central oregon real estate: Cool idea for building...check it out. - 05/23/07 10:08 AM
A friend was over the other day and we got talking about about used shipping cargo containers.
Most often, the container arrives at its destination and is of no further use. Although many businesses use them as storage, there is another great use for them and it's building homes. The benefits are wonderful and innovative and the idea is being introduced around the country.
Excerpt from Carol Lloyd, SFGate.com article-
"In this era of scouring the earth for the magic bullet in home building, few ideas can compete with the weird, pragmatic beauty of the used shipping container. Cheap, strong and easily transportable by boat, truck or train, … (10 comments)

central oregon real estate: MUST DO's before showing your home - 04/13/07 07:25 PM
There is nothing worse than going to an open house or on tour to find dirty dishes, unflushed toilets, or unsightly laundry in a house that is "FOR SALE". This has happened to me many times and it never ceases to amaze me. In the spirit of spring cleaning, here is the short list of things sellers should do before having ANYONE walk through their home.

1.  Remove unsightly clutter off tables and counter-tops
2.  Vacuum carpet area and sweep linoleum, hardwood and tiled floors.
3.  Flush all toilets and make sure there is toilet paper, soap and hand towel available (just in case) a client, buyer or Realtor … (23 comments)

Measure 37 showed up again in the news today with an update about Crook County.

The main change is that property owners who want to develop their land under a Measure 37 claim will now be required to obtain both county and state waivers before proceeding. Before, the county could approve claims even if the state had not yet waived the land use laws on the property. Measure 37 watchers have … (4 comments)

central oregon real estate: Thinking about buying a home in a year or two? Check your credit now. - 03/28/07 11:54 AM

ARE YOU THINKING OF BUYING A HOME IN A YEAR OR TWO? CHECK YOUR CREDIT NOW.
Many of us are aware of the pitfalls of credit. Unfortunately for some, they only become aware of their credit issues when they go to apply for a loan. Don't let this happen to you. Your credit and what's reported regarding it has become as much of a factor in obtaining a loan as your job, income and ability to repay. It will also stay with you for years.
The old saying that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" sure applies here. With that in mind, my personal recommendations are as … (14 comments)

central oregon real estate: Checklist for Buyer Loan Application - 03/27/07 11:14 PM
So, you want to buy a home. The media says it's a buyer's market and you're starting to see prices in your range. Where do you start?
If you're planning on financing your purchase, the first step is finding out how much buying power you have. This is also known as a pre-approval and it is supplied from a mortgage lender or bank. Many sellers will require this letter of pre-approval to be submitted with any offer. In a buyer's market, this can be the difference between your offer or someone else's  being accepted.
Now more than ever, buyers need to take the extra steps to … (4 comments)

central oregon real estate: The beauty of Bend, Oregon..A special place to call home. - 03/19/07 01:48 PM
This is a picture of Mt. Bachelor. I took this along with several other photos this weekend while out with my girls. My initial reason was to have more photos to use in my posts as well as for Localism.com. I found that once I was out shooting, I found a new reason. A reminder, so to speak.
While taking these breathtaking photos, I remembered why I moved to Central Oregon. I revisited that feeling of being surrounded by absolute beauty and tranquility. I looked around my city and realized again how very much I love this place. From the amazing … (4 comments)

Passed in 2004, Measure 37 has brought local and national attention to Oregon. For those of you not familiar with Measure 37 and the controversy surrounding it, the Oregon November 2, 2004 Voter's Pamphlet describes it as follows:
