Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow - 02/27/08 03:26 PM
Yesterday is gone forever.  However that does not mean what we can't learn from it.  All the things we did well, all the people who we met and helped us in any way that made us a better person, is what makes us who we are today.  So, I want to thank them, and I will be adding to this list often.  I will not make it public, so as not to embarrass them, but I will let them know, by e-mail, snail mail, or personal contact.
Today. What a great time we live in.  Two or three hundred years ago, I … (0 comments)

New Dishwasher from Maytag FREE - 02/27/08 07:45 AM
It wasn't easy, but we did it.  About 3 years ago we purchased a new dishwasher from Maytag.  After about 6 months, it developed a leak.  We called the company and a repairman came and "fixed" it.  About two days later the leak reappeared.  We call them again.  Again the repairman came and "fixed" it.  And again about a day or two later the leak reappeared.  After having the repairman come and fix the darn thing about 9 times, it was declared "unfix-able".  I was told that they would be sending a new unit.  The model we had was no longer … (1 comments)

Oatmeal Bread - 02/25/08 09:52 PM
Works best in the cool weather because I let it raise overnight.  I like to use King Arthur unbleached Bread flour, Quaker Oats (old fashioned) and Arrowhead organic Oat flour.   I get my yeast from a local bakery but if you can't get fresh yeast, then use a active dry yeast like Red Star. Three packs.  I use whole milk and grade A 93 score butter, sea salt and honey. And 2 eggs.  Here is the list.
first I melt 1/4 pound of butter, warm up 2 cups of milk
Add the salt, one ounce, that's about one tablespoon
1/3 cup of sugar,  1/3 cup … (4 comments)

Call my toll free 800 number for information about this home - 02/25/08 05:57 PM
I love the 800 number toll free system.  Buyers like to get information about a house they saw but sometimes are a little shy about calling, or they just don't have the time to call right now.  If they have a flyer with my 800 number on it, I write that it's a toll free 24 hour messaging system.  So, they can call at 2 AM  if they like, and some have, they get the information they want and the next morning, when I get up, I get a notification of the number and the time they called and which flyer … (1 comments)

Talking House, how I use it - 02/25/08 05:44 PM
First fact.  I'm a happy "talking House" CUSTOMER. I have no connection with the company other than as a Customer.  So, this might seem as an advertisement but it's not.  I guess you could call it a testament.
My experiences with this item used by other agents is very different than how I use it.  Most agents list the
benefits of the house and then ask the buyer to call the agency.  Before I became a Realtor, I did not like calling the agency unless I really liked the house.  I knew I was going to be asked 20 questions about myself … (0 comments)

Fireside blog 3 - 02/24/08 08:46 PM
Just thinking tonight as I relaxed by the fire about the day gone by.  With me by the fire was my friend, who by the way NEVER complains, even when I come late after a long day.  And when I serve the same meal, day after day after day, still, no complaining.  Always greeting me with joy when I come home.  Never critical of the way I dress or smell, follows me around all the time, and thinks I'm the best hunter on earth, when I come home, from the supermarket, with Buffalo, fish and chicken.  I'm really lucky to have such … (1 comments)

Staten Island, New York, Why I live here Part 1 - 02/20/08 09:30 AM
There are many beautiful places in this great country of ours.  But I live here on Staten Island.
I'm really made to think now because I must put my reasons in writing for this blog.
1-My family is here.  Need I say more?
2-I had a great job for 43 years with the same company.  They treated me well, otherwise I would not have stayed for 43 years. Now retired and loving being a Realtor. And working with the nicest people at Appleseed GMAC Real Estate
3-The climate is moderate.  I can't take very warm weather and I don't like the very cold either.  We … (3 comments)

Be informed, Important Election this year. - 02/15/08 07:58 AM
Read between the lines.  Today in the New York Daily News, Charles Krauthammer has an interesting article.
You can access it by clicking here  http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/index.html  Whatever your views, we need to be involved because NOT being involved is too costly.  Do we want others to shape our future?
Even if you don't like any of the candidates, surely there is something you like about someone.  Look at their records, think if their promises are just folly or "Yes we can" as Ken Cooke says.
America, read, listen, talk about it.  Try to see the good points of all the candidates.  Be open.  Make your … (4 comments)

