's.

everett: Boeing Success Hits Local Wallets - 02/03/07 06:32 PM
It's been a good year for the Boeing Company, which means millions of dollars will be paid out in bonuses for local Everett workers. About 45,000 employees in the Puget Sound region will receive an equivalent of 12 days worth of pay to most of the workers.
The payout is tied to meeting specific financial targets. This is great news for the local economy. It means cars, televisions and other big toys will be sold, but for some this could be closing costs on a new home.
