st croix lifestyle: The Seasons of St Croix - 04/20/11 02:43 PM
As I was enjoying my morning walk today, I was thinking about how often I hear people say that they would miss the four seasons if they lived here.  Well, what I have discovered is that we have four seasons here, too!  When I lived in the states, I thought, like many of you, that the Caribbean had two seasons - Hot and Hotter.  Not true!  While we do enjoy WONDERFUL weather her nearly 365 days a year - there are actually four seasons.  The differences are subtle, and that's what makes it fun and interesting.  The first year here - … (1 comments)

st croix lifestyle: Side Trip from St Croix to San Juan, PR - 02/10/11 10:02 PM

I just returned to St Croix from a week in Puerto Rico. Even though I have lived close by for nearly 6 years, this was the first time I'd visited Puerto Rico - and I was pleasantly surprised.I'm not sure what I expected, but what I found was a cosmopolitan city full of very friendly people, great restaurants with fabulous service and wonderful food, amazing beaches, and tons of things to see and do. Did I mention the shopping? There's not much of that here in St Croix, but in San Juan I got a year's worth done in a week, and found some great bargains.

st croix lifestyle: New Beginnings from St Croix - 01/02/11 12:25 PM

Happy New Year from paradise, everyone!  I was among the first people in the United States to watch the sun rise this morning, when I attended a wedding at Point Udall, the easternmost part of the United States. I was late and missed the ceremony (not used to setting an alarm - and partying was going on till nearly daylight at a neighbor's home, so I didn't even hear the alarm) - but made it with time to see the sun rise and congratulate my friends on their nuptials. This is a time of new beginnings, even for those of us who didn't tie … (1 comments)

st croix lifestyle: St Croix is Always Beautiful - 11/17/10 08:29 PM

The weather in St Croix has been unusually bad for the past couple of weeks. We've had lots of rain and flooding, but even the bad weather here is beautiful...This is such a lovely place.  The occasional "rainy week" has its own charm, making for good sleeping and napping, and gorgeous skies.Today the sun is shining and we're starting to finally dry out! Though I'm glad for the return to pretty weather, all that rain makes one more appreciative of the stunning days that we have so often.  Enjoy these striking photos of our recent storms and their clearing.

st croix lifestyle: Earl Blows Through St Croix - 08/31/10 06:30 PM
the aftermath of Earl.....Earl blew in during the wee hours Sunday night and raged all day Monday.  I experienced his fury as Chuck and I attempted to rescue his little 16' boat at 5:00 a.m. on Monday morning, which had come untied at the dock and was banging into the pilings.  Wave after wave crashed on us as we tried to maneuver the boat out of harm's way onto the awaiting boat trailer.  Then, as if by divine intervention, the wind and rain stopped and there was a bit of a lull in the wave action, and we were able to … (1 comments)
