real estate: Rejoice in the lessons of Memorial Day - 05/25/09 09:49 AM
When people are serving, life is no longer meaningless. John Gardner Today, we honor those that gave the ultimate service to others. Not only do we take time to recognize their sacrifice and offer encouragement to those families that live on without those that we love...but we also can take what they have offered us and apply it to our every day approach to daily life. Countless famous people have told us of the virtues of service. Albert Swchweitzer said, "I don't know what your destiny will be but one thing I do know, the only ones among you who will

real estate: Gardening promotes wisdom - 05/24/09 12:25 PM
One of the habits that I inherited from my father is the wisdom of keeping a garden. Although my garden is tiny compared to average and super-teeny-weeny compared to the one kept by my parents, it still provides something for me that is hard to describe. Sure, it is wonderful to taste the "fruit of my labor" with fresh tomatoes, basil and other culinary delights. But there is more to the experience than can be tasted in the mouth when it is eaten. (BTW: The pic on the right is actually the first little grape tomatoes formed in my garden on

real estate: Help for Houston area agents - 09/19/08 09:51 PM
As the Greater Houston area begins our journey to recovery from Hurricane Ike, things are happening to speed that healing. I know that Active Rain is more than 100,000 concerned real estate professionals. And eventhough I was ready to close my computer for the night, I thought I would share this resource link for the "rainers". Still, one week after the storm made its way onto the Gulf Coast, more than half of our population does not have power. I was lucky to have mine restored at 4:30 this morning. The Houston Association of Realtors recognizes that many of our fellow agents are in

real estate: It's a WONDERFUL World! Thanks Georgina! - 02/06/08 07:27 AM
Since 1974, when I got my first job as a telemarketer for real estate, I have been in love with the spirit of real estate agents. There is something indescribable about that spirit. A broker cannot detect whether an individual has what it takes to fit into this world of representing clients in their real estate transactions. Only the test of time can determine if someone has a big enough heart to "belong". One thing is certain, the "revolving door" of licensing will be a continuing issue. Those that get into real estate to make lots of money may remain around for a

Referred to by those in the area as "America's Hometown," The Woodlands is a 27,000-acre master-planned community nestled in the forests just 27 miles north of downtown Houston. Home to more than 60,000 residents, this community has something for everyone with more than 150 miles of hiking and bike trails, a 1.1 million square foot shopping mall, an outdoor performing arts pavilion, office and research buildings, hospitals and a four-star resort. real estate: Are WE the next Real Estate SuperStars??? - 01/30/08 08:01 PM
If only 3-6% of the current agents have the ability to maximize the use of a blog, will we be the next group of agents positioned to be highly paid professionals? I wish I would have bookmarked the post of a video recorded at the Inman Conference earlier this month. Thanks to the post of one of my fellow Rainers, I listened to a panel of experts discuss the future of social media and Web2.0 as it relates to real estate. Obviously, there was much excitement about the power of this type of media both in building a community presence as a

real estate: Oh Me, Oh My - A meme!!! - 01/14/08 09:41 AM
Natalie Langford tagged me about a week ago. I really, really wonder what would cause her to be intrigued about me. Is it because I burst onto the Active Rain scene and was blown away by all the intelligent, generous and talented people here? I was so impressed that my immediate thought was to "bottle up" some of this wonderful stuff and compile it into a book. Books - I have done in the past even though the bio page was the toughest part. Now you want a meme from me. I cannot imagine what I should tell you. Having lived

real estate: What inspires you? - 01/12/08 08:50 AM
Many of us in real estate spend a great deal of our life working to fulfill the hopes and dreams of our buyers and sellers. Some are wise enough to give our family and friends the most focus. But when was the last time you asked yourself what inspires you? In the words of Dolly Parton, "When I am inspired, I get excited because I can't wait to see what I'll come up with next." Is your life filled with the pragmatic actions required to fullfill the needs of family and clients to the detriment of that deep soul-filled part of you that

real estate: Traditionally slow week in real estate - 12/26/07 08:47 AM
For many years I have taken the week between Christmas and New Years day off. It seemed that this was the perfect time to relax with family and catch up on some rest. This year feels quite different! I am so revved up about 2008, I can hardly wait to get started. So this will be the week that I spend as much time as possible outlining my plans. I am a very global person by nature and planning is not my strong suit. Freedom is my favorite part of the real estate profession. We work very, very hard. But we are

real estate: Happy Christmas - 12/25/07 07:20 PM
It is a beautiful day for Christmas in the Houston area. Some years it is a little depressing to be still running our airconditioner during the holidays. Just last week most of the days were a warm 80 degrees and I was becoming quite tired of the heat. I love my jackets and rarely get to wear one an entire day. I have purchased only one coat since moving here in 1979 and it took more than 25 years to wear it out. Most of the wear took place when I was at NAR conventions in places like Chicago or Washington DC. I'm not
