Remarkably, on this same date in 1956, the Sister Cities movement emerged from a White House Summit on Citizen Diplomacy. Featuring performances by local musicians, dancers and singers, the September 11th Concert is an opportunity to spread a message of hope through music, movement and the spoken word as we pay tribute to both of these events.

Event will not be rescheduled for later this year
The Town of Cary has decided to cancel the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival scheduled for Saturday August 27th due to the weather forecast and Hurricane Irene.  This is the first time the event has been canceled in what would have been its 35-year history.
Next year’s Lazy Daze is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2012. But if you can’t wait for good art until then, mark your calendars now for Cary’s Annual Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival, which will be held on April 28, 2012.

People along the East Coast were shaken up by tremors created by a 5.9 magnitude Earthquake near
Richmond, Va. Today.
 
 
 
It's the strongest earthquake along the East Coast since 1897.
 
 
The U.S. Geological Survey says the magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit outside Richmond, VA around 2 PM Tuesday, August 23rd and was felt along the East Coast from North Carolina to New England.  The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was 3.7 miles deep.
