We have friends over every year the night before they go home for the summer. Last night the menu was:
Tortolinni with garlic and butter
Pepperoni with crisps and assiago cheese
Mushrooms stuffed with soft cheese
Ham salad cups
 
Tomato, basil and onion salad with balsamic vinegar
Brined and Grilled Pork Chops
Mashed potatoes
Roasted Green Beans
 
Sharp cheddar and grapes
Chocolates
My husban grilled the chops, eveything else was done ahead of time. It was very tasty, looked effortless and I didn't break a sweat.

Florida Keys major crime is down 6.6 percent in 2010 - 04/30/11 02:00 PM
So what is the crime like in the Keys? Let it be known that we are 106 miles long.
There was a decrease of 31% in forcible sex offenses, 38% decrease in aggravated assaults, 3% decrease in burglary, 6.5% decrease in larceny and a 23% decrease in motor vehicle theft.
What were the "bad boy" numbers? There were 5 murders, up from 2 the year before and 19 robberies, up from 11 the year before.
So, pay attention to what is going on around you, lock your house and vehicles, and have a great time in the fabulous Florida Keys.

I Pad users, I need your help! - 04/30/11 01:47 PM
I am considering the Ipad 2 and have a couple of questions. Since we already have Iphones and 2 data plans, the last thing I want to do is add additional expense because vanity says I have to have an Ipad. Well, not JUST vanity. I understand they are supposed to be really great professional tools.
I have two questions, 1. Are they really that useful?
2. Can I connect my Iphone to the Ipad2 for internet access without incurring any additional charges? I have an unlimited data plan with my Iphone.

The sweet gentleman who we had the privilege of fostering has found a forever home.  We were sad to see him go because he was such a superior cat. I hope his new family enjoys him as much as we did. I made sure that Caring for Cats knew that should anything go wrong in his new home, he always can come back to us. We miss you Tanner! We wish you a Puuurfect life.

I have noticed quite a few blog posts this evening with lots and lots of words. I guess the fact that AR was down gave a lot of people an opportunity to ramp up their Google Juice and write 500 words or more.Good for YOU!
I would like to believe that I, as a fellow Active Rainer, had the time to read all the words.

There were 8 Real Estate Closings between Ramrod Key, Summerland Key, Cudjoe Key, Sugarloaf Key, Big Coppit Key and Key Haven.
The highest priced sale was Key Haven at 159 Key Haven Rd, selling for $975,000.
The lowest priced sale was 701 Spanish Main, lot 298 for $108K.
The average price was right around $400,000.

Of these 4 the highest priced closing was $607,000 for 132 Plantation Shores Drive. The lowest priced sale was $325,000 for 844977 Overseas Highway. The average price was just about $475,000.

What to do with unwanted Easter candy - 04/24/11 08:38 AM
What do you do when someone gives you Easter Candy with a pure heart and you are on a diet? Well, you don't say "I can't eat that stuff".
Here are some suggestions:
1. Provide the giver with a kiss or hug depending on the relationship
2. Follow this with a heart felt "Thank you"
3. Donate it later to someone who can eat it without gaining an ounce
4. Find a small child and have a big heart and give it to the child.
5. Put it in the freezer for another day.

I am a pretty good cook. I make lamb, but I don't eat lamb. That is not quite true, I have forced myself to have a bite or two at a dinner party.
The funniest is when a friend was having us over for my 55th birthday and announced she was making lamb. I would have eaten it. Luckily, other people that were invited spoke up and said THEY wouldn't eat it. Whew, that let me off the hook because the hostess changed the menu for an elderly person.

Wow, a day without Rain was rather daunting. I kept going back and going back.
I guess I should explain that I keep several windows of Active Rain open at one time. If there is a post I want to read more thoroughly, I leave it open, if there is a contest I want to enter, I leave it open. If there is a post with a video I don't have time to watch, your guessed it! OPEN!

Wii Fitness Plus Zen Meditation and ME! (Should be for you too!) - 04/24/11 07:52 AM
Wii Fitness Plus Zen Meditation is one of the most helpful things I have come across for focusing. I am getting so much more done that I ever did before because of this silly 3 minutes sitting on the Wii balance board.
If you have to exercise, isn't sitting on your butt the best kind?
My system is simple, I spend 10-20 minutes with the WII free run and the treadmill, often listening to motivational CD's. (This week is Anthony Robbins). I also spend some quiet time reflecting on the day ahead.

May 6 & 7, 2011 is the Mother's Day Dolphin Tournament at the Catch 53 Bar and Grill on Key Colony Beach, in the fabulous Florida Keys.

Last night was the Fur Ball! Make your plans for next year, this year was GREAT! - 04/16/11 02:06 PM
I admit, I didn't know what to expect. The event was the 2nd annual Fur Ball to be held at Holiday Isle's beach. The dress was Keys dressy casual, which meant anything from shorts to long sundress for ladies and shorts and a shirt (or even long pants) for men.
Some ladies put on their long sundresses, I had on a skort and a blouse. There was dancing, but we did not partake.

   Tanner needs a forever home. You can adopt him today if you have a loving home. He has been declawed in his front paws and knows how to use a cat door to go out to the screen patio. Tanner is a sweet neutered Male cat that has been declawed in his front paws. We are fostering him for about 6 more weeks. We hope to find him a forever home by then. He is very sweet and loving, likes to talk a bit and knows how to use a cat door.
He is a great indoor cat because of the fact he was declawed. He loves to purr and like both men and women. He like everyone and is not shy.

OK, we have had Woofstock, and the Fur Ball, now comes Woof n' Worship. - 04/07/11 02:22 PM
St James the Fisherman Church will offer a Woof n Worship service on Sunday April 10th, Mile Marker 87.5 bay side at noon.
Well behaved owners and dogs are welcome to worship together. The service will be held outdoors and refreshments will follow.
Each dog will receive a special blessing and a St Francis medal for their collar.

ICE, Islamorada Community Entertainment, is once again offering FREE admission to Bay Jam music fest 2011. There will be more than 12 bands, all with ties to the Florida Keys music scene.
 
The Fest is scheduled for April 10th at the TIB Amphitheater in Founders Park ( I made a Freudian slip and typed "Flounders" park, some people think the Village is in trouble).

I cook for two.
On sale this week was Murray and David's corned beef, hamburger (3 lbs), whole chicken, mushrooms, pot roast and beef ribs (.99 lb) so here is what I made.
I bought a large head of cabbage and 2 lbs of carrots. I had celery, onions and the like.
I used the outside leaves of the head of cabbage for stuffed cabbage, the center of the cabbage went into the corned beef and cabbage and of course carrots and onions.The ground meat went inside the stuffed cabbage

How do YOU tell if the buyers are for real? - 04/03/11 10:47 AM
I have spent hours with people. Some I can tell are just kicking tires, others go back to a place twice and take measurements and talk about where they will put the washer and dryer.
Neither of these couple bought, and it is not so much that I don't enjoy getting to know new people, and  I don't mind seeing the inventory that is out there.
What I have a problem dealing with is people wasting my time. Just tell me you are trying to decide between here and Naples or you will only buy if the perfect property is available … (5 comments)

Today is the day for Island Fest and taste of Islamorada, the Florida Keys - 04/03/11 10:38 AM
If any one notice, the traffic yesterday was just about nil passing Founders Park, even though Island Fest was going on. You could actually get a good parking space at 12:45.
I think everyone is waiting for today, just like I am. Today is not only Island Fest, but Taste of Islamorada, too. Taste of Islamorada showcases some of the best restaurants in the area.
