6500 tax credit: Tax Credit for New and Existing Homeowners - 11/10/09 05:30 AM
The First-Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has been extended to both new and existing homeowners as of November 6, 2009.  President Obama approved an extension of the $8000 tax credit for first-time home buyers through April 30, 2010.  And, if you have a signed binding sales contract by the April 30, 2010 deadline, you have until July 1, 2010 for escrow to close in order to still be eligible for the tax credit.  Previously, the tax credit was set to expire at the end of this month.  A first-time home buyer is defined as someone who has not owned a home in the last three years.
