preferred prop: 1322 Thompson Street - Casa Marina Area - Key West - 01/17/12 10:29 AM
Cool.... in Key West!
The new listing at 1322 Thompson Street is the antithesis of the quaint cigar maker's cottages, the big conch houses, or the eyebrow houses that dominate Old Town Key West. Most of those houses are old and have been updated to accommodate today's lifestyle. Some renovations are highly successful while others are often challenged by small buildings, small lots, small budgets, or small imagination.1322 Thompson Street in east portion of the Casa Marina Area, on the other hand, is a 1958 ranch that was renovated by Debra Yates and Raymond Jungles who created a one-of-a-kind Key West … (3 comments)

preferred prop: 1518 United Street - Key West - Short Sale - 01/30/11 09:32 AM
We are getting to the bare bones of houses for sale at reasonable prices in Key West. I did a quick search of properties priced on a 'per square foot' asking price in the Old Town and near Old Town areas. I only found 14 priced below that of 1518 United Street. I have written about 5 of those properties before. They are all challenged a bit by location or condition or both. That's why they are priced so cheaply.
Tennessee Williams House on Duncan Street That's why I decided to discuss the United Street property. The asking price is just … (1 comments)

preferred prop: Adieu 2010 - Key West - 12/31/10 07:21 AM
There are certain years we fondly remember and we soon forget. 2010 was an awful year in my memory bank that I'll be glad quickly to forget. There has been so much acrimony in Washington that spilled down in day to day life. Big Business won the last election at the expense of working people and those who are out of work. It will be interesting to see how much of millionaire tax break actually creates new jobs-in the United States. I do know that people buying houses in Key West creates jobs, because new homeowners always spend money to make … (2 comments)

New "skin" is being added to the old but improved frame There are many reasons people fall in love with Key West. One of those is the distinctive architecture. I have watched the renovation of numerous homes since I first came to Key West 26 years ago. Some are done by weekend warriors; some by fast-buck artists; and some are done by craftsmen. A little … (2 comments)

preferred prop: Bank Owned - Heart of Old Town - Key West - 02/26/09 10:18 AM
I wrote about 518 William Street twice last year and urged potential buyers to look at this very well located house when it was offered as a SHORT SALE at the asking price of $875,000. Guess what: it did not sell. The then listing Realtor did tell me that the lender received a couple of low ball offers in the $300,000 range. Guess what again: it is now BANK OWNED and the new asking price is only $399,900 or $231 per sq ft. This is how the Listing Realtor describes 518 William Street: "Old Seafaring Neighborhood located just blocks from the … (0 comments)
