arlington: ARLINGTON PARKS - 07/25/13 04:50 AM
Another great feature of Arlington is our parks. We are very fortunate to have over 1,100 acres of parks and open spaces. Each park and open space location has it's own unique setting with a variety of features and amenities.

Some of my favorites are:

Bon Air Memorial Rose Garden Park. It’s a 23 acre park known for it’s beautiful memorial rose garden.

Next to Bon Aire Park is Bluemont Park which has something for everyone. With 70 acres of land, there is plenty of space for biking, jogging, hiking, basketball, ultimate frisbee, baseball, tennis, volleyball, a playground, … (0 comments)

arlington: Ticketing Kids in Arlington? - 07/24/13 06:22 AM
Did you know that this summer kids all around the Arlington area are being given tickets by Arlington County Police officers? That’s right. But instead of these tickets being given for bad behavior, they are actually being handed out for good behavior.

In conjunction with the 7-11 stores in a program entitled “Operation Chill,” coupons (tickets) for free slurpees are being awarded to kids who are spotted doing spontaneous good deeds. Examples of good deeds include helping another person, wearing a bicycle helmet, picking up trash or participating in other positive community activities.

The next time I see the … (0 comments)

arlington: Local Arlington Development News from an Eco Broker - 01/31/13 05:09 AM
Everyone in Arlington seems to be talking about about what's happing at the corner of Washington Boulevard and N. George Mason Dr. in the Waycroft-Woodlawn neighborhood. Suddenly, what used to be undeveloped, wooded land, has been taken over by an excavating crew. This has resulted in the removal of 150 trees.
In an eco-conscious County like ours, many Arlingtontonians are left wondering how our government could let such a thing happen? Well, it turns out that the land is privately owned. The property will be divided into nine residential lots, creating a new susbdivision.
As for the trees? Under the Chesapeake Bay … (0 comments)

arlington: Columbia Pike Streetcar - 12/21/12 02:56 AM
As many of you know, Arlington County approved the Columbia Pike Streetcar project earlier this year. The next step is determining the design of the streetcar, which is just what the County Board is contemplating now.

The Board is considering the following criteria: width, length, layout and emergency power capacity. The length and width of the street car will affect the capacity of riders which can range from 92-231 per car. This gives streetcars the advantage of carrying three times as many riders as a bus.

The Columbia Pike Streetcar is expected to start running as early as 2016.

arlington: The Fall Market is Underway - Or is it? - 09/17/12 05:41 AM
Is it time - or not?!
We approach the first official day of Fall, and our buyers - and I as their agent (Because I want to do a great job for them by finding their home of choice soon.) have been watching the season's inventory come on the market. Slowly. Will more come?
After months of summer slumber at the beach, in the mountains or in their backyard with a lemonade in hand and steaks on the barbie, have homeowners who've been considering putting their homes on the market done more serious thinking - and will they pull the trigger … (2 comments)

arlington: Why hire local expert to sell your home in Arlington? - 04/04/12 08:18 AM
Why hire a local expert to sell your home in Arlington?
In this three-part series, we will look at why it pays to hire a Realtor, who's a local expert in Arlington, to market and sell your home.
What's a local expert and why are they indispensible?
1) First and foremost, the agent lives in Arlington and has for many years. And they market themselves as a local expert because they undertand - and put into action in their marketing strategy - their status as an agent who knows the area best.
Why is knowing the area by living in it … (3 comments)

arlington: Five Ways to Rate a Lender - 11/16/11 02:39 PM
Of course, rates will be... No 1:
1. Rates: Ask both what the interest rate is and also what the annual percentage rate (APR) of the loan is. Remember that the lowest interest rate is not necessarily the very best loan - there can be hidden costs and fees that can really make your the true cost of your loan higher.
2. Points, Fees, oh my. A point is 1% of the loan. That can be a lot of money!Remember that discount points are tax deductible by the purchaser - even if the seller paid the points.
3. Timing. Pay attention to … (3 comments)

arlington: Got Children? Strategies to Ease Their - and Your - Move - 11/16/11 05:55 AM
It's important to focus on your children when you undertake the move to a new home. Kids require emotional support during this time of transition. I offer these strategies:
1. Be very upbeat about the process - and get them excited in some way. Maybe it's the new swing set that you have promised them for the new - and larger - yard. Listen to and address any concerns they have about moving.
2. Explain the process- the ABC's. In a simple way, explain to them what the move entails. Show them the new home and the area it is in … (0 comments)

arlington: Beet Juice on the Winter Weather! Ken Courtade, Keller Williams Realty, Arlington, Va - 12/05/07 02:36 PM
Going Green (or is it red) on the frozen streets? You bet!
I am fortunate to be doing my civil duty as a court juror.  As I was leaving the courthouse today, a county employe and I commented on the fact there must be something other than salt to help with icy sidewalks. Voilla! Tonight, one of our local news stations reported that the DC government will be using beet juice to help with winter street conditions. Excellent!
I believe this is one more confirmation that there is/might always be a means of problem-solving using non-environment-harming products.  We can make our lives better without harming our environment - … (2 comments)

At the same time, when comparing areas along the Orange Line in Northern Virginia, I believe nothing comes close to the coziness and value! arlington: Flee Fleas - PLEASE! Green Tip of the Day! Ken Courtade, Keller Williams, Arlington - 11/07/07 04:56 AM
Flee Fleas! If your furry friend has a case of the fleas, try a less-toxic method of flea control such as ANTidote or Bio Flea Halt. If fleas have already invaded your home, applying Borax to the carpet is a fairly low-risk way to kill them off. (But be careful, Borax can be an eye irritant and should not be ingested in large amounts by your pet.) Or replace the chemical flea dip with this natural recipe from Care2: Cut up four lemons and simmer for about an hour in one quart of water, adding more water if necessary. Cool and strain the … (0 comments)

Some studies suggestthat Methylisothiazoline (Mit), a chemical found in many name-brand shampoos, may be linked to neurological damage.
