Black Friday Shoppers are out in Destin, FL - 11/28/08 03:01 PM
Are these people nuts? Not sure what you did last evening, but here in Destin, FL shoppers were lined up before midnight just waiting to get into the stores for the mad rush for shopping. I prefer to miss all of that and shop online. What did you do? Were you in the madness? I drove by the Silver Sands Factory Outlet today on my way to lunch and there was not a parking space to be found. Looks like the economy at least here in Destin is flourishing. Hope you had a nice holiday! Kelly

Walton County Sherrif gets Arrested for DUI - 11/25/08 10:33 AM
I just read a news article about a sherrif in Walton County, Florida who was arrested for a DUI going 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was arrested by another co-worker when he was pulled over and he refused to take the breathilizer test. I was out last night as well and had two glasses of wine and several glasses of water and two cups of coffee because I knew I had to drive home. This was over a period of about four hours with a full meal involved too. I know that the local police force has a

Biking on 30A - 11/24/08 08:38 AM
Yesterday I joined friends for a bike ride along Hwy. 30A. What fun. Highway 30A is a scenic 19 mile stretch of bike trails and old Florida atmosphere. Height limits on Hwy. 30A are 50 feet and it is so nice not to have to worry about high density and high rises here. It is very scenic with lots of coastal dune lakes and lazily follows the Gulf of Mexico in the Panhandle. If you have never been here, you ought to make it a priority of places in the U.S. to visit. It is breath taking. We stopped at the Red

Had to turn the heat on - 11/22/08 02:00 PM
Okay, I live in Florida. Yes, the Panhandle. Last night I had to turn the heat on for about an hour just to get the chill out of the place. I had to wear winter gloves and a headband with a turtleneck and sweatpants this morning for my walk with the dogs. It was chilly. I like the cooler weather. I am not complaining. It is fun to take out different clothes other than t-shirts and shorts all of the time. Today the sun is out and the sky is crystal clear. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is not

Will you be busy over Thanksgiving? - 11/20/08 07:27 PM
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of all of the holidays. No expectations, just pure out and out thanks and gratitude for all that we have. No time to think about what we don't have. There are so many others with less. I start my day with a gratitude walk daily. I thank my lucky stars for my eyesight, breathing, legs that hold me uprights, two dogs that are my angels, etc. etc. I could go on and on, but you see I have so much to be thankful for. I think that is the meaning of Thanksgiving. It is to give

Let's Write a Book - 11/20/08 08:59 AM
Okay, here you go. Grab a book, any book, no the closest book (not the Bible) but a Novel near you. Go to page 66 of the book and type the fifth line below. Let's see what type of book we can write together. Okay, I will start. "When I got home a few minutes later, Jenny came out to meet us, and Marley tumbled out of the car to greet her." Have fun and keep writing. It could be a best seller. Kelly Klein Santa Rosa Beach FL Homes For Sale Are you looking to buy one of

Destin's Sinfonia Won't Refund My Money - 11/20/08 08:33 AM
I recently bought tickets to see Natalie Cole at the Ft. Walton Beach convention center and Natalie was sick so they replaced her with Roberta Flack. Roberta is fine, but I really wanted to see Natalie Cole. I called immediately and was told by an employee of Sinfonia that I would be given a refund. Well, that was over a month ago. I am still waiting to see my refund for four tickets $305 dollars. Nothing. So I began calling them this week every day. You get a nice recording saying they are busy or on the other line so please

Santa Stolen in Shalimar near Ft. Walton Beach, FL - 11/20/08 07:43 AM
In Fort Walton Beach there was a very heavy statue of Santa stolen on Friday night from a family's front porch. This Santa was first discovered to be stolen by the Granddaughter of the owners who spotted it missing first. A local police officer did see a Jeep Cherokee with a Santa strapped to the top of it going north towards Crestview on the night it was stolen. The search is now on for the stolen Santa and the family just wants it back. It had to take two people in the kidnapping because this Santa weighed a lot. Solid concrete

