&lt;p&gt;"Homeowners are growing even more pessimistic about the potential short- and long-term values of their homes.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 40 percent of U.S. homeowners now expect their home's value to go down over the next year, the highest level of pessimism to date. Prior to the latest finding, this number ranged from a low of 19 percent to a high of 37 percent since April 2009.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Just 13 percent expect the value of their home to go up over the next year. While that shows no change from last month, it's up just two points from the all-time low reached in July. Forty-five percent (45 percent) think their house will be worth about the same amount in one year's time. &lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;When it comes to the longer term, 36 percent believe their home's value will go up during the next five years, down from 40 percent last month and just one point above the lowest level measured in over two years. This finding was over 50 percent for much of 2009 and 2010.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;Twenty-four percent (24 percent) think housing values will decrease over the next five years, up slightly from the past two months. Thirty percent (30 percent) predict that their home's value will be about the same in five years. Homeowners who make $20,000 or less annually are more likely than those who earn higher incomes to believe the value of their home will go down in one and five years.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The Rasmussen survey echoes a HomeGain National Home Values Survey released last week. HomeGain found that 47 percent of surveyed real estate professionals nationwide expect home values to decrease over the next six months;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;HomeGain also found that real estate professionals believe 75 percent of homeowners believe their homes are worth more than the recommended agent listing price. In contrast, 68 percent of home buyers believe homes are overpriced."&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Here is their news release from today:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Mortgage applications decreased 4.9 percent from one week earlier, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association&amp;rsquo;s Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending September 2, 2011.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Market Composite Index, a measure of mortgage loan application volume, decreased 4.9 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis from one week earlier. On an unadjusted basis, the Index decreased 5.3 percent compared with the previous week. The Refinance Index decreased 6.3 percent from the previous week. The seasonally adjusted Purchase Index increased 0.2 percent from one week earlier. The unadjusted Purchase Index decreased 2.1 percent compared with the previous week and was 13.5 percent lower than the same week one year ago.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&amp;ldquo;Heading into the Labor Day weekend, the 30-year rate was at its second lowest level in the history of our survey (the low point was reached last October), and the 15-year rate marked a new low in our survey,&amp;rdquo; said Mike Fratantoni, MBA&amp;rsquo;s Vice President of Research and Economics. &amp;ldquo;Despite these rates however, refinance application volume fell for the third straight week, and is more than 35 percent below levels at this time last year. Purchase application volume remains relatively flat at extremely low levels, close to lows last seen in 1996.&amp;rdquo;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The four week moving average for the seasonally adjusted Market Index is down 3.2 percent. The four week moving average is down 3.7 percent for the seasonally adjusted Purchase Index, while this average is down 3.1 percent for the Refinance Index.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The refinance share of mortgage activity decreased to 77.1 percent of total applications from 77.8 percent the previous week. The adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) share of activity remained unchanged at 7.1 percent of total applications from the previous week.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 4.23 percent from 4.32 percent, with points decreasing to 1.04 from 1.29 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent loan-to-value (LTV) ratio loans. This is the second lowest 30-year rate recorded in the survey. The effective rate also decreased from last week.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The average contract interest rate for 15-year fixed-rate mortgages decreased to 3.41 percent from 3.49 percent, with points decreasing to 0.94 from 1.00 (including the origination fee) for 80 percent LTV loans. This is the lowest 15-year rate recorded in the history of the survey since the beginning of January 1990. The effective rate also decreased from last week.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;The survey covers over 50 percent of all U.S. retail residential mortgage applications, and has been conducted weekly since 1990. Respondents include mortgage bankers, commercial banks and thrifts.&amp;nbsp; Base period and value for all indexes is March 16, 1990=100.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Says Gad Levanon, Associate Director of Macroeconomic Research at The Conference Board: &amp;ldquo;While the Employment Trends Index has been on a slightly declining trend in recent months, the decline in the index is still not as strong as it was in the months leading to previous recessions. We still expect the economy to moderately add jobs in the next several months, but not fast enough to lower the unemployment rate.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This month&amp;rsquo;s decrease in the ETI was driven by negative contributions from six out of the eight components. The weakening indicators include The Conference Board &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;Consumer Confidence Survey&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;sup&gt;&amp;reg;&lt;/sup&gt;&amp;ldquo;Jobs Hard to Get,&amp;rdquo; Initial Claims for Unemployment Insurance, Part-Time Workers for Economic Reasons, Job Openings, Industrial Production and Real Manufacturing and Trade Sales.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Employment Trends Index aggregates eight labor-market indicators, each of which has proven accurate in its own area. Aggregating individual indicators into a composite index filters out so-called &amp;ldquo;noise&amp;rdquo; to show underlying trends more clearly.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The eight labor-market indicators aggregated into the Employment Trends Index include:&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>Zillow Mortgage Survey Pegs 30-Year Fixed Rate Home Loans Under 4%</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Zillow issued the following press release.