Thinking of Doing Your Own Property Management - 02/25/11 11:37 PM
I have been on both sides of property management. I’ve been a renter on and off for the past 10 years, and a homeowner in those off years. I’ve worked for property management companies, and I’ve managed a property of my own. There is very little that surprises me anymore about owners, management companies, or renters. About once a year I hear of something that lifts my eyebrow.
Recently, my husband’s company once again is having us move. We were living in Colorado Springs, and we needed to live someplace temporarily before the cross-country move coming up in two-three months. The … (2 comments)

Thinking of Remodeling - 02/23/11 09:45 AM
As you begin thinking of remodeling your home, are you considering green remodeling options? There are seven basic ideas you may or may not have considered yet in relation to green remodeling.
1. Put energy efficienty at the top of your list. Weather stripping and caulking around windows and doors, replace old appliances and/or old heating and cooling equipment (and making sure all connections are tight), consider new windows with high-performance glazing, and improve the insulation in ceilings, floors and walls.
2. If you aren’t planning to Do-It-Yourself, ask for what you want when interviewing architects, designers, or contractors. Energy efficiency … (1 comments)

Gardening in Colorado Springs - 02/17/11 08:36 PM
With warm temperatures here in Colorado Springs gardening comes to mind.  Colorado Springs has an incredible community garden program that offers land to have a neighborhood garden.  There are currently two garden communities in Colorado Springs and they have a waiting list but now is a great time to get your name on the list.   Bear Creek Garden Association is on 21st and Rio Grande.  Here, there are plots  20 x 40 in size and only organic gardening is permissible.  On the Northeast side of Colorado Springs sits the Old Farm Community Gardens.  Smaller in size, plots here are 20 … (0 comments)

Colorado Springs Dog Park - 02/16/11 09:37 PM
Moving to Colorado Springs with animals?  One important question might be, where are the dog parks?  Colorado Springs is fortunate to have seven different parks spread out across town and they each have their own "flavor" so to speak.  Bear Creek Dog Park located on the Southwest side of town off of 21st street is hugely popular by people and dogs because it is fenced, has a stream for dogs to jump & play in, has groomed trails, pop bags for you to take and trash bins located along the trail in multiple locations when you need them.

Broadmoor Golf Course Townhouse for Sale - 02/16/11 09:14 PM
Rarely found on the market this Broadmoor townhouse sits overlooking the Broadmoor South Golf Course in two directions.

As you drive down the street you find yourself at the end of the road with only the Broadmoor South Clubhouse in the distance.

Walking into the front door and split staircase frames the living room with floor to ceiling windows & a gorgeous fireplace along one wall.  Off to the left is a study with a built in floor to ceiling bookshelf complete with ladder.  The study also has a private patio and has access to the main … (0 comments)

Colorado Outdoor Rooms - 02/14/11 03:46 PM
Outdoor Room
Outdoor rooms are becoming more and more popular. In Colorado where we have over 300 sunny days, and moderate temperatures year-round, it’s no wonder we want to enjoy our outdoor space with a living room comfort.
With a touch of spring this weekend and early this week, many of us are thinking Spring! Now is the time to be thinking about your gardens and planning your outdoor space. Architects and Interior Designers recommend following the same architectural language as the home itself. Have a focal point such as a fire or water element, then plan your seating around that.

Best Colorado BBQ - 02/12/11 08:56 PM
After a ranch closing in Fairplay we took off for a quick lunch, a celebration of sorts, and to grab a bite to each before heading off to look at a ranch on the way back toward Colorado Springs.  The title company we had the closing at referred us to a local restaurant but after finding it closed we were back on the road.  In route, we passed a small building, almost a house of sorts, with a BBQ sign out front.  Having a Texan in the car and thinking "BBQ in Colorado" did not seem to make a lot of … (9 comments)

Colorado Springs Cooking Class - 02/12/11 08:27 PM
Williams Sonoma located on the Northeast side of Colorado Springs offers inspiring classes & a fun filled way to explore recipes, cooking, techniques & tools.   This morning I went to a curry cooking class. It was fun to watch & learn as Cheri, our cooking instructor, created a great meal of curry & side dishes for our sampling pleasure.

Colorado Springs Cooking Class
The classes are perfect because they are not too long and very casual in set-up and participation. The cooking area in the store is set up for a large group to easily see the instructor cooking … (0 comments)

Larkspur Colorado Lifestyle - 02/10/11 07:07 PM

West of I-25, South of Castle Rock, and North of Monument, there is a wonderful little town worth knowing about. It’s Larkspur, Colorado. Hidden away from the busy I-25 traffic, by rolling hills, towering pines, and babbling creeks are houses, ranches, and buildable land for the family that needs to be situated in between Colorado Springs and Denver.
Yes, it is possible to have it all here. One subdivision where you can rub elbows with local celebs and your average working joe is Sage Port. Located off of Perry Park Ave and Quartz Mountain Drive. Here homes range from the … (0 comments)

Northeast Colorado Springs Home for Sale Near Cottonwood Creek Park - 02/08/11 12:12 PM
I am consistently intrigued by first impressions and how easily and quickly they are formed.  This house is a great example of walking in the front door gives you a feeling of "good".  That warm feeling could be, the huge windows in the living room bringing in lots of light;  the curved ceiling delineating the living room & dining room; or the huge kitchen with breakfast bar and plenty of counter space for rolling out cookie dough.

Cabinet space, pantry, pot rock, breakfast nook & open to the family room are a few of the features … (0 comments)

Recovery from Winter House Blah's - 02/03/11 09:29 PM
Does your house have a case of the winter blahs? The holiday decorations are down (hopefully), and it’s a little early to put out spring decorations, so what can you do to bring in color and turn blah to beautiful?
1. Think of your favorite colors. Greens can lift spirits on a gray winter day. Yellows make people happy. If you’re feeling a little seasonal depression, consider adding yellow pillows to your couch, a yellow picture frame to a desk, or some warm yellow towels for your bathroom. Pinks and reds evoke passion and love. These are great colors to add to … (2 comments)

Valentine Colorado Trip Ideas - 02/03/11 09:27 PM
Valentine’s Day is a mere two weeks away. What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Do you need some ideas for a romantic locale to whisk your sweetie away to?
1. For the outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you are looking for a day trip or an over-nighter, consider hitting the slopes with your snow bunny. Slalom down the trails together, sip wine apres ski, dine like royalty, and snuggle in front of a warm fire back in your room. February is  a great time for a ski vacation. The X-Games are over, kids are back in school, the snow is good (it’s … (0 comments)
