REALTORS DON'T GET SICK DAYS... - 02/23/10 03:30 PM
"Ewwww," said my doctor as she looked at the back of my throat yesterday morning.
Swollen and filled with white spots, my throat certainly wasn't attractive.  I had, however, expected a different response from my doctor.
"Yep.  You've got strep," she concluded...
Strep throat sucks.  I used to get it as a kid, but it has probably been 20 years since I have had it.
Today is day four of misery...

Realtors don't get sick days.
They don't.  At least I dont.

"Don't give up on me!" - 02/12/10 10:53 AM
"Don't give up on me," asked my friend over the phone.  We were talking a few weeks back.
He has been keeping his eyes on the real estate market in Lisle for the last few years.  He is hoping to move into a bigger place, but there are some issues...
Issue #1 is selling his current house at the right price to make it all happen.  We are not sure it can happen right now...
"Don't give up on me," he asked again before we got off the phone.
"I won't," I answered.
I never give up on anyone.

"I will never ask you to buy a house..." - 02/11/10 11:07 PM
"I will never ask you to buy a house," I said to a young couple the other day.  They were my new buyers looking for a condo in Lincoln Park, Chicago...
I received a confused stare followed by a look of calm understanding...
This is the reaction I get from most of my buyers.
I will never ask you to buy a house.
I won't.
I love saying that to my buyers.  It puts them at ease...

My sales training came from some of the top salesman in the world.  Stockbrokers...

Are you still "Getting ready to get ready?" Time is wasting... - 02/09/10 09:53 AM
I just read Bob Haywood's featured post on Active Rain titled, "How to research a neighborhood or subdivision for a blog."
The post is a series of steps Bob uses BEFORE writing a market report for a neighborhood.
Honestly, it seems like a ridiculous amount of work...
By the time one is done "researching" a neighborhood, I have written 10 market reports and they are generating leads...
Real estate is a numbers game.  Don't forget it.
Get out there and do.  I don't care what it is that you do.  Just do it...
Research?  Research is usually a stall tactic.  An excuse for inaction.

6 Simple Steps to Building Your Real Estate Business Online - 02/07/10 12:49 PM
I recently wrote a post titled "Cold calling works.  But there are other ways..."
Since writing that post, I have been contacted by other agents asking...
"What are some other ways?"
Thanks for asking.  Here is one:
Create a series market reports for your area and post them online
It works...
I made a goal in January to begin writing more market reports.  I ended up writing 33 reports for neighborhoods in and around Naperville.
In the last month, I have been contacted by 5 people considering buying or selling that found me from these reports.
5 solid prospects.  Prospects that contacted me.  Prospects … (41 comments)

"IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE..." - 02/05/10 05:30 PM
"It wasn't meant to be," said my client this afternoon shortly before we hung up the phone...
He called to see a new listing here in Naperville.  A cute Cape Cod in Naperville's Historic District.  It was new to the market...
The home had come under contract after just two days.
"It wasn't meant to be," emailed a different customer this afternoon.  We had seen a beautiful home in Elmhurst this morning.  New construction.  Quiet street.  Close to work...
The home already had three offers and the sellers had accepted one.
"It wasn't meant to be," said another customer the other day...
We had just been outbid on a home in … (14 comments)

COLD CALLING WORKS. BUT THERE ARE OTHER WAYS... - 02/05/10 03:13 PM
You can build your real estate business cold calling.  You can.  There is no doubt about it...
If you dial the phone long enough, someone will eventually buy or sell a home with you.
But there are other ways...
I read a post this afternoon written by Richard Glick.  The post was titled "Prospecting".
The post is really a question of which way is "the right way" to build a real estate business...
Cold calls?  Or something else...
My answer to Richard's question was this:
"Find what works for you.  Yes, cold calling will work.  But you have to keep at it...
If you hate cold calling, … (25 comments)

DEAR MARK ZUCKERBERG: WHY IS IT SO DARN EASY TO DELETE A FACEBOOK BUSINESS PAGE? - 02/03/10 03:20 PM
Dear Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of facebook):
Thanks for creating facebook.  I am a big fan...
I created my facebook profile in September of 2008, and I started my facebook business page in May of 2009...
I have enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new ones on facebook...
My brand, Ken Tracy Real Estate, has grown tremendously over the last 8 months using facebook to promote it's business.
With this in mind, Mark, why is it so darn easy to delete a facebook business page?
I just got an email from a friend of mine, Yuno Marioni, a Realtor up in Washington state...
She has … (5 comments)

ARE YOU PLAYING TO YOUR STRENGTHS? YOUR SUCCESS AS A REAL ESTATE AGENT MAY DEPEND ON IT... - 02/01/10 09:47 AM
When I first became a real estate agent, my broker was a guy that could sell ice to Eskimos...
He was high energy.  Always running around the office from appointment to appointment.  He had built his business by door knocking, cold calling, and asking for referrals.  The ABC's (always be closing) of real estate sales...
He encouraged me to take a class by legendary real estate coach Floyd Wickman.  A good class.  Old school.  I learned a lot...
But I also learned this wasn't the way I dreamed of building my business.
My broker became frustrated with me.  He saw talent.  He knew I had … (16 comments)
