Remodeled in 2004, this large air conditioned home (with 4 bedrooms, including the Master, on the same floor) sits on a big lot (about 2/3 acre) with views of the bay to the east and sunsets to the west. Marin Human Society Turns 100 Years Old - 05/31/07 11:48 AM
What do dogs, cats, song birds, chickens, rabbits, and turtles all have in common?  A second chance provided by the Marin Humane Society ("MHS")!
MHS turns 100 this year and is celebrating that milestone on June 3rd with festivities for all ages.   There will be contests (e.g., biggest dog, smallest dog, best dog singer (like American Idol?), demonstrations, a group dog walk at 10:00 a.m., drawings, and more.
On a personal note, about 4 years ago, my family adopted a dog from the MHS that had been rescued from a shelter in the Fresno area.  Carmen is the greatest dog I have ever had the pleasure to know.  … (0 comments)

Cures For "Click Finger" - 05/23/07 09:17 PM
Blogging and keeping up on all the great stuff around here makes my fingers hurt (not to mention my eyeballs).  Since most of us do not have the luxury to get on disability leave with carpal tunnel or some other form of "Click Finger" trauma, here are a couple ideas to manage the pain:
1) Resist the urge to click--get off Active Rain (spend some time with loved ones, if you have any);
2) Hire a virtual (or actual) scrivener to do your typing for you;
3) Type with your toes (that's what I am doing ...);
4) Do what Ronnie Lott (the most awesome … (0 comments)

Marin County Real Estate Breaks New Ground - 05/18/07 10:15 AM
Defying national and statewide trends, the Marin County real estate market posted strong numbers in both sales and prices of homes sold in April 2007.  As reported in the Marin Independent Journal ("IJ"), homes sold last month for a median price of $1,010,000 according to figures compiled by DataQuick Information Systems-the first county in California to have a median price of $1 million plus.
Overall, home prices in Marin rose 3.8% between April 2006 and April 2007.  In addition, Marin is the only County in the Bay Area to experience an increase in the number of homes sold year over year (albeit by just 4 homes)-meanwhile, the … (0 comments)

Novato Real Estate Market (5/1/07 Home Sales Report) - 05/14/07 06:56 PM
Novato home sales and real estate values are proving to be somewhat sluggish as we enter the Spring selling season. Novato's homes that are nicely maintained, updated, and/or located in the most desirable neighborhoods continue to sell at a relatively quick pace (especially those priced under $700,000. Once prices get up above $700,000, however, the percentage of homes in escrow (a good barometer of market strength) dips to about 25%.
Interestingly, homes priced in the $1 million - $1.5 million range are selling at a similar rate (in terms of percentage in escrow) as those in the $700,000 to $1 million price range. Homes in Novato that sold during the … (0 comments)

San Rafael Real Estate Market Report (5/1/07 Sales Report) - 05/11/07 01:23 PM
San Rafael Real Estate Market (5/1/07 Sales Report) Like most of Marin County real estate markets, the San Rafael real estate market is performing well relative to the rest of the country. The bread and butter homes of San Rafael are priced between $750,000 and $900,000. These homes tend to sell fairly quickly so long as they are nicely maintained, updated, and/or located in the most desirable neighborhoods (although the percentage of homes in escrow fell this past month).
San Rafael Home priced in the $1 million - $1.5 million range continue selling at a respectable pace (47% are in escrow). Homes that sold during the past month (there were 50 home sales) … (0 comments)

Mill Valley Home Sales and Market Report 5/1/07 - 05/10/07 11:29 PM
Mill Valley Real Estate Market (Sales Report)
Mill Valley home sales and real estate values, as they often do, are performing extremely well. Proximity to San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge's effortless commute combine to keep prices and sales strong even as the national market stagnates. The bread and butter homes of Mill Valley are priced between $1 million and $1.5 million and sell fast so long as they are nicely maintained, updated, and/or located in the most desirable neighborhoods (although the percentage of homes in escrow fell this past month from 56%-40% of these homes are in escrow indicating a pretty balanced market). As with the rest … (0 comments)

Marin County Population Growth Surges in Novato - 05/04/07 10:27 AM
As noted in a recent news report in the Marin Independent Journal, growth rates in Marin were relatively low over the past year.  Overall, population growth was 0.9 percent last year (for a total population of 255,982).
In Novato, however, the population grew by 2.4 percent to 52,426, largely due to new housing in Hamilton Field and Atherton Ranch.  Over the past seven years, Hamilton has seen over 2,100 homes built.  The large increase in population (mainly young families) has resulted in rapid increases in the number of children attending Hamilton Elementary School, which has grown from 365 children to 488 … (0 comments)
