All In or All Out? - 12/15/10 06:15 PM
You're either all in or all out.  There is no in between in real estate.I work all year.  I have to.  My kids have an expectation to eat all year so I must work all year.  But not everyone in the real estate biz does.  I have several associates that are very honest and say that they choose not work during the holidays.  And when they say they don't work, they mean it.  No active listings, no buyer tours no open houses.  I respect that choice.  So, please understand that the following is not intended for those professionals. For Realtors with your toe … (7 comments)

Holiday Decor Time Stamps Your Listing - 12/15/10 09:15 AM
There is a common misconception that real estate takes a break from Thanksgiving to New Years Day.  The reality is that since Thanksgiving, 114 homeowners have listed their property for sale in Edmond (5 are already under contract and 2 of those new listings have even closed!)  Most of these folks are cruising through the holidays just like any other year.  The house is decorated, presents are being wrapped and cookies are being baked.Maybe you  are one of those homeowners?  If so, it's likely that a certain amount of holiday decor is featured in the real estate photos and virtual tour attached to … (5 comments)

For the New Homeowners on Your Holiday List - 12/14/10 10:07 AM
Making a list and checking it twice.  That's one thing we all have in common this time of year.  Have you finished your holiday shopping?  Me either!  Honestly, I've been crazy busy selling real estate all over Edmond this month!  I haven't even had a chance to make my list let alone check it twice!  I'm sure I will be out there in the madness on Christmas Eve.  Maybe I'll see you there, ha!We all have so many people to remember.  Kids, parents, teachers and coworkers.  It can be hard to come up with original ideas.  Let me help.  Did any of … (2 comments)

Merry Christmas!
Via Clint Miller (Real Estate Client Referrals, LLC (RECR)):
I remember when I was 7 years old......Creeping down the stairs......Hoping to see a pile of goodies left under the tree for me......Excitement building upon seeing the plate of half-eaten cookies and an empty glass of milk......Sooty boot tracks along the carpet that came from the fireplace (HE WAS REAL!!)And there it … (2 comments)

Is Your House Telling Your Secrets? - 12/13/10 02:41 PM
As an Edmond REALTOR representing you in the sale of your house, it would be unethical for me to give any of your secrets away.  I can't tell prospective buyers any of your motivating factors.  Without your permission I can't tell them that you are relocating overseas for your dream job or maybe facing a foreclosure unless you have an offer in the next 30 days.  Sharing this information with a buyer could give them an unfair advantage when negotiating an offer. You would be surprised how many sellers let their house spill the beans though!  Here are a just a few ways that your house may … (1 comments)

Flash Mob Sings Hallelujah in OKC - 12/11/10 05:14 PM
Today shoppers at Oklahoma City's Quail Springs Mall were in for a real holiday treat!  At precisely 12:30 in the food court, you could hear a whistle.  That whistle was a signal to many in the crowd to begin singing the beautiful classic Christmas hymn, Hallelujah.  It was intended to be a secret, but based on the large crowds most in attendance were there to see the performance.  Either way, it was an incredible experience.  I'm so glad that my daughter and I were there today!  I was able to shoot a video.  From my vantage point you cannot see all … (3 comments)

BUY A HOUSE? That's Just Crazy! - 12/07/10 09:59 AM
Continue to rent or take the leap and buy.  Renting an apartment or house has worked just fine so far, so why make a change?  Besides, how could you ever afford to BUY A HOUSE?  That's crazy talk!  But people you love and trust keep telling you that interest rates are low and that you should buy a home.  But what does that really mean?Let's say that right now you are spending $1200 a month to rent a house in Edmond or NW OKC.  The money you spend on rent is an expense.  You are not receiving any tax deductions or building any equity … (1 comments)

Technology Makes Relocation Easier - 12/06/10 03:51 PM
In many ways it seems like a lifetime ago.  In some ways, it really was.  It was 1997 and my husband was in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp LeJeune in North Carolina.  After eight years of service, we determined that the best decision for our family was for him to discharge from the military and move forward with the next act in our lives.  But where would we go?  Where would we start? We considered relocating to several parts of the country.  At the time, we had family here in Oklahoma, in Texas and in Arizona.  So, our primary focus was on … (4 comments)

Oklahoma Holiday Lights Photo Contest - 12/06/10 10:30 AM
Do you love Christmas lights?  I sure do!  Every year we drive through several Edmond neighborhoods, downtown Oklahoma City, and of course the Chesapeake Energy campus to marvel at the holiday lights and displays.  We like to see what both the professionals and the area Griswolds have in store for us every year. So, I thought it would be fun to have a contest!  Let's find the best holiday display in the Oklahoma City metro!  Here's how to play, Log on to the Holiday Homes 2010 group on Flickr and add a photo of your favorite Holiday Home Display to the pool.  You will … (1 comments)

Holiday Lights at the OKC Chesapeake Campus - 12/06/10 09:38 AM
Once again the Chesapeake Energy campus in Oklahoma City has been transformed into a winter wonderland!  Trees throughout the campus and along both Western Avenue and NW 63rd have been meticulously wrapped in LED lights creating a feast for the eyes.
You can drive through to see the lights if you like.  But the real treat is parking your car and taking a walk.  That's what we did this weekend.  I took these pictures with my phone.  So, they really don't do justice to the display.

If you're not familiar with the area, the Chesapeake Campus is located at NW 63rd and … (2 comments)

The Missing Ingredient, DPA - 12/02/10 09:17 PM
It's happened to everyone (well maybe not everyone but for sure to me).  You decide to bake a batch of yummy chocolate chip cookies (or some other sweet confection).  You preheat the oven, carefully mix all the ingredients, and while you wait in anticipation for the timer to go off, pour a glass of milk.  Mmm, it smells so good, you can almost taste it!  After waiting for the tasty treat to cool, you take a big bite.  Blech!  Something is just not right.  What could have gone wrong?  Ugh, you missed one of the critical ingredients.  When baking, it takes the … (3 comments)

Edmond Real Estate, We Need to Restock the Shelves - 12/01/10 12:36 PM
Inventory.  Without it, we have no business.  Last week was Black Friday and this week we had Cyber Monday, two of the biggest shopping days in the US.  In the weeks and months leading to the big days, retailers were carefully calculating inventory levels to ensure that store shelves and distribution centers would be sufficiently stocked with this year's hot items.  Blame my background in retail, but I'm always keeping an eye to our current supply levels in real estate.  Especially this year's hot item.I like to know what this year's hot item is.  So, today I have been carefully calculating the inventory levels … (0 comments)
