Sarasota Chalk Festival Returns Tueday, November 1 to Monday, November 7 - 10/27/11 11:14 AM
Sarasota Chalk Festival Returns Tuesday, November 1 to Monday, November 7. One of the most beautiful, creative and awe-inspiring art events of the year, the Sarasota Chalk Festival (also known as Avenida de Colores) returns to Sarasota next week. This much anticipated festival has evolved in a few short years to become one of, if not the, most important street art festivals in the world. "We really do have the most renowned artists in the world attending in one location for the first time ever in history. That's quite noteworthy, not only for Sarasota, but internationally." said festival founder Denise Kowal. (2 comments)
What The Heck Is A Heckem? Oh, It's A Reverse Mortgage! - 10/25/11 11:10 AM
What the heck is a Heckem? Oh, It's a reverse mortgage! Actually it is referred to as a Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM). I have to admit I had little knowledge of Reverse Mortgages, and up until recently I had a very queasy feeling about them. The whole idea just seemed to reek of milking money from seniors. However, the other week while obtaining my SRES designation (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) I became a believer. In the U.S. over 80 percent of the population over 50 years of age are homeowners. For many of them, their home is their largest asset, (1 comments)
Discover classic Sarasota in Indian Beach and Sapphire Shores. For most local residents, Indian Beach begins at Whitaker Bayou and traveling north on Bayshore Boulevard ends at Sapphire Shores and the Ringling Museum. What you will notice above all are the beautiful trees; towering oaks everywhere dripping with Spanish Moss and providing neighborhood charm hard to find in newer neighborhoods. Along the way you will also notice beautiful vistas of Sarasota Bay. This classic Sarasota community is situated just north of downtown Sarasota nestled between the bay and U.S. 41. From one end of the neighborhood to the other you will (2 comments)
Sarasota home sales for September beat last September! The Sarasota real estate market continues to be solid in September with 570 sales, compared to 547 in September of 2010 and 601 in August of this year. Historically, the fall market is slower and isn't expected to pick up until our local season begins when seasonal homeowners and visitors cause a swell in local population and activity. The Sarasota real estate market is definitely making positive news this year. Recently, Realtor Magazine Daily News reported that of the top 15 cities showing year-over-year increases in list prices, 10 are in Florida. The (0 comments)

THE THIRD WAVE: Look Who's Going Into Foreclosure NOW!!! - 10/07/11 11:29 AM
This is a very astute blog on the current state of the foreclosure crisis and makes for very good reading, if you can handle it. Via Paula I Hathaway, SVP (Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate): THE THIRD WAVE: Look who is going into foreclosure NOW!!! There is going to be a Congressional hearing in the next day or so to evaluate the results of TARP on financial institutions and on the housing market...wonder what they will find out?---and what they will tell us??? I have heard rumors that some of the banks used their funds that were designated to help out the homeowners, to (2 comments)
As Foreclosures Ramp Up, Bank Fraud Ramps Up Higher! Where Will This End? - 10/04/11 04:30 PM
Whatever this means for the state of our housing market, it is not good. Since the robosigning scandal of last fall, most banks put the brakes on new foreclosure csaes. It was time to re-assess, re-groug and re-scheme. This lull in the foreclosure bonanza resulted in fewer bank-owned homes coming on the market, leading to leaner inventories and stronger demand. It has been good for REALTORS and sellers. Even short sales began to move along somewhat quicker, it appears the banks have been more amenable to a short sale when a foreclosure appears harder to accomplish. In the last month there have been reports that the (0 comments)
