open houses: This weekend (June 4th and 5th) is NAR's Open House Weekend. Are you taking part? - 06/02/11 10:00 PM
Whether you are a buyer, a seller, a REALTOR®, or just somebody that likes looking at houses, this could be a great weekend for you...
The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Open House Weekend is this weekend (June 4th and 5th).
Are you taking part?
I think it is a great opportunity to create a bit of excitement in today's real estate market.
If I were considering buying, I would be out there checking out the inventory.  Homes are on sale...
And if I were thinking of selling?  I sure would be stopping by homes in my neighborhood to check out the possible competition...

open houses: There are no "rain outs" for my open houses... - 05/14/11 02:13 PM

I am a big fan of hosting open houses.  I schedule them as often as I can....
This is a controversial issue among real estate agents.  I don't really understand.  Open houses bring exposure to me and my listings...
Sellers like them, too.  I try to keep my sellers happy...

I have an open house scheduled for this Sunday from 1-4 PM in one of my favorite neighborhoods, River Bend, Lisle...
At least I did.  My seller emailed me yesterday and canceled the open house.  She had heard the weather wasn't supposed to be very nice...
The weather forecast isn't great.  Temperatures are supposed … (10 comments)

open houses: 5 REASONS OPEN HOUSES GENERALLY DON'T SELL HOUSES - 08/28/10 07:04 PM
In my five years in the business, I have sold one home via an open house.  Not great odds, but one is better than none...
There has been much debate on Active Rain the last few days on the topic of open houses...
It seems the vast majority of real estate agents don't like hosting them.  That is fine by me.  Different strokes for different folks...
I host open houses for three reasons:
Sellers generally want them. They offer lots of marketing opportunities for myself and my listings. I will be meeting new people/prospects/neighbors. Open houses are one of my most effective marketing tools.  However, I understand … (18 comments)

open houses: OPEN HOUSES - 02/08/09 02:20 PM
I think open houses are great.  I feel the open house shows a Realtor is both active and energized.
I held one at my listing in south Naperville yesterday.  It was a beautiful day.  57 degrees and sunny.
Despite the great weather, only two groups came through, yet I was happy.
At 4:00, when I picked up my signs, I snapped a few pictures:

Thousands of cars drove by these signs.  Thousands of people saw my name and number...
They knew that I was working, that the real estate market hadn't stopped me...
When you keep working, good things happen.

open houses: MY IMPROMPTU "OPEN HOUSE" - 02/01/09 09:11 AM
What the heck...
I have a listing on Alan Road in Naperville.  It is a short sale.  Late stages.  We need an offer...
The bank has "removed" our lock box.

Apparently this is a common practice for lenders in the Chicago area.  If a home is vacant and not paying the mortgage, they do not wait to foreclose.
They take control immediately and put on a new doorknob.
Anyway, I now have to attend all showings.  Makes it very difficult.
This week, we have lowered our price to $274,900.
The house has lots of potential and is on a big lot … (30 comments)

open houses: KEN'S FEATURED HOME...THE "THANKSGIVING" HOME - 11/15/08 02:17 PM
So here I am.  It's Saturday.  1:23 PM.  November 15th.
I am at an OPEN HOUSE for my new listing.  I took the listing two weeks ago, a short sale on the south side of Naperville.
I am pleasantly surprised how nice the home looks today.  A few lit candles.  Lights are all on.  A cold cloudy November afternoon...
It feels nice.  This would be a great "Thanksgiving" home...

My spirits are high.  It has been a productive day.  I had showings this morning and an open house in the afternoon.  That is a good real estate day...
I love open houses.  I was available this afternoon, and with a vacant … (16 comments)

open houses: I LOVE OPEN HOUSES! - 04/19/08 09:52 PM
Let me tell you why:
1.  If you are a seller, are you telling me you don't want your realtor having open houses?  Of course you do.  They bring exposure to your home.  This is a good thing.  Don't let anyone tell you it is not.
2.  I put up as many personalized RE/MAX OPEN HOUSE signs as I own all over the neighborhood.  They say Ken Tracy.  They have my smiling face.  They have my phone number.  They bring exposure to me.  This is a good thing.  Don't let anyone tell you it is not.
3.  I probably will get buyer and seller … (20 comments)
