Buyers who are looking for a large renovation project in the Old Town area may want to look at 315 William Street. I dug through the old shoebox and found some old pics of the house over the years. The Monroe County Property Appraiser says the house was built circa 1899. That would jive with some nearby houses that are among the earliest built … (1 comments)

historic key west seaport: Sitting Pretty in Key West - 04/05/11 11:14 AM
I remember being in the house at 727 Eaton Street years ago. A friend rented an apartment there, and I vaguely remember being inside. The black and white photo below shows the house in 1965. I think that is pretty much how it looked like when I was there in 1987. Twenty four years later it looks amazingly different. The listing agent recently invited me to take a look at the property. As I walked past the front garden gate and eyed the grand facade, my eyes were drawn to the old fashioned swing on the front porch. When I got to … (0 comments)

historic key west seaport: Home, James - 01/05/11 03:48 PM
What do you think of when you hear the phrase "Home, James"? My mind conjured up a vision of a chauffeur driving someone very rich to some fancy house. I Googled that phrase and up popped a pic of King George V (see above) with a beggar chasing his carriage. And that is the roundabout explanation of today's blog except the home I offer for your consideration isn't fancy, but it is located on James Street.Today's blog is about the hodge podge house located at 1018 James Street in Old Town Key West. The Monroe County Property Appraiser photograph below says … (0 comments)

historic key west seaport: 531 Margaret Street - Old Town - Key West - 11/16/10 02:17 PM

531 Margaret Street in November 2010 531 Margaret Street in 1965 The new listing at 531 Margaret Street ought to sell pretty quickly, I think. It has four of the five most common requirements from most buyers: (1) good location; (2) two bedrooms and two bathrooms; (3) charm; and (4) a pool. The fifth most common requirement is off street parking. Not available here, however. This 841 sq ft tow story home is priced at just $475,000 or $565 per sq ft. I found an old photo of this house (above). Note how part of the front porch got enclosed … (0 comments)

historic key west seaport: 525 Grinnell Street - Old Town Cottage - Short Sale - Key West - 10/10/10 09:07 AM

525 Grinnell Street- Old Town - Key West - October 2010525 Grinnell Street in 1965 Just listed, but not by me, 525 Grinnell Street in Old Town Key West. This just might be that great little cottage you have been waiting for. It seems like so many would-be second home buyers want pretty much the same type of property, to wit: (1) Old Town; (2) two bedrooms; (3) priced right; (4) parking; (5) good condition but willing to do a little fix-up if required; and (6) pool as desirable but often not necessary. You can't beat the location. One of the … (3 comments)

historic key west seaport: 1025 Thompson Lane - Old Town - Key West - 09/14/10 10:01 AM

1025 Thompson Lane as it appeared in a 1965 photograph If you have little kids and live on a through street more than four or five blocks long, I'll bet you live in mortal fear that someday some sixteen year old boy will be dragging down your block and possibly run over your child. Who reading this blog hasn't seen some teenager (0r young adult) drive way too fast down a long suburban street? Few, if any, I'll bet. That is one of the charms of the slow lanes of Key West: they are so short, narrow, and hard to … (1 comments)

This place was on the market before. Same house; same price; a new Realtor; a tightening market. It did not sell last time at the asking price. Will it sell now? This is how the listing Realtor describes this property:

historic key west seaport: 728 Windsor Lane - Old Town - Key West - 06/27/10 12:46 PM

728 Windsor Lane in 2010 728 Windsor Lane in 1965 I think the little cottage at 728 Windsor Lane is one of the best buys in Old Town Key West. The seller just reduced the asking price from $260,,000 to $229,900. This house is still livable as is for a few years, but it really needs a redo. When I show a house like this I tell my buyers not to consider what it looks like now on the inside or the outside because when to redo is done, you won't be able to recognize the place. The good thing … (1 comments)

historic key west seaport: 316 Peacon Lane - Old Town - Key West - 06/18/10 01:44 PM
Just listed by Preferred Properties 316 Peacon Lane near the Historic Key West Seaport in Old Town Key West. If you read my blog regularly you already know that I'm like Lady Ga Ga about the slow lanes of Key West. Peacon Lane is one of the more user friendly of the lanes because you can actually drive a car into and out of the lane. (Some lanes require that you park your car on the street and walk to your house. I like those really slow and quiet lanes, but some owners have this need to be near to their … (0 comments)
