Out with the Old, Last Chance 2009! - 12/30/09 09:05 PM

Out with the old, in with the new.  Christmas brings  in the new clothes, toys and household items.  This makes the end of the year a perfect time to clean out the old from the closets and drawers throughout your home.  Sort what you want to keep, what can be donated to an Edmond charity, and what should be thrown away.
The items that can be recycled should be sent to a local charity.  Plus, if you make the donation by the 31st of December, you will have a tax deduction for 2009.  In Edmond there are several organizations that will make use … (0 comments)

Are You Ready to Say UNCLE? - 12/30/09 03:22 PM
You were going to be rich in 2009!  The plan was simple enough; buy a cute little house in Edmond near UCO, fix it up a bit, find a tenant, then sit back and wait for the money to come rolling in!  So, in January you found a little house.  Okay, it wasn't very cute and it's not near UCO.  But you got a great deal and with a little work it could be cute!  You begin to work on the house on weekends and after work.  How much can it take?  A little paint, maybe laminate floors and some new … (3 comments)

Hiding From Foreclosure? - 12/16/09 09:41 AM
Have you ever played hide and seek with a small child?  They will "hide" in the middle of the room with their hands over their eyes, believing that no one can see them.  Homeowners facing foreclosure remind me of that kiddo sometimes. For months they have had unopened late notices piling on the counter.  They have been screening their phone calls in an attempt to avoid speaking with the collections department.  They are hiding. What are they to do?  Some homeowners will finally open their eyes and make contact with the bank, possibly even negotiate a loan modification and continue to live in their home.  … (1 comments)

Do You Have a Financial Plan for Your Home? - 12/15/09 01:21 PM
As the end of another year approaches many people are making resolutions and plans for 2010, I know I am.  As you make plans for your business and family have you created a financial plan for your Edmond home?  Have you budgeted for repairs, taxes, and insurance?  As your largest investment it is worth considering.  I just read the following article by Richard Koreto.  After reading it, I have decided I have some more planning to do for 2010!A house is probably the biggest investment you'll ever make. Create a financial plan that takes into account repairs, upgrades, mortgages, insurance, and … (0 comments)

Looking Back and to the Future - 12/11/09 01:01 PM
The end of year retrospectives are everywhere on tv and newstands this time of year.  I must admit they usually grab my attention.  It's so interesting to remember people and events and even see where they are now.  Taking a moment to look back is important.  It gives us a chance to reflect on where we have been and the set our sights on the future. As we enter a new decade and I look back at the past ten years, so much has changed in my life.  During this time I have watched my little girls grow into confident young ladies, lost people that … (0 comments)

Cash for Caulking May be Coming! - 12/09/09 04:58 PM
Brrrr!  It is so very cold outside in Edmond, Oklahoma today!  Knowing that this day was on it's way, I went through my home and made sure that all the windows and doors were closed tight.  Unfortunately, I found more than one window that was not and was causing a draft of cold air to come into my home.  Because the windows are original to our 1992 home and a builder's grade it was a struggle to get them closed.  It took two of us to get the job done.  One to push the window down with all our might and one … (2 comments)

Buyer tax credit effective but not available - 12/07/09 10:03 PM
If you have recently closed, it may be worthwhile to wait for the updated form to become available.
Via Stone Real Estate Group, LLC:
WASHINGTON - Dec. 7, 2009 - With President Obama's signature on Nov. 6, 2009, the first-time homebuyer tax credit was extended, and some move-up buyers became eligible for up to $6,500 starting on Dec. 1, 2009. However, the new law changed the way a home sale must be documented to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), including additional back-up information to minimize the chance of fraud. And that documentation change became effective immediately when the bill was signed. But that new … (3 comments)

Should You Decorate for the Holidays? - 12/03/09 03:05 PM
Ah, the wonder of the holiday season.  Last weekend I brought down boxes and boxes of holiday decorations from my attic to be displayed throughout our home.  Okay, to be honest my husband did!  But I found decorations I had not used in years, like my mom's nativity set, wall hangings that belonged to my grandma, and a lot that could be donated or thrown away.  I bet you have an attic full too. What do you do with all your decorations if your house is available for sale?  Do you still bring all these family treasures from the attic and decorate … (2 comments)
