Whether you agree the situation in Iraq or not. - 04/30/08 11:34 AM
This e-mail was sent to me, I hope it is authentic. No matter what your position is about the war in Iraq, say a little prayer for our fighting forces (And for them to be home soon) It moved me, so I am sharing it. Gentlemen I am an Australian and my son is an Australian - as far as we areconcerned there is not place on God's earth better than Australia, andthere are no people better than Australians. That was until the past week or so. My son is in the Australian Army and he is currently on deployment in Iraq. I (1 comments)
Valhalla, NY Home of the Kensico Dam. - 04/29/08 03:31 PM
The name Valhalla comes from Norse Mythology. It means The Hall of the Chosen or Slain Warriors. A Heaven-like place. Valhalla NY enjoys a beautiful topograpy with lovely hills and wonderful homes. Quite appropriately there are 2 beautiful cemeteries in Valhalla, Kensico Cemetery with Sharon Gardens and Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The hamlet of Valhalla is about 28 Miles North of Times Square in Manhattan. There is a train station so it is about 35 Min. from Grand Central Station in NYC in the town of Mount Pleasant. The population is about 5,500. Kensico Dam is one of the most famous features in (0 comments)
Listening - Really. Educating. - 04/28/08 03:12 PM
I just read a post on how important it is to listen to your buyers and sellers. There are two things that that are really necessary to be a great Realtor. Number 1 would be listening. Really listening to what your buyers want. Really listening to what your sellers expect. Number 2 would be educating. Let's face it, no matter what market we are in some people have to sell and some people have to buy. I have had a few careers before becoming a Realtor. This is the only business that the buyers and sellers think they know more than the Realtors. Have you ever had (3 comments)
The Man in the other bed - 04/27/08 10:02 AM
The Man in the Other Bed Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the (1 comments)
Real Estate - Friends Competitors & Family - 04/26/08 02:48 PM
I went for a hike today with a fellow Realtor and her 3 year old son. We had a wonderful time wandering around The Cranberry Lake preserve which borders Harrison, Armonk, White Plains and Valhalla. In my 25 years as a Realtor I have made so many friends and had such good times with so many people. I feel so lucky to be a part of my Real Estate Community and I am excited about meeting new friends and associates at Active Rain. Have a GREAT WEEKEND! (2 comments)
Give it your best shot. - 04/25/08 04:29 PM
Our words have more power than we realize sometimes. I was at an open house on Thursday and I ran into an agent who used to work with me and has recently changed companies. She mentioned to me two pieces of advice that I had given her. THE STORIES One piece was from about three years ago, she had just gotten over being sick and she had a relationship with someone who didn't help her out during that time. I told her that she should find someone else where the relationship was more equal. Somone that would be as kind to her as she would be (11 comments)
Do It yourself or Want to? - 04/24/08 04:03 PM
As I was signing on to AOL today I came across Eric Stromer's do it yourself videos. I am not the most handy guy in the world, but I watched a few of the Videos. Looking at a few of them the information was presented that made it look easy to follow and not scary. Elmsford A small yet very convenient village. - 04/23/08 05:36 PM
Elmsford is 1.1 Square mile village with less than 5000 residents. Located in the Town of Greenburgh in Westchester County it is about 25 Miles north of Grand Central Station in NYC, about half way between White Plains and Tarrytown. There is plenty of shopping and nightlife along rte 119 and rte 9, as well as the proximity to White Plains and NYC, With a Dinner theatre, SAMS Club A multiplex theater and all kinds of restaurants and fast foods and several diners there are plenty of places to go out to eat and socialize. There is a large animal shelter. The convenience of this village is amazing, (3 comments)
Hartsdale, NY - 04/21/08 01:52 PM
Hartsdale is a wonderful little Hamlet in the town of Greenburgh, NY with a population of about 10,000. The first house I ever sold was in Hartsdale, and I have always enjoyed the Hamlet. The commute to Grand Central Station in NYC is about half an hour and the train station is on the Scarsdale border, so the trains in this moderately priced community are shared by Scarsdale residents. The things that I love about Hartsdale are numerous. The convenience as a bedroom community of NYCThe village feeling in the area around the train station. The Saturday morning farmer's market. The condos and co-ops along E. (9 comments)
In spite of the market - 04/20/08 11:04 PM
It is a tough market, almost all over. Don't let that stop you from doing a few things to increase your business. Reach out to some past clients. Call or send a note to a FSBO Send out a few personal notes. If you do a few things everyday. It will slowly increase your business. Just like planting seeds. GOOD LUCK ALL! Today is all about being thankful. - 04/18/08 03:15 PM
Today is one of those spring days in New York that you can be thankful to be alive. The forsythia, cherry, apple and magnolias are bursting into bloom and the weather is warm, clear and not humid. The weeping cherry tree I planted in front of my house a few years ago. I posted some photos for Rye NY the other day on localism. Feel free to check them out. No matter how good or bad business is, no matter how busy or slow you are, We all have so much to be thankful for. Friends, family, the weather, my garden. Springtime. Feel free to (10 comments)
Westchester County, NY The Golden Apple - 04/17/08 10:47 AM
Westchester Westchester County NY The Golden Apple Nicknamed The Golden Apple because of its proximity to NewYork City and its affluent communities, Westchester is the first northern suburb of New York City. To give you an idea of how close; if you started at Times Square and drove directly north on Broadway for about 12 Miles you would be on Broadway in Yonkers, the first city over the Bronx Line. Westchester has a population of about 1 million people. There are 32 municipalities in Westchester, a somewhat confusing mix of towns, villages and cities. The reason it is a little confusing is that the post offices, (4 comments)
Negotiating your home purchase. - 04/16/08 02:16 PM
Negotiating your real estate purchase. The first thing that you should know is that if you are completely in love with the home you intend to purchase you are in a very weak negotiating position. The strongest point in a negotiation is to be willing to walk away. When you make your offer you need to find out how the market is in the area. Ask your Realtor for a list of all the houses for sale in that particular neighborhood as well as a list of everything that has sold in the past 3 months. Drive by as many of them on your own (2 comments)
Real Estate advice for buyers. - 04/15/08 12:44 PM
When you are looking for a new home, there are certain things that will help you in the process. * The first thing thing that is essential is to find out how much you can afford. - (I am not saying that you should spend as much as you can afford, but you want to find out how much you can afford.) * Contact your bank, get referrals from friends and relatives and talk to reputable mortgage professionals. * Get a pre-approval. * Try to figure out what kind of home you would like. Are you starting out? Would a one bedroom condo or co-op (2 comments)
Central Westchester Real Estate market. - 04/14/08 04:00 PM
It is really interesting seeing the market today. There are so many new Real Estate agents that haven't seen a market that has changed so much, and is quite challenging. Though it is great to see a lot of "Young blood" in the market. A year and a half ago if you called on 20 homes to show them 3 or 4 would be available to show. Now of 20 homes 12-16 will be available. The market has changed. The sellers have to understand that in a difficult economy the asking price and over asking price offers are very hard to come by. A good Realtor does (12 comments)
