active rain: Social Media Leads Me to Active Rain HQ - 02/07/10 10:47 PM
This past week I accompanied my daughter to Seattle.  Vali was attending a Partners for Smart Growth conference and I was along for the  trip.  Seattle is one on my favorite cities.  I’ve never had enough time to explore it in the past, so this was a nice opportunity to do so.
As I toured the city, I continued to play Four Square, the fun in real life game.  If you don’t know about Four Square, it is a geo-based, social networking game where the players check-in to venues, get point, leave relevant comments and sometimes connect.  In cities where Four … (63 comments)

active rain: Active Rain Party ~ Photo Show Direct From Orlando - 11/10/08 06:20 AM
Always fun, never boring Active Rain hosted a very nice get-to-gether at the Hard Rock Cafe in Universal City. Members from far and near gathered to renew online friendships so dear to us all.
There's nothing more fun than meeting up with real live persons! I am always amazed at how the "real thing" is always ever better face to face! Over the past 2 plus years I have made some wonderful, lifelong friends thanks to Active Rain. Talking to others, I know I'm not the only one.
The best news yet? We've only just begun!
Hope you enjoy my little … (75 comments)

active rain: Delete ~ Do I Dare? - 05/14/07 12:57 AM

Active Rain is always planting new additions into the program.   Sometimes I look down and see something I've never seen before.  It makes me wonder if it just arrived or has it been there for weeks, maybe months on end without me ever noticing.
Well tonight I noticed the "Delete all messages" link just above on My Home page.  You know the location, for me it's a huge temptation.  You see it seems no matter how hard I try I can't keep up.  Last week Margaret Rome blogged about not getting a Gold Star because it would just make her … (75 comments)

active rain: On Leaving Lurkdom ~ 10 Good Reasons! - 04/15/07 02:00 AM
Social Networks have been around for many years.  Online social networks are making a big splash now that they come out of the middle school population and into the mainstream. The Active Rain Network is an amalgamation of blogging, social networking and viral marketing.  The combination of all empowers users on so many levels.  Addiction to the rain has become common place; many of us have been to the Betty Ford Center and will probably go back.  I don't know what it is about Active Rain, but one day my family will have to pry my cold, dead hands off the … (47 comments)

active rain: Active Rain Hill Climb...time to draft - 01/24/07 12:40 PM

Active Rain Hill Climb
In July of '06 I discovered Active Rain via the invite of Bonnie Cox.  Almost from the moment I signed on, it's been a thrill.  The first weekend in The Rain was a weird rainy one in Colorado, it must have been a sign of some sort.  The rain in my state kept me inside discovering a new Rain of sorts.
The Rain I discovered was soon to become an addiction.  It was a blast to do something and be rewarded with  points.  Soon I was in a race with the few persons in my state...most of whom … (65 comments)

active rain: The Internet is a Fad...blogging doesn't work. - 11/28/06 10:12 AM
What is all the buzz about blogging?
It is a silly useless method of wasting time.  Realtors are currently taking up blogging on a daily basis. They sit in front of their computers when they should be out listing and selling houses.  They should be out knocking on cold doors and passing out key chains, calendars, refrigerator magnets and other useless trinkets with their photos on them.
Blogging?  What's the point?  People don't read blogs.  Buyers and sellers go directly to the grocery store to pick up a magazine when they want to buy or sell a house.  Realtors why are you not … (48 comments)

active rain: Blogging...going pro? - 11/22/06 11:24 PM
Active Rain has been training some interesting and prolific bloggers.  Some will be interested to know that blogging has become a way of life for some folks...not here on AR, but on The Outside.
I've heard of professional bloggers before, even met one once. Dave Taylor who lives in Boulder was at a class I took on blogging a few years ago. Dave has several blogs and is a very smart guy.  One of his blogs answers questions about popular IT topics or things like online games, etc.  I don't know enough about that topic to talk about it, but if you … (31 comments)

