First Three Quarters Real Estate Sales Report - Key West - 09/30/12 04:24 AM

  I just did a quick review of the real estate sales for the Island of Key West for the first nine months of 2012. Shall we celebrate with a Key West "segar" and some Mumm's champagne?
I did not include any sales on Stock Island, the golf course, or any house, condo, trailer, etc. located east of Cow Key Channel. The reason I did this is that when potential buyers want to buy a place in Key West they tend to resist even looking at anything off the island itself. It's time for a new update so that my blog followers who have not been to Key West for several months can track the progress (or slowness) of some of the more interesting projects of Key West.
618 Grinnell Street looks quite attractive with its new yellowish color and the new addition at the rear. A pool has been installed, but it is not finished.  A couple of out buildings were added at the rear, but they are no where near complete either.

I got an email a couple of days ago which read "I was reading your information about KEY West housing renovations and I saw 319 Grinnel ST.  Could you tell me if the renovation is complete.  I believe I saw it on a Forcloser list and I  am wondering if it is in liveable condition."

  Just listed, but not by me, 307 Elizabeth Street which was built circa 1885 according to a property appraiser record I found. The mls shows the property as having been built in 1928, however.  If I am correct, and I am pretty sure that it the case, 307 Elizabeth Street would be one of the older houses of Key West. It is located in the Historic Key West Seaport area on a street with other substantial homes that survived the great fire many years ago. There are two things I love about Key West: our wonderful weather and that life never is predictable. Take for example an incident that occurred a few years back when I was riding my bike to the gym. Maybe I should have entitled today's blog "Honey, I Blew Up the Kid - er, I Mean House".  As I prepared to write today's blog, I looked in the old shoe box to find old photos of 820 Whitehead Street, the subject du jour. I found the above black and white photo but at first thought the street notation was incorrect. And then I realized that the address and the photo are accurate.
