HAWS RECEIVES YOUTH HUMANE EDUCATION GRANTPosted by Nichole Janny on Oct. 14, 2015 Build-A-Bear Workshop and the Petfinder Foundation have awarded HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, with a Youth Humane Education Grant valued at more than $10,000!
The grant, made possible by Build-A-Bear Workshop and the Build-A-Bear Workshop Foundation, is given to organizations that hold firm in the belief of the importance of educating and inspiring the next generation to care for and love pets at an early age. The overall goal of HAWS’ active education department is to inspire awareness and compassion for all living things; the department is dedicated to offering (6 comments)

Our 6-week class for puppies aged 8-16 weeks uses the Playground of Higher Learning to provide a unique learning experience for pups and owners alike. The majority of the class is taught off-leash. HAWS Shelter seeks help in cat hoarding cases By JCPG Staff March 20, 2013 | (0) Comments Fifty cats from one owner, most of them sick and suffering were recently brought to HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County. The shelter is asking for the community’s help, and for residents to take action to prevent further occurrences of animal hoarding. When is “many” considered too many? Animal hoarding, as defined in this circumstance, is when an owner/caretaker has more pets than they are able to care for properly. HAWS' SPAY & NEUTER INITIATIVE PROGRAM (SNIP) HAWS' SNIP clinic provides spay/neuter procedures for animals at HAWS, animals adopted from HAWS and animals belonging to breed-placement groups. Since May 2003, HAWS has also offered spay/neuter procedures for pet owners who are struggling financially. Spay/neuter surgery carries a one-time cost that is relatively small compared to the long-term benefits. Along with helping curb pet overpopulation, spay/neuter surgery allows pets to live longer, healthier lives. It also makes them less likely to spray and/or marking territoryand eliminates heat cycles.
