Several years ago I was working with a married couple who seriously considered buying a prominent Conch House located on one the best blocks in Key West. While it was not the house pictured above, that is the style of the house which also had a guest cottage, large pool, elegant outdoor living area in the rear, and off street parking. The wife flew down to Key West to check the house out. She noticed something I had not considered - an office building located across the street.

I reveled watching IN THE HEIGHTS on Netflix. It will make you want to sing and dance and care about someone other than yourself. You will smile and wonder how they did that. The production, photography, scenery, acting, singing, and dancing are memorable. Much of the principal action takes place in a bodega - a small grocery store especially in a Spanish speaking neighbor hood. This particular bodega is the heart of the neighborhood which is changing. I finally got to take a full tour 628 White Street yesterday afternoon during an open house. It is a beautiful Old Town landmark.There lookers inside when I entered, as I walked around, and when I left. A steady stream of potential buyers. Before we look around, checkout the photo taken from the same location in 1965 - half a century ago. This is one very pretty home. Great lines. Oh, and HARC, dormers were used in Old Town. HARC hates dormers.

I got a chance to preview 1221 Margaret Street a few weeks ago. I was really impressed. Really! I have written about this small group of single family homes built at the edge of Old Town in 1999. Some share a rear driveway which allowed the developer to build big houses on smaller lots than official building code required. While searching the Key West MLS for upcoming open houses and I noticed a property described as a renovated duplex of just 1,176 sq ft. I thought to myself "That's odd. I thought it sold in 2021." It was eleven years ago when I blogged about 525 Simonton Street when it was offered for sale as a "short sale" at what I called the bargain asking price of $1,999,000. But it does not matter. I recently held an open house. I arrived at my listing about fifteen minutes before it was to begin. A couple driving a street legal golf cart was parked in front waiting for me to arrive. I asked them to wait five minutes so I could turn on the lights and get organized. I met the owner inside who agreed to turn on the lights on the second floor while I set up the first floor.
