Soapbox: "A thing that provides an opportunity for someone to air their views publicly." I read an article earlier today that made me gasp (which in the new vernacular means that it was compelling enough for me to hit the "share" button and comment). The US Government has filed a lawsuit against Deutsche Bank. That's the good news. The bad news is that it involves $1.274 BILLION that HUD - that's us - has paid, or in the process of paying, this ONE bank, for bad loan insurance claims. The heartbreaker is that this is really about bailing out a bank,

foreclosures: Short Sale Market Share in Northern Utah including Salt Lake, Davis and Weber Counties - 11/17/10 04:34 PM
There are approximately 11,500 active home listings on www.UtahRealEstate.com (Wasatch Front Regional MLS) in Salt Lake, Davis and Weber Counties. Almost 2,500 of those home listings, are Short Sales = 21% ... one in five. Additionally, at least 10% of the homes currently on the market are vacant. What does this mean? It means that opportunity abounds for both home buyers and sellers. Yes, I really meant to include "sellers". For buyers, the current market offers unprecedented opportunity to "buy low", in the areas which will most likely rebound first (and yes, the real estate market WILL improve - check back

Bank of America Home Loan Head Says No Homes Improperly Seized - Bloomberg. I don't know about the "improperly" seized, but I do believe that there have been many homes "aggressively" seized when there may have been other options homeowners, particularly short sale or loan modification. Worse yet, doesn't this current debacle spit in the face of the original TARP conditions? Most notably: "Reforms designed to prevent future crises, to increase oversight, and to ensure better accounting and transparency;" It all makes sense when you consider what the definition of a bank really is ...
