washington state home inspector training: Washington State Home Inspector Training: Bellingham Technical College - 07/21/15 02:04 PM

At Bellingham Technical College, the home inspector training course has been running for about 20 years. This course long pre-dates the mandatory training standards implemented by Washington state in 2009.
The BTC course was the first state approved training course. We have students arriving from all around the state. Being a course offered under the auspices of the state college system, we may be the only course that is approved for students who are receiving scholarships, grants or funding from state and federal retraining programs.
The next four week course will begin,  on campus at Bellingham Technical College, on October 5, 2015. The … (4 comments)

washington state home inspector training: Washington Home Inspector Training (Bellingham Technical College) A Room Of Our Own - 10/22/11 08:42 AM
The home inspection training course at Bellingham Technical College now has its own "assigned" room. In years gone by, we were given a classroom that was available by virtue of it not being in use at the time the course was offered. As of this year, we have been assigned classroom  B-12. The room is fully equipped with computers and media equipment. Here is a photo of a few of the recent students working on report writing in the new facility.

Bellingham Technical College, for more than a decade, has been offering professional home inspection training. Students come from all over, … (0 comments)

washington state home inspector training: Registration Now Open -- Washington Home Inspection Training School - 05/24/11 02:33 PM
I got word from registration today that, as of today, Bellingham Technical College has opened registration for the next installment of home inspection training. The BTC class is fast-track -- the student completes the course, including field training in four weeks. That, obviously, does not mean that the student knows everything -- but it is an excellent jumping off point for the student. And it brings the student to a level that he, or she, is qualified to sit for the state licensing exam. And, of course, BTC has materials that help the student study from the state exams.
The next … (1 comments)

washington state home inspector training: Designed to Fail -- For The Sake of Knowledge - 04/13/11 01:04 PM
A week ago, with several home inspector friends from this community and around the state, I inspected a house that is designed to fail. This house is operated by Washington State University and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. It was built a few years back for the purpose of training home inspectors and state licensed structural pest inspectors.
The house is in Puyallup, WA and at this early point in it's life, they have already identified dampwood termite and subterranean termite activity. The house had deep standing water in the crawl space and, even when that is not the case naturally from … (13 comments)

The next Washington State DOL approved home inspection training class will be held at Bellingham Technical College beginning on February 28, 2011. Here is a link to the official site.
There has been quite a gap since the last class due to the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years season.  As is always the case, that course will also include the mandatory 40 hours of field training.
Anyone interested in our 120-hours of fundamentals of home inspection course, and field training, should call 360-752-8796 or you can call me directly at 360-676-6908. You can see a short video that describes the course … (3 comments)

washington state home inspector training: State Approved Fundamentals of Home Inspection Training - 04/17/10 02:28 AM
The next state approved fundamentals of home inspection training course, 120 hours in the classroom and 40 hours of approved field training, begins in Bellingham on May 3, 2010.

A bonus offered is that students are also introduced to the field of structural pest inspection, so they can determine whehter or not they wish to be dual licensed as home inspectors. Anyone who is interested in becoming a Washington state licensed home inspector, who did not meet grandfathering requirements, is required to take a state approved course.
For additional information on either the fundamentals of home inspection course or the supplemental course, … (3 comments)

washington state home inspector training: 120 Hours And Lots Of Sweat Later - 10/29/09 02:03 AM
Down below George's head, in the body of this article, is a photo of the culmination of lots of work. For three weeks these students have been enveloped by the intense home inspection training program that is offered at Bellingham Technical College. This program is one of only a few courses that are approved by the state to meet the new state requirements for a "fundamentals of home inspection" class.

When I say this is the culmination of their work, I mean that these students are taking their final test which consists of more than 200 questions. The test helps them … (14 comments)

washington state home inspector training: Washington State Home Inspector Training - 03/23/08 06:27 AM

Things will be changing in Washington State, now that a home inspector licensing law has been passed and signed by the Governor. The way it will all come out, ultimately, is going to be determined to a large degree by the home inspector licensing board. At this point, while generally established, the specifics on the education and testing are not formalized. However, one thing is certain. That is that the more training and experience one has, he or she is in a stronger position to meet all of the requirements when the law gets in full swing about a year … (2 comments)
