business advice: It's Okay To Be A Little Cocky - 04/03/11 07:55 PM
It's Okay To Be A Little CockyThis headline serves as a business eye opener. Truly, It’s Okay To Be  A Little Cocky. This comes after a round of watching sports this weekend which led to this intellectual debate. It’s Okay To Be  A Little Cocky when it could mean the difference in selling yourself. The careful line we tread is, when does it become overkill? In Real Estate one must be able to first sell themselves when it comes to being a listing agent. If you do not know what your true skills and talents are then you certainly will not … (7 comments)

Four Reasons Why Email and Text Are A Communication DreamEmail, texts, chats, instant messaging, pings....the list goes on and on. Technology abounds. Some are quicker than others to jump on the technology bandwagon. I hear complaints from people who say that they want to speak to live people. They don’t want to receive an email or a text. Here’s why I have learned and come to embrace each of these valuable modes of communication. There are times when an email or a text just won’t do for providing an adequate explanation or for providing the emotional support that may be needed. There’s … (30 comments)

business advice: Business Systems: Your Migraine May Be Costing You Valuable Business - 01/08/11 06:04 AM
Anyone who has ever worked in Real Estate or been an entrepreneur knows that at times you are going more than 100 miles per hour. The ability to communicate with the agent on the other side of a transaction can be crucial. Short sales are no exception to this rule. Communicating with an agent today can be the life or death of a transaction. Recently I had an experience in which it appeared that the selling agent had disappeared completely. The bank wanted to know the status of the buyer and try as I might, I could not locate the agent. This … (4 comments)

business advice: The Art of Negotiation...It Starts With A Letter To Santa - 12/18/10 07:26 AM
If you stop and think about it, we have been negotiating all of our lives. But when did you engage in your first offer that turned into a negotiation? As I read my seven year old daughter’s Christmas postcard to Santa, I realized that my little negotiator was at work. The postcard read:So as I read the postcard, first of all I realized that I am thankful for all that we are blessed with in my household. We, like most of the Nation have had to tighten our belt and pair down substantially. Thankfully, we have been fortunate that with a nip … (6 comments)

business advice: Who Is Your Audience? - 10/30/10 10:16 AM
Being the the House of God is sure to bring revelation and inspired thoughts. After recently being invited to attend a play at a church, the thought of “Who Is Your Audience?” hit me. The play was being put on by a church that caters to gang members and those who have or are suffering from alcohol/drug addictions. As I arrived at the church that evening I took a very DEEP breath. The crowd did not look like a crowd that I would normally hang out with. Oh most were definitely dressed in stereotypical “gang attire.” My word! What have I … (4 comments)

business advice: Don't Make Yourself Look "Common" - 09/04/10 01:36 PM
Don't Make Yourself Look "Common."  Any girl who grew up in my family has heard this phrase more than once, uttered by the Matriarchs that ruled the roost. As a teenager, I was annoyed every time I heard this phrase. Well for one thing, I was annoyed because it was typically the way they told me that I could not do something. If I wanted to go to the school dance two weeks in a row, I would hear this phrase. I thought of this as my emails began buzzing this morning. There are several professionals who send out emails relentlessly. … (5 comments)

business advice: Positive Influences Shaping Lives...We All Need Role Models - 08/25/10 11:20 PM
Today, I was lucky enough to ditch work a little early for a family field trip of sorts. We went to visit Andre Birotte Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. Quite some time ago upon his appointment to the position, he extended an invitation to our family to come visit and tour the Federal Court House. Since school is about to start again, we figured what a great way to cap off the summer vacation.
Despite his high profile position and busy work load, U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte, Jr. could not have been more ingratiating  and truly … (0 comments)

business advice: Don't Pick Up The Phone If You Are Too Busy To Talk - 08/19/10 06:52 PM
Don't Pick Up The Phone If You Are Too Busy To Talk Agents have a poor reputation often times for not being available or not picking up the phone. While there may be some truth to this, I think it is equally as important for agents NOT to pick up the phone if they truly are unavailable to speak. I called an agent this week to speak about an issue with a transaction. As soon as I identified myself, he cut me off and said how busy he was. He further states that he is in the middle of another project … (6 comments)

business advice: Why Sabotage and Cynicism Are the Devil's Playground..But They Only Serve To Inspire Me - 08/06/10 08:44 PM
Why Sabotage and Cynicism Are the Devil's Playground..But They Only Serve To Inspire Me We are all motivated in different ways. Most people believe that sabotage and cynicism will undercut a person's efforts. In many cases this serves to be the case. Ah yes, but not so for me. For you see, sabotage and cynicism are the devil's playground..but they only serve to inspire me. Interestingly enough, this has always been the case. Real Estate just happens to be one of those professions where there is plenty of mudslinging, sabotage and cynicism to go around. It still confuses me a little. … (2 comments)

business advice: California Realtors...DRE is Watching You! - 07/30/10 09:48 PM
California Realtors...DRE is Watching You! It's our equivalent of Big Brother in the Real Estate world and yes they are watching. The Department of Real Estate (DRE) is on the lookout.  DRE just revoked a record number of licenses for cause for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2010. They also accepted a record number of surrenders facing disciplinary action. This impacted 886 licensees. Word to the wise, do the right thing! Do the right thing not only because DRE is watching but BECAUSE it is the right thing to do. Don't become a statistic. For the full story go to … (3 comments)

business advice: Where Are The Humans In This Place? I Liked It The Old Way! - 07/18/10 09:27 AM
Where Are The Humans In This Place? I Liked It The Old Way!

For the many Realtors that continue to resist change and refuse to embrace technology, a mere glimpse at everyday life should be enough evidence of the permanent changes taking place. Technology surrounds us and will only continue to forge its way into each and every person's world...like it or not.