Fireside blog #2 - 02/13/08 01:32 PM

Thinking about the fire giving warmth and light, I took a few pictures for my "Fireside blog". I then realized that the camera does not "see" the same as our eyes. In photo #1 the settings were f2.8 @ 1/60, above
photo #2
photo #2 settings were f3.4 @ 1/15. Can you see the difference? The most important difference is the time exposure. I understand we see at 1/30 of a second while the camera sees at whatever setting we make it.
Ever take a picture of a waterfall? Or of a wheel spinning? The spokes look like they are going backwards. This … (3 comments)

Hot Brownies on a cold winter night - 02/10/08 08:05 PM
Coming home from church tonight, my bride asks "I could go for some brownies"
So I make em.  Here is my version of New York Brownies.
1- 5 squares of Baker's unsweetened chocolate,  on the box it calls for 4, I use 5
2- one stick of butter, box calls for 1 1/2 sticks
3-2 cups of sugar, box calls for the same
4-three eggs, same as box
5- 1 cup of flour, same as box
6-bake for 30 minutes at 325 degrees, box calls for 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
I found that cooking at a lower temp for shorter time, then allow the hot brownies to sit … (1 comments)

How many people do you let in for "OPEN HOUSE"? - 02/10/08 08:25 AM
Yesterday I had a great day for my open house.  At one point I had a family of 8 waiting to get in.  I said to myself "how am I going to keep all these people together"?  As it turned out I had someone looking and I only let one family at a time in.  When I was finished with this person, I looked for the large family and they were gone.  I was thankful.  I feel I have an obligation to my homeowner to watch ALL the people so they don't steal anything or break anything or get hurt if … (8 comments)

If you are a gardener, and you don't get WOR radio, you can hear it on the net now or get podcasts for later listening.  check out this web site http://www.wor710.com/# a wealth of information for all gardeners.
This is also good information for Real Estate agents because we can share our information with customers and clients.  But even if it's just for you.  GREAT site.

Transfer tax, mortgage tax - 02/08/08 06:18 PM
Did you know that transfer taxes are NOT deductible on your income tax return?  That's what my accountant told me.  I'm not talking about points paid up front on a mortgage, I'm talking about money paid to your city or state with regards to the sale price.  Also mortgage tax, paid to the same city or state, not POINTS paid up front are also not deductible?  I was always under the impression that they were.  Just goes to show you what kind of an accountant I would make.   How much do you know about these things?  Any accountants reading this, please … (0 comments)

So, your friend did not list with you........ - 02/08/08 02:07 PM
What are your options?  You can be offended, or you can ask yourself why not me, or you can just move on.
How do you handle this?  I've been in all three categories.  That's OK to start out in one of the above, but where do we want to finish?  If I ask myself why not me, that's self examination.  We might need some help here from a trusted professional or mate.  If I need to improve somewhere, I want to know.  I know I can't be all things to all people, so I try to improve where I can and let … (7 comments)

Congress OK's tax rebate - 02/08/08 07:18 AM
What will you do with the rebate check.  Do you think it's a good thing?  How do we get the debt down when we just keep printing money?  Are they going to raise our taxes to pay for this rebate?  How does this make any sense?  It's nice to get free money in the mail but who pays for it?  Help me out here.  Make me understand.
Our government keeps raising our taxes,  when will it stop?

Gov. Romney is out, how do you feel about this? - 02/07/08 12:18 PM
Gov. Romney just droped out for the good of the country.  How do you feel about this?
Do you think McCain will pick him for VP or some other post?  What does this do to the Dems race?
Will McCain get conservative Dems on his side?  Will you stay home next November like Ive heard from some folks.  Do you care?  Please don't just say I like him or don't like him.  Give examples why.
Can you objective?

Super Tuesday, will you vote? - 02/05/08 07:33 AM
Will you go out and vote today, or just go about your business and complain like so many of us?
Just for the record,  I'm not very happy with any of the candidates, but I will vote today.  Why you ask?  Because if they see voters getting active, they must entertain us if they want out vote.  That's what happens when they vote differently than the what the people want.  They change their view.   So if we do nothing, they stay on the course their on.  If we make our opinion known, and they want our vote, they must bend.
Will you vote … (2 comments)

Fireside Blog - 02/01/08 06:43 PM
After dinner, with a heavy cold rain pouring down on my back porch roof, a crackling fire in my fireplace warming the room with my two pals, Mitzy and Cinder at my feet, what more could I ask for than to get in contact with my blog friends around the world.  What is it like where you are?  Below zero with six feet of snow on the ground or 78 degrees on the beach with a gentile south sea breeze blowing from the island of Oahu?  Whatever, it's fun to hear from you and learn about your area of the world.  I … (6 comments)