Pets are new GREEN Heat - 11/19/08 08:38 AM
Aren't pets just wonderful? It got down in the 50s here at the beach last night. I do not run my heat because I have the two best heaters in the world. Meet Haley. She was a rescue from Goose Creek, SC. She is part character, part human, part Llaso Apso and part Dashound. She is so sweet and warm too! Meet her sister Missy another rescue who is part human, part toy poodle, and part Shitzu. I think more people should buy heaters like the two above. They give off wonderful heat in the evenings. They are warm

Waiting is the hard part - 11/18/08 05:28 PM
Hi All, Okay, here I sit waiting for a response to an offer that I submitted on behalf of my buyers. It expires at 6 p.m. which is only 28 more minutes. The agent told me he was presenting it at 5 p.m. this evening. It is the waiting that is the difficult part, don't you agree? I am nervous as the buyers are. They really want this home. I am hopeful I will have good news to deliver to the buyers this evening. Waiting . . . . . . . . . . . . The most comprehensive Real

Panama City man gets more than two years for having two wives - 11/18/08 08:37 AM
I don't know about you, but this is taking it a little far. Florida just passed the definition of marriage recently during the last election and the citizens of Florida decided that it is basically defined as one woman and one man. Well, it seems that a local Panama City man had two wives. Bigamy is a third degree felony in Florida and he got caught. The man who got caught is 70 years old and had lied to his second wife. He told her that his first wife had died which was untrue. Now he is looking at 27 months in jail without

Do you pick up pennies? - 11/18/08 06:45 AM
I am asking today, "Do you pick up pennies?". I find myself thrilled at the chance to pick up a lost penny. I always stop and pick them up. Do you? I worked with a customer of mine recently who laughed at me for pickiing up pennies. He told me that he hated pennies and frequently throws them out the window of his car. I told him how thrilled I was that he did that because I must be the one who keeps finding them. I find them everywhere. They even show up on the beach with sand encrusted on them

Falling Stars - 11/17/08 08:25 PM
Have you ever seen a falling star? I see them weekly. While living in Santa Rosa Beach I have seen more falling stars than living anywhere else in the United States. I see them almost every other day. I tell people this and they don't believe me. In fact, there are many people who have never seen one falling star. They will make me smile, make me make a wish, and give me goose bumps. My hair on my arms usually stand straight up when I see one. I think it is the environment that I live in. You see Santa

Real Estate Becomes TOO HOT to Handle ~ Panama City Beach, FL - 11/17/08 08:55 AM
Okay, I work for RED HOT REALTY, but last night a real estate office in Panama City Beach belonging to Coldwell Banker burned down. What a shame for all of the Realtors out of this office. Records, contracts, possibly earnest money checks, everything gone up in a puff of smoke. This is a horrible shame and it made me think today about my own redundancy system that I use to protect my client's records. I use everything electronically via scanning and saving on my computer which is then backed up daily by a system I learned about in one of my

Unemployment hitting local market ~ Destin, FL - 11/14/08 09:42 AM
I went recently to the liquidation sale at Linen n' Things and tried to get an ice cream cone at an already closed Brusters in Destin. I had not even tried the new Royal B Restaurant and it seems they came in as fast as they left the area. I heard that Wild Birds Unlimited and Dagwood's Sandwich Shop is closing their doors too. These are all local employers in our Destin market area. It makes me wonder who will be next. Hold on for more foreclosures in the upcoming months. It may be until early of 2010 before we see

Destin Discussing Topless Bar - 11/13/08 08:19 AM
Oh boy, just what we need. Destin is discussing a topless bar and the location would be near churches, schools, and residential neighborhoods. This one is sure to become heated in more ways than one. The street is Mountain Drive. No pun intended here. This is serious. Destin has a permanent population of around 11,000 residents. Now come on now, do we really need this in our backyard? Yes, we are a beautiful spot to come to and yes in the summer months we swell (like my choice of words today?) to a population of over 1.3 million. However, we have

Disrespectul Realtors - 11/12/08 05:18 PM
I presented an offer for clients of mine two days ago with an expiration date of 5 p.m. this evening. Do you think that the Realtor could even pick up the phone to let me know anything at all? Nothing after emailing, text messages, and calling. No answer whatsoever.....I find this to be totally unprofessional and disrespectful to everyone involved in the transaction, especially my client. Your thoughts? I treat all of my clients, customers, and fellow Realtors with the respect that they deserve. I would have never done this to another in the business. There is just no excuse for rudeness.