active rain: Who is your audience? - 10/11/06 10:58 PM
Blogging is much easier when you know who your audience is.  Who is listening to you?  Who do you want to listen to you?
When I get to writing, I often think of a situation  I need to speak to.  Solving a problem for someone is simple when I know what the problem is.  The same holds true for writing a blog, if I know what my point is, I can address it.
Who is your audience?  Are you playing to the Realtor crowd?  Looking to make a name for yourself in your area? Are you an affiliate in the community...who is … (11 comments)

active rain: Tribal Knowledge from The Rain - 09/29/06 05:27 PM

This is my bicentennial post!
Active Rain is a cyber tribe, a group of extraneous people from all over North America who have come together for what ever reasons.  Here we have found friendship, knowledge and joy in box chatting! I am proud to be a tribe member.
Over the past 82 days, I have been guilty of writing 200 posts, either good, bad or ugly on this wonderful community called Active Rain.  The ride has and will continue to be fun.  I love being part of history, although we don't think of it like that, it is.  Someday our great-grand kids will log … (14 comments)

active rain: Getting started on the Active Rain Community - 09/27/06 11:18 PM
Here is a basic primer for Newcomers to Active Rain (with special recognition to the members of the Mile High Chapter of WCR!)
As you participate in the network, you receive points for your contributions.  The various ways you get points are:
Filling out your bio Add a detailed description about your business and what you do. (You will see later this description shows up under your Name on your Active Rain Blog.) Add more information about whatever you wish in two more sections (be sure to modify the title to fit your needs) If you have nice testimonials from customers, be sure  to add … (24 comments)

active rain: Think About the Future... ADD VALUE. - 09/21/06 06:40 AM
Real estate blogging on Active Rain has become a way of life for many.  Others are just joining and are questioning our little social community.   As we come together we all need to recognize the importance of our blogs and how it affects our future.
The blogs are getting indexed by the search engines.  By this I mean what we say is being stored for future reference to the world.  Is this important?  You bet it is.
Blogging may feel like play at times, but in reality we are opening our minds and exposing our thoughts to the digital world.  As Active … (61 comments)

Membership has topped the 5000 mark.  I am curious...where are all the bloggers?

Don't be content to dwell in the dark crevices … (21 comments)

active rain: Intimidated by Technology? You're on AR...jump in! - 09/09/06 12:22 PM
Learning Real Estate Technology
Everyday I get to talk to real estate agents who are reluctant to use technology. I'm taking about all sorts of technology.  I know that means different things to different people, but the sake of this blog I'm discussing technology for real estate agents.
When it comes to learning something new, the only way you will be able to do that is to try.  If you fail, keep trying. Go find a mentor, tutor or take a class.  It is really up to you to learn.  Learning can be fun and very rewarding.
If you are serious … (9 comments)

active rain: Notice to New Members - 09/04/06 10:14 AM
If you are new to the Network and are looking at the point system, don't despair.  One of the amazing features about this wonderful Network is the point system. There are so many ways to gain points.  If you investigate, you will find a way that is right for you.
Most of us have not been around for very long.  So if you are thinking it took years and years to advance in our areas of service, think again.  My two month anniversary is coming up on September 9th.  Others in the system have recently come on board to find they are … (13 comments)

active rain: Business Blog Consulting blogs Denver Realtor - 09/04/06 09:41 AM
My Google Alert results for today indicated someone was blogging about me:

Scrolling down the page to "Realtors Turn To Blogging For Sales" Jim Turner has an interesting piece about Realtors spending more of their advertising budgets for Online Marketing...Blogs actually!

active rain: To Stand Still is to be left behind - 08/26/06 11:46 PM
Blogging on Active Rain is an addiction.  To keep up, you must be consistent and continually blog, comment, think and try to be creative.  Not everyone has the time or energy to do this, besides we are supposed to have other things to do, like list and sell real estate!
Going back to the earlier pages of Active Rain, I see the names of former Rainers that no longer frequent the network.  Why is that?  Did they burn out early, lose interest or run out of things to say?
I'm wondering who's next...will it be me?  Or you?  Can we all keep up … (11 comments)
