Signs of Spring in Sturbridge
While the weekend temperatures rose to summer levels, it is still only the end of April.  We have just started to see nature peeking out from between the raindrops to add a splurge of color here and there.  Enjoy these photos of the first signs of spring in Sturbridge!

kathryn acciari: Lotto Tickets a Big Hit! - 04/17/09 06:20 AM
Back in March, I posted a list of mailings and pop-by ideas which was well-received by many ActiveRainers.  I thought you might like to know that of all the activities I did in March, the lottery tickets had the strongest impact.  I received an email or card from 90% of the people who I sent lotto tickets to in conjunction with St. Patrick's Day.  As far as mailings are concerned, I'd say this is a keeper.
What types of responses are other people getting from their pop-bys and mailings?  I'd love to hear about some other successes.

kathryn acciari: Sturbridge First Quarter 2009 Market Update - 04/06/09 11:31 AM
The Sturbridge market was a bit quiet in the first three months of the year.  We are, however, seeing more activity as spring begins.  Check back in early July for the report on the 2nd quarter of 2009.

kathryn acciari: Free Online Site for Advertising to Wine Industry - 04/01/09 03:14 AM
For those of you who work with wine enthusiasts, I found a web site where you can post real estate ads for free.  The ads will stay on the site for 35 days.  You can also post ads for wine making equpiment, which may be helpful to your wine-producing clients.
Please note, I've not used this site myself so I can not vouch for its effectiveness.  If you use it, let me know if you get any results from it.  Here is the lnk:

kathryn acciari: Where'd Ya Get Those i's? (An ActiveRain Thank You Note) - 03/31/09 06:42 AM
Dear Fellow ActiveRainers,
Thank you for helping me reach a goal this week.  As of March 30, I had reached my goal of earning 10,000 ActiveRain points by the end of the 1st quarter of 2009!  And I certainlly could not have done it without you.
A colleague invited me to AR way back in 2006, but back then I am embarrassed to say, I just didn't get it.  By the following year, I was very curious about blogging but did not know where to start and also did not realize I was already part of the BEST blog network around.  … (10 comments)

kathryn acciari: RE/MAX Agents Donated $8 Million to Children's Miracle Network in 2008 - 03/27/09 03:37 AM

RE/MAX of New England recently reported that donations made by RE/MAX agents in 2008 reached a level of $8 million in the U.S. and Canada.  This is a significant number, given the fact that for many agents, 2008 was a very difficult year.  The generosity of RE/MAX agents remained strong throughout a tumultuous time, and I for one am proud to be a member of this remarkable group.
Through the Children's Miracle Network, each RE/MAX agent in the U.S. and Canada can make a donation in their client's name at the close of a real estate transaction.  This means that most (if … (0 comments)

kathryn acciari: Real Estate Agents Want to Know: What Type of Gift Would You Like When You Buy or Sell a Home - 03/22/09 08:32 AM
WHAT GIFT WOULD YOU LIKE FROM YOUR REAL ESTATE AGENT?
Whenever a group of real estate agents gets together, a frequent topic that comes up is closing gifts. We real estate agents see our clients frequently over an intense period of time.  We build bonds and friendships with our clients, and often feel that we wish to thank our clients with a special gift at closing.
The question that comes up, however, is what represents the perfect closing gift? There are so many choices out there - from gift cards to magazine subscriptions to artwork. What is the best gift to give?

kathryn acciari: Sturbridge Snowstorm - 03/17/09 05:53 AM
For those of you who miss the snow, here is a video I made of our snowstorm of March 2, 2009. We had over a foot of snow overnight, and another 3-4 inches later that day. This video was filmed at around 6 AM. No plow had been down the road yet, so I was able to make first tracks! All of that has melted now, of course, as spring starts to peek out around us. This was probably the last storm of the season. I hope you enjoy it.

kathryn acciari: Red Sox, Yankees, and Johnny Damon - 03/07/09 02:52 AM
Hi everyone.  Just discovered and joined this group today.  I can sense the excitement in the air as spring training revs up.
Anyway, I'd like to share a story with you.  Being Massachusetts residents, my family and I have naturally become fans of the Red Sox.  When Johnny Damon moved to the Yankees, my son (then 9 years old) was quite upset to see his hero leave town.
"Why did Johnny Damon go with the Yankees, Dad?"
"Well, the Yankees offered him more money than the Red Sox were paying, so Johnny decided to take the offer and went to play for the Yankees."
My son … (5 comments)

7 Pop-By, Mailing, and Event Ideas to Bring You Luck in March

I love the Buffini idea of sending lottery tickets for luck on St. Patrick's Day.  What else can you send, or do for pop-bys in the Month of March?  Here are some ideas:

Pop-Bys
1.  Red Sox (or other team) Scarves to celebrate the open of baseball season. Buy a large piece of licensed professional baseball team fleece.  In Massachusetts, of course, we have the beloved Red Sox.  Cut rectangles of the fleece, 6" x 36".  Cut the ends into fringe.  Voila!  Scarves to mail or drop off to … (17 comments)

kathryn acciari: Sunrise on Tannery Road - 03/04/09 12:10 AM

After five years of living in this neighborhood, the sunrise remains one of my greatest delights.  The early timing of dawn in the spring brings us not only longer days, but more spectacular colors and light each morning.  In this photo, the sun has just popped over the crest of the hills to the east of Sturbridge.  It's my pleasure to share this wonderful scene with you.     -Kathryn Acciari

kathryn acciari: How Do I Love Thee - Create a Word Cloud for Your Localism Blog - 03/01/09 11:49 PM
We are having a big, beautiful snow day here in New England.  Our street has not yet been plowed out.  What better way to spend a couple of hours than on AR?  I've become enamored with Wordle and created a word cloud using some of the words that I feel describe my town of Sturbridge, MA.  I am going to use it as the logo for a web site that I'm creating on the town of Sturbridge.  Here it is:

And here are the steps to creating your own:
1.  Go to www.wordle.com
2.  Click on Create.