Women Get Dolled Up for Night Out - 11/11/08 06:12 AM
Reporting from Orlando, the Women's Council of Realtors installed their 2009 President Becky Hill on Saturday night during one really big Installation Party and AfterHours Party. President Becky Hill is from Texas and Texas did not disappoint us with a party in a big way. The women at the party were all dressed up. Now this is an organization of about 16,000 members plus. We have 91% women in our organization, afterall it is a Women's Organization and then we have 9% men in the group who support our efforts of getting ahead with leadership skills. This is the best organization

Family First - 11/08/08 10:38 AM
Today with all of the bad news in the marketplace and economy, I am reminded that life is all about family. My day included a call to my youngest sister about my 7 year old nephew Jared who is suffering from a fatal disease called INAD. INAD has no cure and only about one child every ten years is born with it. Slowly it is taking my nephew's body functions one part at a time. It is a horrific disease. Jared is in the hospital today slowly taking what could be his last breaths of air. His condition has gotten worse

Author Jon Gordon - Stop Complaining ! - 11/07/08 07:37 AM
I had the privelege of listening to Jon Gordon yesterday at the Women's Council of Realtors convention in Orlando. Jon is a best selling author. Basically, stop complaining unless you have a solution to whatever it is you are complaining about. Great message delivered with personal stories that came alive in my mind as he delivered his speach. If you get a chance to buy any of his books, they are quick easy reads and the messages are powerful. Here is this year's National President Ann DeFries with Jon Gordon. If you want to see a funny website -- go to

Housing after the Election - 11/07/08 07:30 AM
How are the recent elections affecting the market in Destin? They have had no impact yet. I say yet, because I do believe that after President Elect Barack Obama takes office that we will see some swift movement in the housing market. Changes to rates, programs, etc. to help the existing home buyers stay in their homes and avoid foreclosure and also lower home mortgage rates which are needed to spur the economy and home buying again. With the ease of credit in a free flowing market, things will get better. It is a great time to buy right now if

Row Row Your Boat with one Good Team at NAR and WCR 2008 Orlando - 11/06/08 10:09 PM
Okay I have to admit, I am having a lot of fun in Orlando. No I have not been to Seaworld or Disney World. Why would I want to miss any of the activities or fun with the Women's Council of Realtors? Today was no different. We got to hear author Jon Gordon speak to us on his book The Energy Bus and his next book Stop Complaining. Jon was fun, cute, and motivational. The positive energy in the room kept making the microphone pop. No kidding. This guy is electrifying. Anyway, where else can you get competing women Realtors together

Black Bra Found in Parking Lot in Orlando at NAR - 11/06/08 08:07 AM
I am in Orlando staying at the Residence Inn today. I am in town for the National Association of Realtors convention which lasts through next Monday. Today there are classes for the Women's Counci of Realtors and Guest Speaker Jon Gordon, author of the Energy Bus is schedule at 2:45 p.m. I am really looking forward to hearing him speak today. On my way to the car this morning I found a black bra in the parking lot. From what I can tell this Realtor who is missing this bra is probably a double D size. Call me if you may

Vote Today - 11/04/08 06:06 AM
Voters in South Walton County in Santa Rosa Beach are coming out in numbers to vote this year. About 50% of all eligible voters have already cast a vote. The longest wait in the county so far has been about 20 minutes as the election officials have done a good job in opening numerous election polls around the county and properly staffing them. In Niceville today, Democrats will be gathering to wave signs along the John Sims Parkway in support of Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama. I personally voted weeks ago in favor of my own candidate and will be watching

The Florida Marriage Amendment 2 - 11/01/08 09:19 AM
Amendment 2 is on the ballot in Florida and Amendment 8 in California. It seems even though there is supposed to be separation of church and state, once again the churches are forcing the issue of defining marriage as one man and one woman. In fact, the theologians even claim to put flyers in their Sunday worship service. By the way, this is a crime. The churches can be fined for telling their congregations how to vote and should be fined. This religious ceremony created by the churches and a man made philosphy to begin with should be an optional ceremony.