&amp;nbsp; It is interesting to note that their rates are well below the weekly rates that BankRate or Freddie Mac (due tomorrow, on Thursday) issues, but they should be more timely as rates can change not only daily, but with real-time pricing in Fannie Mae MBS, rates can change several times in a single day.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;FROM ZILLOW:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;"The 30-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow(R) Mortgage Marketplace is currently 3.92 percent, down 15 basis points from 4.07 percent at this same time last week. This represents the second time the rate has dropped below 4 percent and is a return to the lowest rate recorded since Zillow Mortgage Marketplace launched in April 2008. That rate was recorded on Aug. 10, 2011. After rising to 4.07 percent on Thursday, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate hovered between 3.98 percent and 4.05 percent before diving to the current rate early this morning.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Zillow's real-time mortgage rates are based on thousands of custom mortgage quotes submitted daily to anonymous borrowers through the site, and reflect the most recent changes in the market. These are not marketing rates, or a weekly survey.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The rate for a 15-year fixed home loan is currently 3.17 percent, while the rate for a 5-1 adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM) is 2.57 percent.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Even a German court is about to rule whether or not the Greek bailout was legal on September 7, 2011. Even though experts say the court won't rule against the government, their PM is losing political support.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Despite the Fed saying it won't raise rates for the next two years, one has to wonder how the US 2 year yield can remain at .20% when France is at .94%&amp;nbsp;even Germany's 2 year yield is more than double the US at .43% (see &lt;a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=GDBR2:IND&amp;amp;n=y"&gt;http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=GDBR2:IND&amp;amp;n=y&lt;/a&gt;#)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The pressure on US&amp;nbsp;rates in the months ahead just have to end up beyond the control of even the Fed when you see where the rest of the world is.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Bottom line: what is happening in Europe is going to impact our&amp;nbsp;equity markets and soon.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Any Silver Linings Out there? Try Falling Mortgage Rates</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Last week's silver lining for housing came in the form of mortgage rates, pushed lower by the cloud of&amp;nbsp;financial market turmoil. The average 30-year fixed rate stayed near historic lows, while&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt; the &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;average &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;15-year fixed rate&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;hit a new low for records back to 1991.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The average rate for 5-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages (ARMs) also made a new low for records since 2005. &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;T&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;he Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) reported purchase loan&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;applications&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt; UP 5.1% over the week before and UP 5.9% over a year ago.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;But buyers shouldn't be complacent. The latest MBA forecast says rates on 30-year fixed-rate mortgages could rise the last three months of this year and continue to go up next year. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

      <title>Stock Market Drops Like A Stone: Week in Review (ending Aug. 5, 2011)</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;You can't sugar coat last week's stock market performance, the worst drop in over two years. You also can't come up with a consistent explanation for why investors were so intent on selling. Congress and the President reached an agreement to raise the debt ceiling and it did have something for everyone.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;Government spending will still rise this year and continue for the next 10. Yet government size will also shrink, as federal spending is slated to drop by about 2% of GDP in the next 10 years.&lt;/span&gt; Some worried the U.S. would lose its AAA credit rating, which finally happened Friday night, but others think that will actually help Washington get fiscally serious.&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;Bearish Wall Streeters fretted about recession, with lower than expected ISM Manufacturing and Services &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;readings&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;. But these were still both above 50, indicating expansion, 24 months in a row for manufacturing. Personal Income also grew less than expected in June and Personal Consumption dipped a smidge. But &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;in the past year income is UP 5% and spending UP 4.4%.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;The recessionistas were silenced by &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Friday's July Employment report -- 117,000 new jobs, plus May/June revisions adding 56,000, for a net gain of 173,000.&lt;/span&gt; The one bummer is still Europe. Italy says it's not about to default but investors acted like it might.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;&lt;br style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;br&gt;F&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;or the week, the&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; Dow ended down 5.8%, to 11445; the S&amp;amp;P 500 was down 7.2%&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;,&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt; to &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;1199; and the Nasdaq was down 8.1%, to 2532.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;br&gt;&lt;/p&gt;</description>

      <title>Weekly Forecast: Tough News Week with New Home Sales, Pending Home Sales &amp; GDP News Ahead</title>
      <description>&lt;p&gt;Tuesday's June New Home Sales are forecast a tick up from the prior month, but Thursday's June Pending Home Sales are predicted down.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Also on Tuesday, July Consumer Confidence should be slightly down, while Friday's Michigan Consumer Sentiment will come in flat.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The less than upbeat consumer mindset is no doubt caused by the slowing recovery, expected to be confirmed by Friday's Advanced&amp;nbsp;Q2 GDP reading.&lt;/p&gt;
