things to do with kids: Things to do in and around Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - 01/13/10 01:52 PM

If you have spent any time and pa-roozed the many sites about Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, you have noticed (like me) the many, many calendars of "Things to do" that all claim to be "the one place" where you can find it all. Hog wash. There are so many interesting things to do in and around our community that I find it hard to believe any "one" site can claim to have it all.
Even this one. I mean, come on! ilovecda.com is my personal blog. If you dig me and my sarcastic tone, you'll come back. If you don't, … (0 comments)

New local blog taking Coeur d'Alene by storm!
There's a new local blog called ilovecda.com and in it's short time on the web, it has managed to collect quite a following.  In a few short months it has managed to amass almost 500 fans on Facebook (without any paid advertising) and has regular visitors that peruse (aka: pa-rooze) the site and it's many photos of people, places and dogs around Coeur d'Alene.

The author likes to mention that ilovecda.com is written by a local, for locals and is about "Life in Coeur d'Alene".  She's witty, sarcastic and doesn't refer to her family … (2 comments)

Great Family Fun - Thursday nights in Hayden, Idaho
If you are looking for something to do with your kids on a Thursday night, consider going to Jump-A-Lot, Indoor Party Zone in Hayden.

Gabrielle and I discovered Jump-A-Lot last summer when we were looking for something to do, but wanted to get out of the heat.  We were happy to learn a couple of weeks ago that Thursday night is family night and prices reduce to $3.95 (from the regular $7.00) per hour, per jumper.

Jump-A-Lot can be found at 10260 N. Taryne Street (on the East side … (2 comments)

things to do with kids: Special Olympics 2009 World Winter Games - Coming to Idaho - 12/03/08 05:31 PM

For those of you who may not know, this year's Special Olympic World Games are coming to Idaho this winter.
This is a HUGE honor for the state of Idaho.  The honor, however, will be extended to our very own community.  The Olympic Torch will be passing through Coeur d'Alene January 29th and 30th!

A couple of weeks ago our Kiwanis Club had the privilege of meeting Christine Jarski (VP of Development and Marketing, Special Olympics Idaho) and Kirk Grogan (Global Messenger AND Bronze Medalist for shot put) - see photo below right.
Kirk shared his many experiences with … (3 comments)

things to do with kids: Simple Moments with Family this Holiday Season (& and a Bookworm MeMe) - 11/28/08 01:16 PM
Okay, I have often read about MeMe's here in the Rain, but never actually knew what they were until just recently.  I have been tagged by Michelle Chamberlain, as Fred Chamberlin said, a "wonderful, articulate, experienced, knowledgeable, worldly, sincere, caring, conscientious, capable mortgage broker" in Philadelphia.
So, I'll give it a go.  Here are the rules...
1. Grab the nearest book.2. Open the book to page 56.3. Find the fifth sentence.4. Post the text of the next two to five sentences.5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book or the intellectual one. Pick the CLOSEST.6. Tag five people to … (5 comments)

Holiday Light Show: Lighting the Sky Above Coeur d'Alene

The Coeur d'Alene Resort Holiday Light Show has become a tradition for many families in North Idaho and Eastern Washington.  My family is no exception.
Every year the event, which always falls on the Friday after Thanksgiving, draws more and more people.  Last year the ever popular ABC morning news show Good Morning America featured it as one of the best in the nation.  I couldn't agree more!
Imagine beautiful Coeur d'Alene and downtown Sherman Avenue lit up with over 1.5 million twinkling Christmas lights ..... add Santa ..... add Christmas carolers ..... … (0 comments)

Be Christmas for a Child in Need:Operation Christmas Child

Kevin and I have participated in the shoebox drive for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) for the past 15 years, and have led this worthy event with our church, Lake City Community Church here in Coeur d'Alene, for the past 5 years.
If you're not familiar with OCC, I'll be happy to introduce you:
Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, … (0 comments)

things to do with kids: Holy Halloween, Batman! - 11/03/08 04:53 PM
Holy Halloween, Batman!
Well, they did it again this year!  The Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association pulled it off!
What a great time for family and friends.

The streets were crowded with little girls and boys dressed in their Halloween finest.  You couldn't turn around without knocking elbows with someone you knew with friendly smiles and open arms to greet you.
Ok, that's a lie!  I would guess about 150 screaming kids, pumped up on sugar, running with their frantic parents in tow.  You would try to stop and greet, do the polite thing, you know:
"Nice to see you.""Oh what a … (5 comments)

Another Great Family Day in Eastern Washington:Fall Harvest in Green Bluff
You might have seen my earlier blog post "Harvest Time is Here in Eastern Washington...Great Family Fun!" and, if you haven't had the chance to get to Green Bluff in Eastern Washington, I would encourage you to do so as soon as possible.
We had the official "Garasky Family Outing" today and, I can honestly say, it was one of the best times we have had as a family.  Every year we take the short trip to Green Bluff and it never fails to deliver great family fun.  There was a … (3 comments)

Harvest Time is Here in Eastern Washington...Great Family Fun!
If you have ever had the opportunity to get to Green Bluff in Eastern Washington in the Fall, you are a very fortunate person.  Every year we make a day trip to Green Bluff with friends and family.  We have a great time taking a picnic, at the petting zoos, listening to the live music, playing hide & seek in the corn maze, riding in a horse drawn wagon, you name it.  It may sound a little country, but it's BLAST!  We love to go so much that we can't wait for this … (1 comments)

Coeur d'Alene Public Library Fall Programs begin ... Sept 23 - Nov 11

Besides being one of the most beautiful public buildings I have ever seen (see photos below), the Coeur d'Alene Public Library is an institution of learning and a place for families to grow and come together.
Once every week I take my daughter to the Cd'A Library to participate in one of their numerous children's reading programs.  Since the summer session ended, however, we have been wanting for our "library fix" and have made several trips even though class was not in session.
I am happy to let you know … (0 comments)

"Alice the Musical" at Spokane Children's Theatre, Oct. 11th - 26th
If have children and are anything like me, you find it difficult to just pack up and go to special events at the last minute with and for your children.  Diaper bags, a change (or two, or three) of clothes, snacks, water bottle, favorite blanket, favorite baby doll, you name it.  But, you still want to expose your child(ren) to more than just the TV.
For this reason, Kevin and I are always looking for events and evenings out for our 2 1/2 year old and ourselves.  We make a … (0 comments)
