We ain't down yet. - 05/28/07 11:25 AM
An interesting local story this week got me to thinking about how it relates to us in our business.  Let me share the story.
A local dinner theater closed it's doors  after many years in the business.
The unknowing cast showed up to perform "Evita" but were greeted by a note attached to locked doors. It was also payday so not only did the entire cast learn they would not be paid but were unemployed.  Double ouch!
How did they react?  There in the rain, they performed a glorious and brave final act.  Without benefit of costumes or props they sang, danced and … (77 comments)

Memorial Day...a gentle reminder. - 05/26/07 09:43 PM

The meaning of this 3 day weekend we all so look forward too, seems to be lost.  Memorial Day or Decoration Day as it was once called is only remembered by a few.  It's sad but true.  Had not our Fathers and Grandfathers risked their lives to give us freedom, we would not be enjoying life as we know it today.
Freedom is the very core of our country.  It is what makes America great. Please when you sit down to bar-be-que remember the men who fought and  even died for us.  They believed in Freedom and the importance of standing for … (17 comments)

Membership has its privileges! - 05/25/07 10:40 PM
Membership to Denver Zoo must be the best deal around! Open every day of the year, Denver Zoo is home to an amazing group of creatures one never tires of watching.
Denver Zoo has been at the forefront of conservation and design. In the early 1900's Denver Zoo created the very first naturalistic habitat known as Bear Mountain. The creation was built by creating plaster casts from actual Rocky Mountain hillsides in Morrison, then reconstructed on the Zoo grounds for a bear habitat.
Innovative tradition continues as Denver Zoo prepares to build the Asian Tropics Exhibit. The vision is to bring … (16 comments)

City Lights of Denver - 05/25/07 12:12 AM

Denver, Colorado
The view of city lights from City Park in Denver is nothing less than spectacular. One needs to stand on the 14th tee to grab this shot. I don't suggest you do it during the daytime, otherwise you will risk getting beaned by a golf ball. The mountains weren't so visible tonight but the city lights against the deep blue sky are worthy don't you think?

Nigerian transferee... - 05/22/07 06:48 AM
Relocation is a fun business.  I very much enjoy having the honor of meeting people not just from the U.S.A. but from other parts of the world.
Over the course of my career I have had the pleasure of relocating people from England, Ireland, France, Belgium, South Africa, Germany, Bulgaria, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Greece, Austria (no kangaroos) Australia (kangaroos) and New Zealand.
One country that seems to escape me when it comes to relocation is Nigeria.  The perplexing part is my total inability to convert these leads.  For some reason I get an inordinate amount of relocation requests from this lovely African … (61 comments)

Suggestion for a Sunday Road Trip ~ Denver style - 05/20/07 10:29 PM
Things to do when you live in Denver... Day road trips are easily within reach when you live in the Denver metro area. Sometimes we get so busy working we forget the mountains are just a few short minutes away.
A Visit to Mt. Evans Today we decided to go to Mt. Evans, the majestic peak that can be seen everywhere in the metro area. In fact Mt. Evans can be seen from a hundred miles away or more!
From Denver the trip is about 47 miles to Echo Lake, the entrance to Mt. Evans. We didn't know it at … (20 comments)

It's been an Elk of a day. - 05/19/07 11:55 PM
Have you ever had one of those wacky days when nothing seems to go right?  I don't mean one or two things going wrong I mean a day where your chain is 1/2 a cog off the link.
My day started out great. The weather was perfect, warm and sunny.  I even woke up with plenty of time to get ready for my showings.  Like always I stopped at the computer, check a few emails, answered the best ones and took off for the office.
WITHOUT my phone!!!
Of course I didn't realize at the time I left WITHOUT my phone.  Had I figured … (24 comments)

Colorado Parks Pass means no limit to your fun! - 05/19/07 11:29 PM
On Mother's Day I treated myself to an annual Colorado Parks pass. After years of paying the daily fee, I decided it was time to just invest $55 and get one for myself. Colorado has 43 parks throughout the state. Activities in the parks range from birdwatching to snowmobiling and everything in between.
Here in the Denver metro area we can enjoy boating at either Chatfield or Cherry Creek State park. There are picnic areas, swimming, marinas, horse back riding and trails of all kinds.
My personal favorite is Roxborough State Park, located just south of Chatfield. Nestled up against the foothills of … (11 comments)

Lone Tree's Demographic Pride! - 05/18/07 01:05 PM
Lone Tree, Colorado ~ A Denver 'burb...Hometown pride is important. We all have our reasons and they will be a unique and different as each individual. It's a healthy thing to feel good about the town one lives in.
Lone Tree is my home town. I like the community's convenient location to I-25 and E-470. In my business being able to hop on a freeway and be someplace else is important.
I am also impressed by the way the community is growing. There is a plan. We have a Mayor and council. We have our own great police force. We have a … (1 comments)

Work with me here people~ - 05/18/07 12:32 PM
Sometimes I wonder why homeowners bother to put their homes on the market.  It seems more and more I show homes that are just not ready to be viewed.
Homeowners, as buyer's agents, we need your help here.  We aren't miracle workers, our buyers do not have the same feelings for your home as you do. They won't overlook the cobwebs on the light fixtures and the ring around the tub.  They have no fondness for Jr's Cheerios that crunch beneath our feet in the kitchen.
Buyers as brilliant as they are have no vision. Or rather should I say they don't want … (21 comments)

Time to sign the Kids up for Camp... - 05/18/07 11:44 AM
The lazy days of summer will soon be upon us. If you remember summer being endless like I do you will probably want to enroll the kids in some sort of activity to broaden their horizons and get them off the coach. Denver and the metro area have a nice assortment of camps for kids. Here is a brief list of some.

