charles buell inspections: High Level Liaisons -- Two Pods In A Pea - 09/12/10 05:13 PM
Many of you know that this Friday and Saturday I was at a seminar with Mr Charles Buell. Many of you also know that my high level assistant, Nutsy S. Wallenda, has been in Alaska for nearly one month.
There was a rumor, at the seminar yesterday, that Mr Charles had exited the room for one hour and that he was in a top level business meeting. I had assumed that was all a bunch of gossip until this photo was Emailed to me today by one of the people who attended the meeting.

I have to admit, as a Washingtonian all my life, I have always thought that the only place a person would find black widows spiders would be east of the mountains, as in eastern Washington. Those of us born and raised here know that the "serious" spiders and snakes are found on the hot side of the state. Now, that does not mean that some dingbat does not catch, and bring over, a rattler or two. I remember in my senior year at Bellingham High School, back before Lincoln was elected President, a kid brought two rattlers to biology. They were in … (9 comments)

As a home inspector, who also teaches a class in wood destroying organisms through the state college system in Washington State, I always take a camera along with me on hikes or vacations. I have some cool, and very illustrative, photos that I have taken of all kinds of wood problems, like classic cubical brown rot on wood in the famous city of Pompeii or wood that is in good shape and nearly 1000 years old from Bologna. I probably should have saved this post until April fools day. But, then again, I was browsing through my photos today and ran across it. Actually, I was looking for it a few weeks back and could not locate it. So, since it was in my grubby little home inspector paws today, I thought I would post it. Now, personally, I think that, even as a home inspector, I might let this one slide as far as inspecting it. It sure would be hard to price the inspection. Well, the photo below is something I have yet to run into doing inspections. In fact, many inspectors in this state, probably most, have never seen the pest below -- in action at least. Now, most of us have seen some species of this world-class house-wrecker. But this particular termite species is rare in the state of Washington, to the point that WSDA does not consider it to be an established pest. What menace am I speaking of?
