Al's Saga continues... - 06/27/10 09:04 AM

Please contact your senators and representatives to help this boy get the treatment that he needs. This type of bureacracy needs to cease.

Via Lane Bailey - REALTOR & Car Guy (Diamond Dwellings Realty):
If you haven't already, please feel free to read Ade For Al.  A simple Lemonade Stand at the local Farmer's Market in Lilburn, GA raised over $2500 for Al Real's family in just one evening.  It makes me VERY proud to be part of this community.
As if the actual injuries little Al suffered weren't enough, now the family is having to fight for his treatment.

It Appears That After His BP Oil Spill Speech the Thrill is Gone! - 06/16/10 09:01 PM
Remember when Chris Matthews said "I felt this thrill going up my leg". Well it appears that it might have just been sciatica.
The three stalwart water bearers for the Obama administration have apparently not had any Kool-Aid lately. They have been slowly becoming, if not more critical, at least less sycophantic. However, after last nights speech that the president made, they are actually sounding more critical than many so-called right wing pundits, especially Bill O'Reilly and Charles Krauthammer.
Just take a gander at what Olbermann, Matthews & Feineman have to say about his speech. My what a difference 17 months … (17 comments)

Athens Ga Named to the Top 25 Art Destinations in the United States - 06/13/10 08:51 PM
AmericanStyle magazine has named Athens, Ga as one of the top 25 mid-sized city art destinations for the 9th straight year in a row. Rating cities on their visual and performance arts, Athens was rated #18 in the mid-sized city category this year.
While most people might know about Athens because of its contributions to the music scene with bands like R.E.M., Widespread Panic and The B-52's, there is also a strong visual arts environment here.
One the widest spread and easily recognized art displays is the Athens-Oconee Junior Woman's Club project "We Let the Dogs Out!". It is 36 bull … (9 comments)

Louisiana Residents to the President - "Lead or Get Out of the Way" - 06/11/10 11:46 AM
While I am not a faithful Hannity watcher, last night I saw that Frank Luntz was going to do an active poll with Louisiana residents impacted by the BP oil spill disaster. There were a few surprises in it.
First, almost to a person they are against the administrations policy of shutting down drilling and exploration from floating rigs in the gulf. Luntz gave a lot of follow up to this continually questioning how they, who had their livelihoods impacted could have that opinion.
Almost to a person they blame BP for the problem but also, almost to a person, they … (19 comments)

It Appears That Obama is Not Following His Own Experts Advice on the Oil Spill - 06/10/10 08:27 PM
It appears that Ken Salazar, Sec. of the Interior, fudged a report to Obama and added paragraphs recommending shutting down existing exploration and drilling from floating rigs offshore. He has since apologized to them but has not changed his recommendations.
However, these same experts adamantly oppose this, stating that shutting down the rigs is one of the worst things that can be done. First, it is during shut down that the most danger of trouble will occur, as in the case of the Deepwater Horizon. Second, the rigs will most likely be sent to other areas, especially the newer and safer … (19 comments)

Athens Ga Unemployment Rate Drops for Second Straight Month - 06/10/10 12:50 PM
The unemployment rate in Athens - Clarke County Ga has dropped for the second straight month in April. It is now at 7.4%, down from 7.9% in March and 8.4% in February. This is well below the national unemployment average of 9.7% and the Georgia unemployment rate of 10.4%, down from a March rate of 10.5%.
While this is excellent news for the Athens area, it remains to be seen whether this is an organic job growth in the private sector or temporary decreases due to hiring of temporary census workers. The Athens area, for BlS employment statistics includes: Athens-Clarke County … (9 comments)

Should We Respond to NAR's Call to Action on NFIP? - 06/09/10 11:27 AM
On June 7 I received an email from the Georgia Association of Realtors with an urgent request that I respond to NAR's call to action regarding reauthorizing the National Flood Insurance Program which is currently expired. After reading the request my first, and current, response is WHY!
Is it good policy to renew NFIP? Is it a good use of taxpayer money?
According to NAR it is, but that may be more looking after self-interest rather than best interests of the country as a whole. Yes, there are transactions that are now on hold because of inability to get flood insurance. … (18 comments)