Trunk Tales - 05/16/07 02:41 PM
Remember the show "Let's Make a Deal?"  Monty Hall was the emcee and he would roam through the audience asking ladies for strange or abstract things they might find in their purse.  The gals would wildly rummage through their purse and pull out the requested item, for this public humiliation they would get the chance to bet on something and maybe get lucky and take home a car.
Well I've never met Monty Hall nor have I been lucky enough to play on a game show. But I do know one thing for sure when people come to me to buy or … (57 comments)

Delete ~ Do I Dare? - 05/14/07 12:57 AM

Active Rain is always planting new additions into the program.   Sometimes I look down and see something I've never seen before.  It makes me wonder if it just arrived or has it been there for weeks, maybe months on end without me ever noticing.
Well tonight I noticed the "Delete all messages" link just above on My Home page.  You know the location, for me it's a huge temptation.  You see it seems no matter how hard I try I can't keep up.  Last week Margaret Rome blogged about not getting a Gold Star because it would just make her … (75 comments)

How High Will It Go? - 05/12/07 11:56 PM
Colorado Gas Prices are climbing...What do your prices look like?
The price of gas continues to climb. Each time I go to the pump, I try NOT to look. When I get my monthly bill I wonder how young folks and people on fixed incomes are paying for their gas.
Actually I wonder how and why I want to continue paying for my gas! What does the future have in store for us. Are we going to end up driving less, trading our cars in for push bikes?
My business is based on customer service. Like most Realtors I am not on … (34 comments)

Denver Adventures for Flat Jonathan - 05/07/07 07:49 PM
Sunday was a low energy day for Flat Jonathan, Larry and kk.  After The Road Trip from Albuquerque, the three of us decided to take a low key tour of our office.  Afterwards we took in a few Denver sites.
Flat Jon wanted to sit on the step of the Colorado Capitol that is exactly One Mile High.  On the way there we enjoyed the lovely sunny day...finally.

I must say Flat Jonathan has been a wonderful guest. He is always happy with a smile on his face.  I did note however after a few hours of sight-seeing he began to … (17 comments)

Adventures on the Road with Flat Jonathan - 05/06/07 08:09 AM
As yesterday's adventure was shared with the Rainers, some questions have come up.  First question is that of Why is Flat Jonathan with me, instead of flying to Kansas City?  Well, as you already know, FJ took a detour to promote Active Rain to the Cyber Professionals at their annual Spring meeting, held this year in New Mexico.  Once there Flat Jonathan had many options.  He could have ended the trip and flew directly to Kansas City, but heard there was a tornado there.  Having watched Dorothy and Toto at least 10,000 times as a child. Flat Jonathan has a fear … (19 comments)

Flat Jonathan is made an Honorary Cyber Professional! - 05/06/07 12:48 AM
Our friend Flat Jonathan came to Albuquerque with Sharon and Tami Simms this week.  He was anxious to go because so many Active Rain members were there.  And like a good Rainmaker, Flat Jonathan saw a great opportunity to network and perhaps convince a few more new folks to join Active Rain.
Jonathan had a lot of adventures in New Mexico.  His trip is best explained in this quick slide show.  Enjoy!

Desert Delight in Albuquerque - 05/02/07 10:58 PM
Tonight was the reception for the beginning of the Cyber Professionals meeting in Albuquerque.  Among the 30 some Cyber pros are a few noted Active Rainers.  I was delighted to meet for the very first time, in person (drum roll please...) Linda Davis, Teri Isner, Sharon Simms and her lovely daughter Tammy.  It is rumored the my two favorite men are on their way Angus from Naperville and Ed DeChristopher.  They I've meet before but still I look forward to seeing them again.
Flat Jonathan must have been tuckered out, he didn't make an appearance.  I suspect Sharon packed him away, plane … (17 comments)

Scriptless No More! - 05/02/07 02:42 PM
In the war against telemarketers it is important to always be prepared. They take classes and learn how to sell their wares, but what do we do? Is there a class for responding to their slick presentations designed to trap us into buying something we don't need? Of course not. Nothing we have been taught in school prepares us for the barrage of ringing telemarketers. They are relentless and hard to avoid.
We need to organize and fight back. My solution is simple, let's band together and collect a prime selection of responses. Maybe if enough of us make their jobs … (24 comments)

Denver Real Estate & Relocation - 05/01/07 11:01 PM
Relocation to a new area is both exciting and frightening at the same time. Homeowners have so many details to work through on both sides of the move. Many times people plan out their move, without consulting others. They think it through and figure that is the way to do it. Whether their plan is right or wrong depends on many factors. Usually it is best to talk the plan out with professionals who deal with relocation situations on a daily basis.
That is where Realtors come in. Not only do we work with tranferees frequently, but we hear about their problems … (6 comments)
