The Curtis Park Neighborhood was developed in the mid to late 1800's as a fashionable suburb with large Victorian mansions and stately homes. A short walk from Downtown, Curtis Park is Denver's oldest neighborhood. Curtis Park also includes Denver's first park. Curtis Park was donated to the city from Samuel S. Curtis, a developer of the area.In the 1960s - 70s, Curtis Park was one of Denver's poorest neighborhoods. In 1975, when a large part of the neighborhood was named to the National Register of Historic Places, a period of renovation and revitalization began. Home buyers discovered inexpensive yet exquisite historic homes in Curtis Park. After more than 40 years of operating the Phipps Mansion as a conference center, the University has listed the property for $9,200,000 and is selling the historic property as a single family residence. The Phipps Mansion, sits on 6.5 acres and includes an adjacent Tennis Pavillion. The Phipps Mansion was built by the former Senator Lawrence Phipps. The Bonnie Brae Neighborhood is a serene and quiet residential area that contains only 700 homes. There are many different types of homes in the neighborhood including brick ranches, Cape Cods, and English Tudors and more. Denver's residential real estate market is faring much better than in many other areas of the country. The $8,000 first-time home buyers tax credit is doing exactly what it was supposed to...stimulate sales. That, plus the slightly lower credit for repeat buyers along with low mortgage rates have spurred sales in the Mile High City.Residential sales sped up as 2009 progressed, and the upswing is primarily accredited to Denver's job market. Let's re-visit a little bit of history! "Snugs", were found in Ireland during the 1800's. A "snug" was a small room in a PUB or "public house" (bar) that was private and had direct access to the bartender at the bar. The folks at Argonuats Wine & Liquors were very smart when they decided to build a new building at the corner of Colfax and Clarkson. They built a lovely red brick building that fits in perfectly with the Historic Homes of Denver that surround it. The wine selection here is great no doubt! I prefer red to white and recently have been leaning towards "Old (0 comments)
