I referred an old family friend to a hotdog Realtor in an area that I lived almost my whole life until I found the sunny skies of Southerna California.  This agent has a big team and coming from that area, he was the listing agent on a house I personally bought before I was an agent.   My ex-husband and I still get his newsletters after 16 years.  Here's a good case of adopt the buyer on your listings.  That has impressed me and I've sent him referrals that he doesn't know I sent him over the years.

  Anyway, this time I did the proper paperwork, sent up the referral contract and called my friend and told her who the agent was and that they would be contacting her to list her house.

 That was April.  The property sold in September.  I knew the property was in escrow, I called the family friend to follow up and learned that the property had sold several weeks ago.  However, the referral check didn't show up.

 I called the agent's office and identified myself and indicated that I had referred so and so to them and that I learned that the property had closed several weeks ago and I had not received the referral check. Was it lost in the mail?  The person who answered the phone acted mystified as to who I was and said, "can you send us a copy of the contract?" So I did.  I scanned the contract and emailed it to the "listing manager" as requested.  No response back nor an acknowledgement that they received it.

 The next day, I emailed this "listing manager" and copied the hot dog head guy and requested their acknowledgement of my email and referral agreement.  I received a response back indicating they had received my referral agreement, sorry for the misunderstanding and that they would pay my referral fee when they closed their next transaction.

 What do you all think?  I think these are my choices:

Part of me thinks I just take a stress pill and wait for the referral fee to come in when they close their next transaction, part of me thinks that the head guy owes me a phone call and then I would feel better about waiting for my check because I like to think I'm reasonable.  The last part of me thinks that they should send me my referral fee now as they've been paid on the transaction, it's not my fault they lost my referral agreement, and they need to pay up like they agreed.

One thing is for certain.  I know alot of people in the area where I sent this referral and there are going to be alot more referrals for someone.  I don't think I'll be sending them to this particular agent since he has not acknowledged my existence since I sent him this referral and I don't think he or his team are professional. 

If you send me your Southern California referrals, I will take excellent care of your referrals, pay you your referral fee when I get paid and I will call you to update you on the status of your referral and thank you for your efforts.
