sturbridge: A Magical Evening at Old Sturbridge Village's 12 Nights of Christmas - Sturbridge, MA - 12/14/09 01:33 PM
A Magical Evening at Old Sturbridge Village's 12 Nights of Christmas - Sturbridge, MA STURBRIDGE, MA - Old Sturbridge Village is holding a wonderful holiday event this year: The 12 Nights of Christmas. On selected evenings (see below) the Village will be open during evening hours only while it presents its candlelight Christmas in the style of early Colonial days. My family and I ventured to Old Sturbridge Village a few nights ago and had a thoroughly delightful time. Seventeen of the buildings around the Village's town common were open for evening events. The wind was cold and brisk, which made

sturbridge: Snow and Lights on Tannery Road - Tall Pines - Sturbridge, MA - 12/08/09 08:56 PM
Snow and Lights on Tannery Road - Tall Pines - Sturbridge, MA Winter made a stunning entrance on Tannery Road in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, in early December 2009. One of the remarkable features of this neighborhood is the row of street lights that line the road. The lamps are hand-made by a local tinsmith, and when night falls and the lights come up, Tannery Road is transformed. Add the lighted garland that the residents hang for the holiday season each year, and you have the prettiest street in Sturbridge. These photograhs were taken on an early morning, as the

sturbridge: Sturbridge, MA - RE/MAX Agents Give to Needy Kids - 12/08/09 08:12 PM
Sturbridge, MA - RE/MAX Agents Give to Needy Kids On Tuesday, December 8, 2009, agents from the RE/MAX Professional Associates offices of Sturbridge, Charlton, and Spencer gathered to spend the morning in a flurry of holiday wrapping. The agents assembled bundles of hats, mittens, gloves, and socks to donate to local children in need. Amidst holiday songs and cookies, the RE/MAX agents created over 100 gift packages. They then disbursed to deliver their gifts to area schools, which will in turn provide needy families with the donated bundles. A happy holiday to all the families of Central Massachusetts! sturbridge: Ask Me About Sturbridge - C'mon, Ask Me! - 11/14/09 12:58 PM
Ask Me About Sturbridge - C'mon, Ask Me! My name is Kathryn Acciari, and I am a resident of Sturbridge, MA. I'm also a REALTOR and dance instructor here I meet a lot of people and hear tons of news about what is going on around town. In the past year, it had occurred to me that there really was no central site where residents, and visitors, could go to find out what was happening in Sturbridge. So I spent a couple of months working through designs and learning how to build a web site. By mid-2009, AskMeAboutSturbridge.com was up and running. What type of information

sturbridge: Giant Fungi Attack Small New England Town - 08/08/09 02:19 PM
Giant Fungi Attack Small New England Town - August 2009 STURBRIDGE, MA: The quaint town of Sturbridge, MA, is under siege by mysterious, enormous fungi. Numerous residents have reported that their lawns and gardens are little more than havens for toadstools and never before seen varieties of mushrooms. A summer of heavy rains and overcast skies has taken its toll on this usually drought-ridden area. "I came home from vacation, and I had to chop down the mushrooms before I could cut the lawn," one victim proclaimed. "The mushrooms were as big as pancakes." "Usually, by this time of the year

sturbridge: Free Ice Cream Day at Friendly's - 06/02/09 07:33 AM
Free Ice Cream! My son came home from school today asking that we go to Friendly's on Saturday. From noon to 5 PM, the well-known ice cream store is holding its annual Free Ice Cream Day, and the Friendly's in Sturbridge is indeed participating. Friendly's is offering a free single scoop of ice cream in a cone or dish. Perfect for an after-baseball or softball treat. We've never attended this event, so I can not offer any tips on the best times to go, but the weather report looks perfect for an afternoon ice cream break. Check the Friendly's web

sturbridge: Parking in Sturbridge - 05/17/09 10:29 AM
Following is a copy of a post that I wrote on Newsotronic: It pains me to learn of the parking disagreement that has developed between Rovezzi's and Mass Motion Dance Academy. As a teacher at Mass Motion, and a patron of Rovezzi's, I strongly believe that these two institutions are anchors in Sturbridge's business sector. Mass Motion has served hundreds, if not thousands, of families for several decades, providing professional dance training and performing opportunities for children of all ages. Rovezzi's offers our community a warm and jovial setting for its top-rate gourmet dining. The secret to both businesses' success is, I believe,

sturbridge: Looking for a Waterfront Getaway? Try Central Massachusetts! - 05/14/09 02:03 PM
One of the best features of the central part of Massachusetts is that it is full of small fresh water rivers, lakes and ponds. These water bodies provide opportunities for outdoor recreation. The summer just buzzes with swimmers, water-skiiers, boaters, and fisher-men and -women. But did you know that reasonably-priced waterfront properties are available here? In fact, in Worcester and Hampden Counties, there are currently close to 400 properties with water frontage on the market. Some of these are little seasonal cottages, some are campsites for RVs, some are just waterfront land parcels, and many are year-round homes. How are these properties priced? Here

sturbridge: Sturbridge Snowstorm - 03/17/09 12:53 PM
For those of you who miss the snow, here is a video I made of our snowstorm of March 2, 2009. We had over a foot of snow overnight, and another 3-4 inches later that day. This video was filmed at around 6 AM. No plow had been down the road yet, so I was able to make first tracks! All of that has melted now, of course, as spring starts to peek out around us. This was probably the last storm of the season. I hope you enjoy it.

sturbridge: 7 Pop-By, Mailing, and Event Ideas to Bring You Luck in March - 03/06/09 07:29 PM
7 Pop-By, Mailing, and Event Ideas to Bring You Luck in March I love the Buffini idea of sending lottery tickets for luck on St. Patrick's Day. What else can you send, or do for pop-bys in the Month of March? Here are some ideas: Pop-Bys 1. Red Sox (or other team) Scarves to celebrate the open of baseball season. Buy a large piece of licensed professional baseball team fleece. In Massachusetts, of course, we have the beloved Red Sox. Cut rectangles of the fleece, 6" x 36". Cut the ends into fringe. Voila! Scarves to mail or drop off to

After five years of living in this neighborhood, the sunrise remains one of my greatest delights.
