There is great news for the local economy this week. New Hanover and sister counties, Brunswick and Pender are expected to expand by approximately 4.5 percent during 2008. This forecasted growth is more than double the growth forecast for the state of NC and the nation according to Dr. William W. Hall, Jr, senior economist with the Center for Business and Economic Services at the University of North Carolina.

Here we go again! Wilmington NC has attained the record of #22 out of 287 cities in the rankings for house appreciation according to  Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight
(OFHEO), for the second quarter. Wilmington has enjoyed a 9.12 % one year increase and 74.7 five year increase. In comparison, Charleston ranked #62 with 5.93% one year gain and 60.6 for five years.

Downtown Wilmington Riverfest - 10/04/07 06:59 PM
This weekend thousands are expected to descend on downtown Wilmington for the 29th annual Riverfest. Organizers are keen on keeping the Cape Fear River at the heart of this annual event and have scheduled dozens of ways for you and your family to enjoy the numerous events and activities being offered.
The Riverfest kickoff show takes place at Battleship Park, next to the USS North Carolina directly across the Cape Fear River from downtown Wilmington and is free. This event features local bands and bands from other areas.

It really is a good time to buy now with the interest rates low. Buyers are in the driver's seat for the time being and can get a good deal on a home.  Of course, that depends on days on market, condition, location, competition etc. If the market picks up in the Spring, that could change. An ample inventory of homes always means you have more choices and can get better bargains.  In addition, builders and sellers are offering free upgrades, mortgage interest rate buy downs, closing costs and a host of other incentives.

Well our City has made the news again! It seems that we are now ranked #2 in the nation for job retention and creation as reported by Milken Institute. The Port of Wilmington and communication services have contributed to the accomplishment of 2nd place. The Port has seen growth over the last few years due to the channel deepening project. Here is another good reason Wilmington is a good place to live, play and work, not to mention affordability, mild climate and recreational activities.
