Moisture ants are wood destroying insects that many people have never heard of. Actually, if you havea wood destroying insect on premises, moisture ants are better to have than many of them -- such as anobiid beetles or subterranean termites. Moisture ants are not, specifically, a single species of ant. They are comprised of different species (not unlike carpenter ants) that have similar characteristics. The attribute that makes moisture ants less of an ongoing problem than some other wood destroying organisms, such as anobiid beetles or subterranean termites, is that they only invade a home if there is extremely wet or rotten

As a working home inspector, and a Washington State licensed structural pest inspector, I find numerous wood destroying organisms sharing residences with the mortgage paying, tax paying homeowners. The various wood destroying organisms are not helping pay the mortgage or the taxes but they are having a significant impact on the property. In some cases, probably a more significant long term impact than the residents are having -- even if the human residents are party animals. Fact is, the wood destroying organisms are munching or picnicking pretty much year round here in the maritime northwest where we have generally moderate temperatures that do

moisture ants: Pacific Northwest Home Inspection (King of the House): Moisture Ant Infestation - 03/01/08 01:09 PM
We would rather live without moisture ants, but they are an important part of nature -- turning old wood back into soil. As a home inspector and a licensed structural pest inspector, I often see carpenter ants. But, recently, I ran into another ant infestation that is not nearly so common to find as the carpenters -- moisture ants. It is amazing how much damage these little insects can do. They come in different colors, a brown to a yellowish-green color, and they are tiny. Take a look at the photo below, but they are way smaller than that. While
